Alright, this story has quickly overtaken most of my favourite stories for the favourite story of Cocktails!aftermath, ever.

I just can't get over the idea of this, of these four confused, dazed, stupid people, standing near the house, yelling and punching and glaring [there was a lot of glaring, hmm.].

Characterisations are perfect; Pam, because the way she deflects the question entirely is unbelievably her, and how she says Jim and he can tell she means we need to talk; Roy, because he's an idiot; Jim, because I could see where what he was feeling was coming from, all that anger at Pam, at Karen, at himself, at Roy, and angry!Jim punching Roy? That was niiiceee. And I loved him saying I'm not sorry. And Karen, damn, she has no clue what she's getting into, and though I want her to leave right now...I also love how you've got her across as such a no-nonsense character, but she's stuck in one of the most nonsensical, messiest things in ages

Actually I loved all of Jim's thoughts, mind-racing - the had or has he was so troubled about gets across nicely, how none of it matters if Pam refuses to acknowledge it, and
Jim isn’t entirely convinced that she hasn’t been replaced with an incredibly life-like plastic replica when he wasn’t looking. is only the second-best line after:

He left his brother on my car, because that is such a Jim!thing to do, trying to break the tension. [And I loved how you described how Pam looks at him after that.]

Roy out of the way, Karen now. I'm interested to see where this one goes, because Karen is, like I said, no-nonsense, not complete nonsense like Roy's been.

Loved this so much I'm going to read it again. WOO!

Author's Response:

Wow wow WOW! Thank you so much!

I am completely honored to be your fav post-Cocktails, because there are a lot of them out there and I love them all. I love the way you sum this fic up--four people in this chaotic, crazy situation, all being idiots. LOL, yes there's a lot of glaring. Sometimes I find myself looking up synonyms for "glare" too often.

You are so right about Karen. I'm going to write at least the start of chapter five from her POV, because she's got to be on thought overload right now and I want everyone to know what she's going through. Dealing with Karen will definitely be very different from dealing with Roy. Oh yes :-)

Coolest part of your review (besides the fact that your two favorite lines are my two favorite lines)-- the very sneaky use of italics in the word "unbelievably." Heh. Very nice. And yay for rereading! Rock ON! You... are a hero!

I have a week of tests that take up a large percentage of our final year results, too, so actually even if you don't update so soon, I wouldn't be jumping in my seat or threatening to spam you because I'm pretty sure I know what you're going through. :P

I love this so much! You've got Pam down, every inch of her [I'm sure there's a TWSS in there somewhere] - I loved her thought process, because along with knowing what she's thinking of the situation and what happened in May, we've also got some good thoughts in there about Jim in general and there are, surely, some SQUEE!moments in there. ;) I loved her story about the roller coaster, how that relates to the dizziness after the ride is over - brilliant.

Also, I loved anything to do with the tea, because Jim being that amazing guy that Pam was stupid enough to let leave, despite the bruise and the unresolved tension, is completely in-character, and so much like the S2!Jim that I miss terribly. And I loved how he didn't have the tea and that completely dissolved all that tension.

I loved him pressing her a little against the counter, because I'm sorry, but that's just hot. :P And I loved she knows that he's aware of what he's doing to her, because wowee.

I've loved this entire story so far and I'm convinced I'm going to love the rest, so whatever you do I'm probably going to end up loving this story to bits. ;) I can't wait for an update!! [ - when it comes, that is.]

Author's Response:

You are like the best reviewer! I'm glad that you like my depiction of Pam's thoughts. I have a ridiculous amount of sympathy for her, although I'm nothing like her. I feel the need to justify her inaction, you know? And Jim, as much of a jerk he's been sometimes this season, still has some of S2 Jim in him, so the tea thing just felt right.

And finally, I'm so glad that the counter scene worked, because I can never tell if I'm writing UST well. Thank you so much for the detailed review!

Oh my goodness, the thought that Jim and Dwight were buddy-buddy and Jim had respect for Dwight [y'know, back when he didn't know him so well =P] and - okay, everything, everything of this story made me laugh so hard it's not funny anymore.

OK, it is, but still.

I loved how the relationship progesses [or rather, doesn't], the way the SellingSkillz of either person changes, too, and how everything changed, really - but some things stay the same, the Michael and the Pam and the DwightintheCarRocking-thing - all that. And the Jell-O was genius!

Brilliant fic, and I loved basically every minute I spent reading it. Thanks for posting this!

I have never been to Expedia before and now need to rectify that immediately.

A little close to tears, near the center, because I was dead, dead scared that Pam would want Jim and Karen to be happy [you know, basically, Pam would be stupid] because I know that you wouldn't mind doing that, considering that little piece you posted between your two chapters of Like a Light House - but when she says it, even after he says And I'm going to ask Karen to marry me [I was very close to getting up and doing productive work again, can you believe that?] I let out this long sigh of relief - I know this is fanfiction, but some kinds of fanfiction are so brilliant they pull you in even if you don't want them to - this is one of them.

Of course, loved how this was written, as usual; the shadows at the beginning and at the end [their shadows vanish is lovely: they're beginning to lose that darkness they've had around them for so long] and the all-face kiss gave me goosebumps just imagining it - you can't fall out of love with someone like Pam so easily, and I'm glad, I love that Jim realises.

Brilliant stuff, as always, unfold. Even with the angst this is one of my favourites of yours.

It's like de'ja vu, but better...or worse, depending on how you look at it.

Yes, confusing, but only slightly. ;) Maybe that makes you not feel good, because you wanted it confusing, but don't, seriously, because I liked this, a lot.

"Because I need to hear it." I loved that, because I always thought that Jim saying he needed her to hear it made it seem like he knew both of them needed to know, for sure. If that made sense. And I love that you got that across.

And all she had to say was I'm not going to marry him and all this freaking angst could be avoided. DAMN. I can't hate the writers, though.

A bit of optimism on a dark dreary morning, so thank you!

This is so entertaining I don't know where to start. Mr. Wonderful, bloody hell, Squirrel_McPants, EHEH; original in this fandom, most definitely, and there are a lot of possibilities, so...wow, I'm going to love this story. Forgive me for going slightly very Kelly but I cannot waiiittt for an update!!

Another thing I love about this story? I haven't been able to shake the urge that Pam is lonely. And friends to be able to talk it out with, even if they're online, would do her a lot of good.

Also, the nightmare Jim had of Karen and Pam yelling at him? Perfect. =P He needs to get a bunch more insults before he starts getting those compliments and stuff, so.

Can't wait for even more. :D

Author's Response: Moofoot - you are SO right about Pam being lonely.  That's why I think we see (and will see) her being so much more FNB online; she shines in a warm, friendly atmosphere. Another reason it's good for Jim to see her there.  Thanks for reading and taking the time to comment!!!

Another reason to love this story - I can hate Karen pretty easily without feeling guilty. =P I know, it makes me sound awful.

Anyway, God, Karen.

I loved how Jim went Back off, lover boy, in his head - that was priceless.

And the way he was trying to get Pam to talk. And DadFilipelli? Wow.

You're awesome; you know that, right?

Author's Response: I wish I were as awesome as Pam, but I'll take what I can get.  Yes, Jim is jealous of a man who doesn't even know who Pam IS, much less WHERE she is.  Yeah, Jim's seriously in love.  ;)  Thanks so much for reading and reviewing - it helps so much to know I'm getting this right!

Oh, Karen. If she fell off a cliff it would be rather nice, actually. Broke a few bones, did something to her neck...

Unbelievable - but I guess it's to your credit if I can still believe Karen doing something like this even if she doesn't do things like this on the show [at least, not in front of everyone].

I am going to love seeing what you do with bitch!Karen in the office, though, and seeing Jim try to interact with someone he knows he's been IMing, but she doesn't - ooh, this is going to be delicious.

Holy sasquatch, does Pam know what she's doing? Does Jim know what they're doing? JUST HOW MUCH OF A GENIUS IS VEXIN!?

and why do you want to agonise us so?!?

Unbelievable. I'm loving where this is going. I can't wait to see what photo he sends her, to see whether he asks Vexin anything, and, more long-term, see just how long Jim is going to stay like that before he tells her. So much longer by now, at least, I'm sure.

Also, can I say how much I love that Pam is crushing on McPants, clearly Jim, because it shows how much she loves Jim? Oh, true love. *feels cheesy*

Reviewer: moofoot Signed

HOLYCRAP. I was not expecting that.  I was going to have a nice eloquent review talking about the conversation and Jim's reaction to the asparagus and then you bring in that last thing in the conversation and I haven't stopped staring at that for the last fifteen minutes. I'm still looking at that and not this review so if there're spelling mistakes it's not fault, it's entirely yours.

you can't leave us like this!!! it was worth the wait, and I'm sure the next chapter will be beyond worth the wait, but I don't WANT to wait! You see how that works? because I need to know how Pam reacts and how Jim reacts and what Pam does and what Jim does and then what happens next and whether she gets pissed at him because I don't want her getting irritated with him because they're taking long enough as it is and at least Jim decided to try to do something about it. even if it was the wrong way to do something about it.

OK, I'm going nowhere rambling like this.

Well, love where this one's going; I mean, three paragraphs in I knew I was going to love this. I love the strength of Pam's character, here; and I adore the painting she's painted for Michael, because I love that it's Pam, Jim, sometimes Jan, who really get him, who genuinely like him, and Pam's painting something for him.

I liked the mention of Toby, too. How it seemed like he was a little too nice, and how she was a little relieved when he left, and how he went Oh man, he is really going to love that, because that's a pretty Toby!statement, and I don't know whether he means that [with some grudging liking for Michael] or if that was laced with snark, but still.

And though I felt unbelievably bad for Karen, I was thinking yeah, leave. =P I liked her little tangent, though, because that is all so true - except I think I would've left earlier in that relationship.

There were no Fillipellis in sight.? Seriously? That's how you're going to end the chapter? EEP. Get a move on, brokenloon, because I know I'm going to love the next chapter as much as I loved this one!

Author's Response: Thanks so much for the comments.  I adore Pam and have enjoyed writing about her getting to a stronger place.  I'm hard at work and hope to have more later today.

Oh, so sad. I hate it when you guys make me feel awful for Karen, but I keep clicking on this darned things anyway, and I feel awful for her. Brilliant.

So many things I loved about this, though. Mostly I loved the few sentences put together that pack a killer punch, in every single one of those five 'times'.

For some reason her hand still stung from that high five. from that first one, even though she's ranting about getting a fucking high five from him. she shot Jim a smile, and her stomach dropped when he looked away., because imagining that made my heart twitch. I loved how in the third one you brought out the fact that she has curls in her hair, drawing that comparison to Pam, somehow, in this freaky, subtle way. I don't know if that was intentional, but...wow. Seriously. Wow.

Loved the fourth one; why Pam was sorry. I'm kind of certain Pam didn't mean it that way, but the way you got Karen taking it that way is brilliant. So true, so sad, but so brilliant.

And the impact of the last few sentences of this story?! Damn.

"Turn right, Halpert," she whispered, "turn right and go home."

After a moment the little car started to move. He turned left.

Karen sank down to the floor and covered her eyes.
Oh, goodness, I loved that. So good. So good. Freaking amazing.

Anyway, I still want Karen to leave, but you guys aren't making me feel so good about it. I need some KarenisaBitchfiction.

Author's Response:

I sure Pam didn't put that much meaning in her "sorry" either, but for some reason I imagine it really staying with Karen, since she had just spent five nights over-analyzing every look Jim and Pam had given each other.

Thank for all your kind comments.
