Bio:

Wife, mother (of children, not dragons, generally). Hopeless romantic, massive JAM shipper.

Also present on FanFiction.Net under the same name, where I wrote a fair number of stories for Bones, which for over ten years was the TV love of my life. Until now.

I’m still fairly new to The (US) Office, but as a Brit, I was really into the UK version and wasn’t too sure about this upstart US reboot, even with Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant’s input. I’d seen a few episodes over the years, knew vaguely about the Jim/Pam storyline and that there was chemistry, but not really clicked on how good it was, and as for the rest, the little I’d seen? Well, Craig Robinson is Doug Judy in B99 to me, Rashida Jones - Ann Perkins in Parks and Rec; and I didn’t even know that Ellie Kemper and Ed Helms had been in it for several seasons, let alone James Spader and CATHERINE TATE?!  Then I binge-watched it all the way through early in UK lockdown in Spring  2020 and suddenly it all clicked, and I fell hard for JAM. Really hard.

I’ve now watched some episodes several times, but I’m following via the Office Ladies podcast, so I’m really getting into the detail of the show itself as well as the love story.

In real life I have my own Jim (although his name isn’t Jim and he doesn’t work in paper, but he is lovely), two teenagers, a naughty Beagle and a cheeky Jack Russell. I work in the IT Industry.

Simply lovely.

Author's Response: d84;a039;

Summary:

"He doesn’t want to be presumptuous but all he’s been thinking about for the past twelve minutes as the car sped away from the restaurant is how much he wants to kiss her again; how much he wants to keep on kissing her until he either dies from happiness or wakes up."

My (canon-compliant) take on Pam and Jim's romantic journey, beginning with their first date. Includes flashbacks.

I loved this. The flashback, the wedding night. All so beautifully written. You also captured the moment that the being we now know to be Cece kicked in a well observed moment.

JK had flu and didn’t want to pass it on to JF. Is that right? Says a lot of about their friendship and his thoughtfulness, very sweet. They still managed to make it look ridiculously cute.

I love this. You’re putting lots of great detail in that fixes some of the things I was always sad and frustrated about. I love that they are having those conversations.

Awww. Grilled Cheese is Pam’s Italian food. Gave me the feels!

Well done Max and co. for getting Darjeeling to do this/these - nice work!

I should also mention less of a grilled cheese recipe (although I love a good bacon, Brie and cranberry combo myself) and more a sweet anecdote about my late Grandma and (sadly also now late) Dad.

Grandma made my dad (her son-in-law, they got on very well though) an open-faced grilled (broiled for you US folks) cheese on toast. When my dad went to eat it, he realised the bread was only toasted on one side.

“Why is the bread only toasted on one side?” he asked my Grandma in confusion.

“Don’t be silly,” she said, “If I’d have turned the bread over the cheese would have fallen off.”

True story.

Author's Response: Okay, that story is lovely, and thank you for sharing it with me.

I really liked the way you wrote this, very much in keeping with how that would have played out in a real episode. A joy to read!

This was so incredibly good, totally played out like a real episode in my head. I love Mom Detectives too, I hope they do something with it once they finish the rewatches towards the end of next year.

Author's Response: Thank you! And they absolutely should. Get Hollywood on the phone, dammit.

Reading this at 5am because I woke up and couldn’t get back to sleep. Just blown away by it. This was just about the most perfect thing I’ve read on this site. Absolutely beautiful.

Author's Response: Ugh. I'm sorry you're not sleeping well, friend. But I'm really glad I was able to help see you through to the dawn. You are FAR too kind. Thank you.

"Shut up! We didn't film ourselves!"

I think it was more gentle coercion by an appreciative support group. You know you wanted to really ;)

Can I just say this could be the dirtiest thing I've read in this fandom? :D And one of the best. I really am here for the romance of it, the way you write is like if they put the Office on HBO. Just brilliant.

Summary:

Jim missing Cece's recital is what makes Pam realize she's falling back into her old ways. She's accepting things she doesn't want to accept and not standing up for herself like she should. She decides she needs to find herself again before her and Jim can be happy.

This is an extremely satisfying chapter. I’m glad Pam stuck to her guns.

Summary: Convinced they'll be different than any other friends who have tried and failed, Jim and Pam upgrade their friendship to add a few benefits. No really, it'll be fine.

Set during the summer between seasons 2 and 3 this will be canon divergent in that Katy and more importantly, Casino Night never happened.

Well, that was rather timely after my nagging 2nd review! This pleased me no end. :)

This is just brilliant, we know there are deep seated feelings in there on both sides, but I can't remember many stories where they do the whole "Friends with Benefits" thing at this point in time (and having been here about a year I've trawled through the stories, especially all the juicer ones *cough*.)

Looking forward to more, especially seeing how you keep the tension going as we all know they both want a lot more than a roll between the sheets together.

This. Seriously, this fills such an important time period and yet has barely ever been explored. You’ve absolutely nailed it. You’ve captured S9 Pam brilliantly,

One small thing though, I was more of a Pete fan, Clark was disrespectful and didn’t deserve Jim’s desk, always narked me when he said that he “fought for that desk.” I absolutely loved Dwight when he did that.

Author's Response:

Very much appreciate it!  There was so much of S9 left unexplored that it pretty much gave me whiplash (on top of me not being a fan of the storyline) so I wanted to offer why Pam was so desperate to keep him in DM even after finding out there was nothing holding them back anymore.

Also, Clark *was* in the wrong for not giving up the desk.  I guess I sympathize because he's the only career-focused one in that entire place except for Jim, and even then he stops after "Livin' the Dream" LOL

Thanks for the review!
