NOW COMPLETE!!!

"Jim, why don't you tell Pam how you really feel?"

Jim and Pam deal with the stuff that comes with being on a hit show...talk shows, radio call-ins, and press junkets. They say there's no such thing as bad publicity, but is that really the case? Watch as Jim and Pam deal with being in the public eye and under the thumb of manipulative network producers. The story is told through interviews, transcripts, web pages and photos.

Mel, I'm totally digging the way you're setting up this story's version of Casino Night! It sounds like things will get very interesting indeed.

I too enjoy the way you had Jim turn the tables on the interviewer. Well played, and as always, I look forward to more!

Author's Response: Thanks so much! Things will get very interesting indeed! I'm working on the next chapter now.  I'm also glad to see that you mentioned that you liked Jim turning the tables. I was worried that I writing him as "too distant" in his dealings with Abby and I wanted to soften that a bit. As always, it's great to get a review from you.

Loved this, Mel. I especially dug the whole Cinderella string you tugged through this chapter. It ties things together, highlights Pam's thoughts at the moment and in general regarding the reality tv manipulation, and sets up what's to come nicely. I love their whole fake conversation/imitation of the women talking about them at the bar. It went to an interesting place, and that's always fun with these two!

I can't WAIT to see how Pam's plan unfolds. Good times ahead, I'd wager!

Author's Response: Catie--As always, I'm so glad to see a review from an author who's writing I admire. I'm relieved to know that the Cindarella thread didn't come across as contrived or forced. Thanks again for all of your comments and support!

^^CAN'T WAIT!

I love this, I really do. You've captured how stuck Jim must really feel so nicely. This is so much fun!!!

Author's Response: Hee. I'm so glad that you like this and that you're having fun with it.  And yeah...that Leno show is going to be a mess. Thanks for your review.

Ah, Mel. This story shines like a bright white light in a sea of...off-white lights? You know what I mean.

I believe this is the first story of yours that I've been around for the start of. It's an awesome ride so far, my friend, and I can't wait to see what comes.

Of course, I must point out that the last scene broke my heart a little bit, but in a good way, if that makes sense. You've managed to dissect the phenomenon of reality TV while simultaneously tugging on my heart strings. You've kept Jim and Pam real and easy to relate to, and I appreciate that.

Sometimes it's easy to forget that how completely invasive it must be to have your entire life documented. Thankfully you're here to remind us!!

Author's Response:

Awwww....thanks so much. You know, I was looking at my outline (which is essentially just a bunch of scribbling) and there is a lot of heartbreak potential there. I'm glad you think it's the good kind.

Thanks so much for your review!

Mel! This is so great! From the show to Jim comforting Pam to the flowers "sent" from Roy--just awesome!

I cannot wait for the sports show! Jim and Roy interviewed together? Yes!

Author's Response:

Catie—It’s always great to hear from you and I’m so pleased you enjoyed this chapter. Thanks so much for reviewing.

TWO UPDATES IN ONE DAY!?!!!!!!!!! Heck yeah!

All I can say is:

Well, you know what ultimately happened. Most of America knows what ultimately happened. Leno…Perez Hilton…the press junket in New York City…the Today Show…it was like a train going off its tracks and though I did my best to keep things under control, there was only so much I could do.

!!!!!!!!!!!!

And:

I also felt that pushing them like that would force them to bottle things up and possibly explode at a time when we couldn’t control it. Little did I know.

!!!!!!!!!!

What do you have up your sleeve? You are so ridiculously good at this, seriously! How do you do it?!

Author's Response:

I don’t know that I’m doing anything special, but I am having a blast writing this one. I’m so glad that you are enjoying it.

This just ridiculously good and entertaining and well though out!

And this little bit just made me melt and made me want to stab Roy for his timing and made me want to threaten you with anything I can think of until you update again:

“Ugh. So I guess someone will read it. Anyway…I…um…I appreciate what you said, Pam. Maybe I can return the favor sometime…like when you’re featured as Scranton’s most beautiful bride or something.” It was just a throwaway comment, an attempt to show that it was no big deal to shower compliments on each other…especially if the cameras were catching this conversation, but she started to turn the most delicate shade of pink. Before he could tease her, or explain away his words or before the tips of her ears could continue to turn a bright red, the office doors opened and Roy ambled in, bringing the slightly metallic scent of the warehouse with him. She removed her hand from his and scooted her chair closer to where her fiancĂ© was now leaning over her desk.

Guh--this is just so well done, and it's not an easy concept to capture.

Also, I promise, no threats, but I am on pins and needles here!!!

Author's Response: Roy has great timing, doesn't he? And your non-threats worked. I updated again this afternoon. Thanks so much for your review and the kind words. It means a lot coming from a writer of your caliber.

So awesome, GiTC. And so worth the wait. I love that Pam and Jim have a sheet of words they dare each other to say in public...because of course they would.

While everything here was great, there were a few lines that stood out to me:

1. She suspected that if the cameras were here, this little tableau would become a JIM AND PAM MOMENT…analyzed and iconized and digitized over and over again. She was glad that she could keep this one for herself.

2. She shrugged off the notion that the friendship that made them such a good team was the reason they had to go through this together in the first place.

3. “I think we can handle anything.”

She was pretty sure that she meant it.

Awesome as always, GiTC. Until next time!

Author's Response: Catie--Thanks so much for your review and I'm so glad that you saw that of course they'd have a list of words. I really do think that as nervous finding out that people thought they liked each other would make both Jim and Pam, they'd both strive for normalcy. Thanks again for your feedback. I'm so appreciative of it.

This is so great!!!!! I cannot wait to see where this goes. Poor Jim, it is going to be not fun for him, huh? I love taking this angle on things. Great stuff!

Author's Response: It's not going to be fun for Jim for a while...but I'm an equal opportunity giver of misery. Pam will have some stuff to go through as well. Thanks for your review.

I applaud you, Mel. This--especially your handling of Roy--was great. I know everyone's probably quoted this line to you already, but it really is just special: “I keep messing up and you keep doing everything right and she’s still with me.”

Awesome stuff!

Author's Response: Thanks so much. Feedback from a writer of your caliber means a lot to me. I’m so floored by how well that quote has gone over. I have to admit that when I hit on that…as the crux of the dynamic between Jim and Roy I was pretty proud that I could state it so simply. Thanks again for your review.

OH.MY.GOD. This is exaaaaactly what I needed this morning. I am seriously sitting here at work cracking up like a maniac. At least I haven't had my coffee yet--I'll blame it on that. Seriously, if shit goes down like some people think it will, I'm going to print this story a million times (with your permission, of course) and stand on street corners with a jaunty hat and force people to take this and READ IT. So awesome! Thanks for making me laugh!

Author's Response: One million Schrute bucks to you, Catie, for use of the word 'jaunty'!  Look, just hold my hand and we can skip around the room until the next episode, saying LA LA LA I CAN'T HEAR YOU to all the 'flans' who are trying to put a turd in the Jam punchbowl.  Thanks for such a great review and I'm glad you got a laugh.

That was h-o-t. I love the coming out of her shell Pam Beesly. And you've articulated the point that it's just as important for her to do this alone as when she's with Jim.

Also, what was the AD reference that almost made it in? Dare I think that the lovely Ms. Beesly is a Never Nude?

I'm scared to death that you don't really love me the way I've always loved you. That I will always love you more than you love me, and someday, maybe someday soon, you'll leave me and I don't think I can survive that again.

There. That's the sum of all my fears and doubts. But how can I say that to her? She'll accuse me of not trusting her, and rightly so, I guess. Most of the time things are so great between us that it seems we've been together forever, but there's a tiny part of me that hasn't healed, a part of me that's still afraid she'll crush me with that one word, can't.

Guh--that just killed me. And you're so so right about what he's feeling. There's got to be a tiny part of him that hasn't healed yet. Simply amazing, callisto! You did a great job of giving some closure to a part of the episode that I felt to be lacking in closure. And holler--so great for your first post! I hope to see more from you soon!

Author's Response: Thanks for the kind words! I really like doing Jim\'s inner monologue because he keeps so much to himself, but I have to think he\'s still a little haunted and probably will be till he gets that ring on her finger. \r\n\r\n

I love the way you treated Karen here. And I love the way you dealt with Karen/Ryan and Ryan/Karen! So great!

Also, while this whole story was amazing, this paragraph stood out to me and made my night:

Karen watches Pam’s profile. She’s found Jim in the crowd and she follows her line of sight. He’s twirling the flower girl on the dance floor, letting her tip-toe on his feet and it’s so cute that Karen thinks she might just throw up. But she notices the corners of Pam’s mouth turn up, her eyes misting in what could only be assumed are happy tears of joy, and it would probably be a shame to ruin such a beautiful moment with vomit all over the floor. So she manages to refrain. Instead she does something that surprises even her.

So amazing!

Summary: So I've always had this odd fascination with what a Jim/Pam argument looks like now that they're a couple. So at the end of last week's episode (Night Out) I thought it might be a good time to explore that...although I'm such a sap for them I'm unable to leave them mad at each other for too long...so here goes nuthin.'
