Nice bit of self reflection here on Jim's part. He wants to be part of his family but is having a hard time figuring out where he fits. This almost feels like the night after their parking lot kiss where he doesn't go to Philly. His eyes are really open to what he's missed and it's killing him a bit. At the same time he knows what's really important so he'll be here for them from now on.

And then, just like that, your tore our heart in pieces remembering That Time which shall not be mentioned… oh the cringe. And what made this even more sad is that Jim wasn’t in Philly— he was in this room, he was in this scene, physically— so what a blow to realize his little family had gotten used to him NOT being their either emotionally or physically. I do love that he DOES recognize the signs of fatigue in her eyes, because I think in this moment, he could really go inside himself and make this about his sadness— but he is getting the moment to see how it’s affecting her too— and that it’s crucial to fix it. What a contrast from Soccer Mom! I’m sure this scene sobered Jim into realizing that he had to fix this immediately— and clearly he did. Thank God! Great angst without dialogue. So good lady!!!
