OMG, I actually got to the end of the chapter and was like, "What? No more? Why??? Whyeeeee?????" That has never happened to me before. You win.
Also: please update soon, lest I die.
Author's Response: Wow! That is indeed a compliment. And please, please don't die. :) Thanks so much for reading and reviewing, I love hearing what people think of my chapters.

I loved being in Rome so this is just a great story to read. Jim and Pam, world travellers! :)
Author's Response: Rome is so much fun! And so historical. I'm glad you're enjoying the story, it's been such a blast writing Jim and Pam as world travellers :)

"They could have and should have been more than just best friends." This line - heck, this whole chapter, broke my heart. (Although the last part of the last line sounds a teeny bit promising!)
Author's Response: *hands back pieces of kaystar's heart* Never fear, I am always a Jammer and wouldn't write it any different. Thanks so much for reading and reviewing :)

Ahhh!!! How did they miss each other like that?? (I'm assuming they were in the same internet cafe??) Very eagerly awaiting their reunion.
Author's Response: Hehe! Nope, not in the same internet cafe. Via Condotti (where Jim is) is in the Eastern part of central Rome (to the East of the Tiber River) and Pam is near Piazza San Giovanni, which is in the Western part of central Rome. They just don't realize they are both in the city at the same time. Their paths haven't crossed... just yet ;-) Thanks so much for reading and reviewing

Well this seems to be coming along nicely. I am completely hooked. Very detailed which I think is a huge plus and I love your links in the end notes.
Author's Response: Thank you so much! I'm a very detail-oriented person, so I'm really excited to hear that you're liking them. I also thought it was important that I include the images- especially for people who'd never been to Rome or the places mentioned. Thanks for reading and reviewing, I really and truly appreciate it.

You are breaking my heart in the best way... this is good! Please, keep it up, as an Italy-freak and a bigger Office-freak.
Author's Response: Aw! I don't want to break your heart, but I'm glad it's in the best way ;-) You're not the only Italy-Freak/Office-Freak, so I'm so excited to know you're loving it! Thanks so much for the review and for reading.

This is such a unique story. It seems like there is so much more to tell -- do you have it all planned out?? Anyway, I obviously CAN'T friggin' wait for them to meet up in fabulous Roma!
Author's Response: Thank you so very much! Yep, it's all planned out. Pretty much right to the very end. Thanks for reading and I'm so happy to hear that you're enjoying it. I really appreciate and love hearing people's thoughts on the chapters.

So, 2 different internet cafes, I guess? That took me a moment to realize.
This is wonderful, but my poor little heart thumps away at the angst of poor Pam trying to decide whether to send, and Jim and Karen 3 years further into a relationship... Yikes.
This is just so good! And, I assume that Pam just thought Jim saw Michelangelo’s Last Judgment in a book, and doesn't realize they're in the same town.
Pam's final message is heartbreaking. And that description of what she overheard! Nooooo! I would have run away from Dunder Mifflin as soon as I could, too.
I love the touch at the end where Karen didn't realize Jim's mood had changed. Also, did Jim send his final reply, or did he just type it and then decide not to send it since he had to meet Karen?
This has really captured my imagination.
Author's Response: Wow. What an amazing review!! To answer some of your questions- yep, 2 different cafes. And I'm glad that you noticed the misunderstanding about where each of them are. ;-) Keep that thought with you when you continue to read the next chapters... And I'm with you, if I'd seen what Pam had saw I would run as well. Yes, Jim did send the final reply- so stay tuned. :) So happy to hear that you're enjoying the fic. Thanks so much for the awesome review and for reading.

I am totally in love with this. I think you got their banter just right, and I was practically holding my breath waiting for them to respond. Seriously, they're clearly gonna run into each other....I can't wait. So, you must post again and quickly. Great work.
Author's Response: Wow! Thanks so much uncgirl for the awesome compliments. I'm so excited to hear that you found the banter realistic- I really hoped that it worked, so it's good to hear that it did. So happy to hear you're enjoying the story- thanks so much for reviewing and for reading, of course! :)

GAHH! Were they in the same cafe but they didn't see each other? Can't wait for another chapter!
Author's Response: Nope! Not in the same cafe *phew* LOL Via Condotti (where Jim is) is actually located in the Eastern part of the city. Parco Tirreno and Piazza San Giovanni are in the Western part of central Rome. So technically they are on opposite ends of the city. Ironically enough though- their hotels are actually very close in real life (like walking distance).
Thanks so much for reading and reviewing, I'm glad you're enjoying the story! :)

This was sooo good. Except that I kept yelling to Pam, "Girl, you just spent your entire first day in a foreign country in an internet cafe!!!" What is the world coming to?
But I loved the part where Karen runs into the stores. She'd totally want to go shopping, especially when she can shop somewhere other than the Steamtown Mall.
I can't wait for Pam to figure out that when he said he saw Michaelangelo's Last Judgment he meant that he actually saw it in person and not in some Art History book!
Author's Response: LOL! I'd hoped that I'd given the impression that Pam had arrived later in the day than Jim to Rome. But you're absolutely right, she's in ROME! Go see the sights, girl!!! LOL And regarding Karen- who could seriously resist going into high end fashion stores when they're right there? hehe! Thanks so much for reading and reviewing. I love hearing from readers :)

"pulling fashionista tourists"
So, I read that as fashionista tourista and laughed and then I realized that I read it wrong and laughed more.
But I think Karen is wrong, Dwight is a threat to everyone's security, safety, and most importantly, sanity.
So, from like 9th grade to about my freshman year of college, I would the same necklace every day. It seriously never left my body. Even when there were events it wouldn't be approriate to wear it to (ex wedding, senior pictures), I still tucked it into my sock, so basically, it really was never off of my body. And then it broke, and it didn't seem right to get the chain fixed (it had this very weird senitment to it)... so I stopped wearing a necklace for a while. Anyways, I got home from summer, rediscovered my neckalaces, and put on one. Now this one hasn't been off my neck in nearly a month. This does relate to the story, I promise. And now, basically, I ALWAYS find myself fiddling with it, rubbing it, twisting it, etc. And every time I think about it, I think of Pam. And voila, it connects to the story :)...
Wow, my heart fell at that conversation, so I can totally imagine Pam's reaction. I think I would have to leave at that (well, long before, I think, but after that, yeah... I mean, Jim left... Pam needs to also. There are just some things that you can't sit and watch day in and day out.
They made contact, and it was... it was so them, and yeah, still them with the joking and then the DUH HOW COULD YOU NOT KNOW moment.
In some ways, I hate messaging back and forth on facebook and stuff like that, not necesarily because it proves I have no life and am always on it, but, also, because then if I forget to tell the other person I am going, its like, I feel like I left them hanging, like in an IM conversation... so, maybe thats just me.
Oh, (this is a friends quote), this is like that in no way (which isn't really want I wanted to say but I love that quote and it kinda works). Anyways, one of my favorite authors has an lj. anyways, i read it daily. and this past year, we got her hooked on the office. and she recently joined facebook. and today her entry listed 37 things she was happy about (something to that effect, it was her 37th birthday), and both the office and facebook were on it. it was happy time. oh, and i am also reading one of her books now, and that gets so surreal. haha. so, see its totally unrelated, and the opening quote wasn't so great for it, but i like that quote, so whatever. anyways, now i am just typing, so i will shut up now :)
Author's Response: Worlds longest review! LOL Kidding!! Thanks so much, as always, for the interesting and fun replies to the chapters. When you wrote "touristas" I totally thought of the Josh Duhamel horror film (yikes!) Definitely not what I was going for! LOL I completely agree that there are things you can't sit back and watch and Pam had to move and had to have a change of scenery. Perhaps she is braver for it, no? ;-) Thanks, as always for reading and reviewing.

I am really enjoying this story and I like the setting. Looking forward to the next chapter.
Author's Response: So happy to hear that you're loving the setting. Rome is such a brilliant place to bring two people together. Thanks so much for reading and reviewing.

I am loving this story so much! I kept hoping that they would run into each other, at least they did online. I felt so bad for Pam having to "witness" the husband material exchange. No wonder the poor girl left. I cannot wait for more... :)
Author's Response: Thanks so much for the review. The husband exchange wrote itself very easily- I figured it was something so typical for parents to say to their daughter (especially if they liked the boyfriend) and I'd hoped it would come across as a random conversation that Pam overheard. But you're completely right, if I were in her position and I heard that (no matter how innocent) I too, would run. Thanks for reading and reviewing. I love hearing what people think :)

Soooo...how much longer before they run into each other? (although I am loving waiting for that to come). I love that Jim couldn't tell Karen why he knew about the art (and that he had looked it up years ago to impress Pam). I love that Pam is getting to see the world and be so excited about it. And I love that you include pictures at the end. Oh and facebook...haha...because I'm pretty sure everyone has facebook stalked someone at some point. Great chapter!
Author's Response: I know, right? As creepy as it sounds, it's like a pre-requiste to joining Facebook. I'm so excited that you're enjoying reading about Jam in Rome. And I'm also happy to hear that the images are being looked at- I figured some people would like to visualize even better what I was talking about. Thanks so much for the review and for reading. :)

I.Love.This.Story. I am so excited for the rest of When in Rome...! Keep up the fantastic work!
Author's Response: You. Are. Awesome. :) Thanks so much for the fantastic review and thanks for reading.

I LOVED this! It's so true too, I would totally be checking facebook if I were Pam. Even in Italy. And I loved Jim's reflections at the Sistine Chapel. I can't wait for them to meet up.
I'm having so much fun with this story because with this chapter in particular it's like I got to go on a summer vacation in my living room. And sad as it may be this is probably the closest I'll get to a vacation for awhile. So I can't wait for more!
Author's Response: Wow! I'm so excited to hear that you feel as though you're experiencing Rome through the story. I've been trying to paint as accurate a picture as possible. Thanks so much for the review and for reading :)

Oh the ending made me sad and begging for more.
Author's Response: I'm sorry it made you sad :( But never fear things will look up soon. :) Thanks for reading and reviewing.

poor poor pam! sniff. I hate when that happens on facebook. i mean i wasn't in love with the guy but its still like yuck. they meet in the next chapter right? PLEASE tell me they meet in the next chapter. update sooooon!
Author's Response: I hear you completely. I can't make any promises- but I hope you continue to enjoy. Thanks so much for reading and reviewing. I love hearing from readers. :)

Oh! Cry! I hope the next chapter is closer to happy. Not that this one wasn't great, because it was. Just...sad. Weep!
Author's Response: *passes tissue* There's going to be a little angst here and there, but hopefully you'll stick around. Thanks so much for reading and reviewing (don't cry! :) I'm happy you're enjoying it.
Date: June 03, 2007 09:08 pm Title: Chapter 3: Roman Holiday
Aww poor Pam! I hope she and Jim run into each other pronto and that he forgets about the ring in his pocket and Karen (I know I'm awful)...great job!
Author's Response: Thanks so much! Poor Pam indeed- don't worry though, stay tuned, you may get what you're wishing for. :)
Date: June 03, 2007 09:07 pm Title: Chapter 3: Roman Holiday
I love this story. I feel like I am in Rome again. Only this time it's with Jim and Pam which is even better! You captured the chaos of the Sistine Chapel perfectly. My only request is that you have Jim and Pam eat gelato together on the Spanish Steps. Romantico!
PS: I have stayed in a place with that bathroom before. Gotta love Europe!
Author's Response: LMAO! Several people have mentioned to me that they've stayed in a similar bathroom- I didn't realize that it's not such a rarity! LOL I'm so glad to hear that Rome is ringing true for you. I can guarantee some gelato and the Spanish Steps... perhaps not at the same time though. ;-) Thanks for reading and reviewing.
Date: June 03, 2007 04:24 pm Title: Chapter 3: Roman Holiday
OMG! How are you going to end it there?!
Author's Response: I enjoy a killer cliffhanger. lol Thanks so much for reading and reviewing. Don't worry though, the story isn't just over just yet. :)
