Wow. That was intense again. She’s not willing to accept just yet that that life is gone – that, after tonight, she’ll never find her way back there again. That line just really hit the key of Pam's struggle here for me, as just cutting someone out of your life you grew up with like she did with Roy is so hard to do.
But the saddest thing is that really Pam seems to be punishing herself more than anything, feeling both guilty for her feelings and actions, not to mention that she doesn't deserve happiness. Ironically, she is also punishing the person who ostensibly could bring her happiness....
Can't wait for the next update!

Good lord, woman -- it's like I've learned to read your reviews with my fists clenched, because you'll inevitably shed light on just how cruel I've been to Jim or Pam. (That's a compliment, by the way. ;oD)

Oh wow, girl7 -- I have been out at a football game all day (sweating my tail off and getting sunburned) and now there might even be ANOTHER chapter!?!? Thanks to football!?! Oh happy day. Well, sort of -- because it's actually delicious angstyness. And Pam -- feeing worse for hurting Jim than pushing Roy away! Ouch!
I wouldn't be able to handle any of this if not for 'it's a date'.

So I feel incredibly guilty that you actually had to sweat it out at a football game in real time (soooo been there, had the scary tan lines to prove it).
Keep in mind the whole "It's a date" thing in the chapters to come; I swear there'll be a happy ending -- it just may take a chapter or two to get there. :o)

Yay for the update!! I love where you have taken this. Angst is so much more enjoyable for me if I know it will end well, so thank you for that. I love how Jon is pushing Jim toward confronting his feelings, and I hope Jim finally does. I love the little mentions of things Jim has so sweetly done that Pam has noticed (Phyllis and Sasha). Yes, let's make it torture for her.
Mr. PB is also enamored with his tv tonight, so an update would be sooooo incredible.

So whenever there is a new chapter of this story, I HAVE to go back and read the 2 or 3 preceding it...just to keep the continutity going so I've just finished the heartbreak all over again, but am on the edge of my seat waiting to see what happens in the breakroom.
I just walked out into the living room, sniffling a little and my roomate yelled at me that I need to get a hobby. I told her that she doesn't understand...this is as good as some of the stuff that's on bookstore shelves lately. Just wonderful and I can't wait to see what happens next!

Woo hoo new chapter! But sad chapter. Pam is kinda jerking him around too much as his bro so helpfully pointed out. Right now I'm having a difficult time feeling sorry for Pam. She seems selfish and I'm having kinda a hard time empathizing with her. But great chapter and I'm looking forward to the happy. I'll definitely keep refreshing tonight in the hopes of another chapter. Yeah for football season!

At any rate...GAH! Bad girl7, bad! You're making me hate Pam, and I was never a Pam hater. I don't think I could watch the show if they had gone this route. And yet I'm compelled to keep reading (you'd better get to the promised happy ending quickly dammit!) because it's so well done. Like the pain of Battlestar Galactica's relationships. All I know is that if Pam's behavior was in the real world, violence comes next. Either suicide or a crime of passion but she has crossed a pretty offensively serious line and I don't know that I could forgive her if I was Jim.

Yeah, that song is an old one that mysteriously appeared in my i-pod shuffle, and it really seemed to fit.
It's interesting to hear you say that you're glad the show didn't go this route -- I hadn't thought about it that way, but now that you mention it, I completely get why they had her back off at so many crucial moments (his mentioning their "first date," her freakout in "The Fight," etc.). While I kind of hated her at those times for being cold to him (though I was put off by his calling the roof thing a date -- I did think that was a bit pushy of him), I see now that they had to rein her in. Interesting.
But yes, she's crossed a line here -- though Jim sort of let her cross it, because she told him the deal. In any case, I'll make it better, I promise! ....And yes, Pam will make it up to him and earn his forgiveness. :o)

If I didn't know there'd be an AU happy ending, I'd be concerned for my sanity...because my craving for this story must be symptomatic of a pathological masochist tendency, LOL. I just hope by the time Pam comes to her senses, there's something left of that poor decimated boy. And of me. This is the very definition of uber-romantic...love as something equally terrible (in the most elemental sense of the word) as it is wonderful. Bracing myself for more (a few more angsty chapters?
