wow - what a great ending. and what a perceptive idea, to pair them together (but not like that - although that would've been ok too!). great series.
Author's Response: Thanks! This was my first fic, and it was just one of those ideas that kept rattling in my head and needed release. I think the contrast between Ryan and Jim really shows who each of them is, because on some level they seem a lot alike. They are both young males who are cognizant of the craziness around them, but they handle it in completely different ways. It's been interesting trying to explore that.

I am loving this series for sure, but this "That's why I get the desk with the spectacular view," Jim said, smiling. is adorable! Great work.
Author's Response: Thanks for the review! It's clear that Jim's view is the biggest perk of his job.

Ah, that was a really nice full-circle ending. Really enjoyable story! Nice work. And good luck to Jim and Ryan. I'd love to read that story!
Author's Response: Thank you for the great review! I just might revisit Jim and Ryan's little world somewhere down the line. We shall see. Glad you liked it.

Very nice! I wonder if Ryan will have Dunder Mifflin as a client for his temp agency? :-P Great first effort!
Author's Response: Can you imagine how hurt Michael would be if they didn't get a temp from Ryan's agency?

I am in a rush, but I just wanted to say I really enjoyed this story, and really great job!
Author's Response: Thank you so much for all the great reviews!

Oooh, I know nothing about design and everything about HTML. Okay, and not everything. But some things. I could pair up with pam. That would be fun!
Author's Response: Hehe. I know nothing about any of it. I hope it's even quasi realistic that her desire to graphic design would remotely correlate to web design. Design's in the name, right?

Oh, Conflict Resolution, how I miss you. Seriously, what are you trying to do, make me pull out my season two DVDs just to relive the fun S2ness of the series instead of the no fun Jim/Pam intereaction of S3... not that that is a bad thing.
Ya know, but I think wrapped up in Pam is a whole bunch of other dreams for Jim, he just can't quite see it yet.
Author's Response: I love Conflict Resolution, and had to work it in. I am a fairly recent owner of the S2 DVDs, and have practically worn them out in about a six week span. So, I think that might have something to do with the S2 callbacks.
I do think that there are more dreams out there for Jim, and that Pam has a lot to do with that. It will be interesting to see where it goes next season.

"Oh, Michael said to tell you he's dead."
Hehe, The Injury. Ryan's dead. Wow, I may need to go watch that episode again.
"yet they always seemed to know what the other was thinking. " And that is the true essences of Jim/Pam relationship. That and using that power to torment Dwight.
Author's Response: I've seen The Injury quite a few times, and Toby stuttering out that Ryan is dead cracks me up every single time for some reason.
I always love how in tune Jim and Pam are when they pull these pranks or jokes. It's really such a great thing to watch.

The only thing I would suggest so far (and this is SO so minor, its just a personal preference of mine), is naming chapters. Not just chapter one and chapter two... but things like "after the call" or something like that. I don't know. I have fun making up chapter titles when i write. But, that is all. I just wanted to suggest it since it is your first time with fics.
I would say at least Michael won't start kissing and dating his new boss like he did Jan, but I can certainly imagine he might want to.
You really have the Jim/Pam banter down, which is great.
Wow, what an end. I totally understand it, but still whoa.
Author's Response: I will definitely think about chapter titles. I see in hindsight a few little things I want to clean up in general. I'm usually pretty anal, so the little imperfections drive me nuts. And chapter titles would help make it more orderly. I honestly didn't even know how to do chapter titles until I was in the fourth chapter or so. I'm so green!
I really appreciate hearing that you liked the Jim/Pam banter. I was a little concerned with getting it down, which is part of the reason I liked doing a non Jim/Pam story on my first time out. I really wanted to get it right when I did use them, because I enjoy them so much.

Hmm, so its not just Michael who dislikes Toby. Apparently, it is once you get promoted, you hate Toby. Interesting :)
I admit, Dwight and Michael being excellent salesmen is one of the very confusing aspects of the show. Somehow, they do it, and do it well.
I think I agree, I would buy anything from Jim. I would want a recurring contract, just to insure future conversations.
Author's Response: I think all upper management must hate HR as a rule at DM. It might be yet another reason Jim couldn't move on to Corporate.
I'm not sure if I conveyed it as well as I wanted, but I started thinking watching the Initiation just how frustrating it must be to be Ryan and know so much about business, but see Dwight and Michael actually be really good at sales while Ryan sucks at it. Then bringing Jim into the picture, it would almost be more frustrating to see Jim so successfuly because he seems to hardly even try yet is seemingly really good at what he does.
But yes, I want that paper contract with Jim as well.

What a great piece! You did a wonderful job with Ryan and Jim and I really liked how you kept switching up the point of view.
Author's Response: Thank you so much. I liked getting into both their heads-it's funny, I found Ryan easier in the beginning, and then Jim easier near the end. But it was fun. I'm really happy you enjoyed reading it.

Wonderful end to a great story. Again, I really enjoyed the dynamic between jim and ryan that you illustrated here and how Ryan is one of the few characters that Jim cannot completely charm. And Ryan is such an open book to Jim.
I also really liked your take on Jim's ambition for work and it really makes complete sense(him not having as much drive for work since he now has Pam) and I would love to see the show go in this direction too. Not that I want Jim going anywhere, but him confronting that would be great.
Ryan's idea for atemp agency made me laugh and it also made want a sequel. Great story! Hope to read more from you in the future.
Author's Response: Thank you so much for all your really encouraging reviews. I look forward to seeing them after I write a chapter.
It took me about two days to decide on what sort of business Ryan would want to open, then it just dawned on me how fitting a temp agency would be. I'm really glad you liked the idea too!

This was just fantastic! I loved reading about Jim and Ryan's quasi-relationship. I would love to hear more, maybe an epilogue from a couple years down the road? I'm just being greedy. :) Nice Job!
Author's Response: Thank you so much. We shall see if the muse brings me back to this little world or not. I'm really glad you enjoyed reading it.
Date: August 02, 2007 09:09 pm Title: Ryan's Proposal
WOW! This is just so great. First off, it takes courage to write a story that is about more than the Jim/Pam romance. And exploring the Jim/Ryan relationship is really interesting -- and I really hope we get to see some of the character development you've written in S4. Nicely done.
Author's Response: Thank you so much! I'm not sure if it was courage on my part to go this route, or just wanting to go in my own direction and not compete with all the great Jim/Pam writers out there. I really appreciate the kind words.

I'm curious about Ryan's idea. I do continue to find it interesting how what Ryan lacks, jim has, and vice versa.
I also really liked how you handled the scene with michael and the mug. Flawless and perfect Jim voice. I look forward to more!
Author's Response: Thanks for the compliment! It took me a bit to get the wording I was looking for with Jim's description of why Ryan didn't need the mug. It needed to be that smooth way he can pacify Michael, like with convincing Michael that Pam's Dundie needed to be changed. So, I am happy you feel I got it.

The sad thing was, beyond Pam, he had no real dreams. He didn't even like pretzels all that much.
Yup, that is pretty sad. I hope we get some more Jim character development beyond being in love with Pam in S4.
Author's Response: I definitely agree. It was great seeing Pam blossom last season, really going for what she wanted both personally and pursuing art. It would be nice to see Jim get fleshed out more as well beyond being the charming prankster who is in love with Pam.

"At least Ryan knew he was avoiding that fate. After all, he was an executive of a company that sold paper. That made a huge difference."
That'll show 'em.
In all seriousness, I am really enjoying your exploration of the dynamic between Jim & Ryan. Should be interesting to see what S4 brings for everyone.
Author's Response: Thanks, I'm really glad you're enjoying it. It should be really interesting to see the premiere with all the different changes of dynamic that should be happening.
Date: July 28, 2007 04:22 pm Title: Ambition Envy
Another intriguing look at Jim and I really liked the honesty in the conversation between Jim and Pam. I especially enjoyed that final line about not envying Ryan's position, but his ambition. I didn't think Jim turning down the promotion only had to do w/ Pam and I like how Jim in your story is having to face that head on. And yay for Ryan giving Pam this kind of opportunity.
Author's Response: Thanks so much for the kind words. I do really believe that Jim has to be pretty ambivalent about things at some point, especially after finally getting what he wanted for so long. He might not want the job at Corporate, but that doesn't mean that he doesn't want something more at some point out of his career. Having Pam kind of leaves him without a goal, and that has to put a lot of pressure on Pam and the relationship. I'm glad that you're enjoying my attempt at conveying these ideas.
Date: July 28, 2007 10:42 am Title: Jim and Ryan's Sales Call
Nice, I really like this chapter, with its insight into Jim and the flashback of their first sales call. Great work!
Author's Response: Thanks, I really appreciate it. This chapter is the little idea that started this whole thing. When I was watcching the rerun of the Initiation, I thought about what would happen if Ryan had asked Jim to accompany him on a sales call. And then I started pondering their whole interaction...and I apparently couldn't just stop there. :)
Date: July 27, 2007 06:55 am Title: Ryan Returns Again
Nice! "Big Apple"--I love it : )
Author's Response: Thanks! I just had been watching The Return and the "Big Turkey" comment, and as soon as I thought of the term Big Apple for NYC, I could just hear Andy saying, "Hey, Big Apple!"
Date: July 26, 2007 09:18 pm Title: Ryan Returns Again
More excellent characterization. I really love how you are writing Ryan and that he isn't all arrogance but is actually quite conflicted. And of course the Ryan/Jim interaction continues to be really enjoyable and interesting and I look forward to their bar conversation.
Author's Response: Thanks! I think you see the little flashes on the show sometimes where Ryan isn't all arrogance and swagger.
The bar conversation is about a chapter away-the meeting and party come first!
Date: July 19, 2007 02:38 am Title: The Mediation
I think this is such an interesting way to develop this story and I really enjoy the odd dynamic between Ryan and Jim and you really illustrate that perfectly. I look forward to more!
Author's Response: Thanks so much! I've been enjoying fleshing out this dynamic. I'm really glad you're enjoying it!
Date: July 13, 2007 08:56 pm Title: Jim and Ryan's Sales Call
I really like this dynamic between Jim and Ryan. It's so in character and I can definitely see it portrayed on the show. I can't wait to read about the lunch at Chilli's. You're doing a great job on this, I'm enjoying it.
Author's Response: A much belated thank you for the review! Hope the next chapter didn't disappoint! Thanks for reviewing.
Date: July 13, 2007 04:21 pm Title: Jim and Ryan's Sales Call
Oh, Ryan. It's not that much of a difference. I really like this and am definitely intrigued to see where you go with it next!
Author's Response: Thanks so much! I really appreciate you taking the time to comment-I'm glad you're enjoying it.
Date: July 12, 2007 10:51 pm Title: Reality Sets In
wow, those last few paragraphs are probably the best idea for the beginning of S4 I have seen yet. I think that Jim could easily have an "epiphery" very much like that when he finds out about the Temp. Great stuff.
Author's Response: Thanks for the kind words. Once I started writing, I felt how much Jim was putting into this relationship. Not that his dream per se had been a corporate job, but I think he just jumped on a romantic whim which may or may not pay off. Either way, once the adrenaline of the whole thing wears off, I am interested to see where that leaves him.
