Not to lose out on Gossip, which is really one of the funnier episodes of the back half of the series, but I would have loved to see some of these reactions on screen. Michael's is perfect - he knows Pam's been mothering him for years.
Also, Season 6 makes the fact that Creed calls her Penny even funnier in retrospect.
Author's Response: Thank you! I loved tackling the conference room/bullpen scenes, where we get just a little slice of each character. Super fun. (I'm having so much fun revisiting all of these with you, thank you!!)

awwww michael. he can be just so wonderful at times.
Author's Response: He does have his moments! Thanks for reading and reviewing!

AWW!!!!
So impeccably in-character!
And not to mention completely adorable!
Author's Response: Why, thank you! Yeah, I wrote this back when Karen and Toby were still hanging around the office, but otherwise I think it's still pretty much what would happen. Thank you so much, glad you enjoyed it!

I could see they doing that. So IC!
Author's Response: Thank you! I'm not great at plot development, so all I have to hang onto is characterization. I'm so glad you think I got that part right!

Ha! I love that they ended up betting on it.
Loved even more that Creed said, "Mozel Tov, Penny."
Author's Response: Thank you! I had a lot of fun with this one. I'm glad you enjoyed it, too!

I really enjoyed this, lis. I think you did a really good job with everyone's responses.
I was recently watching GWH and was struck by the scene where Phyllis said she was getting married to Bob Vance of Vance Refrigeration. It was interesting to see that Stanley, usually the guy with a grouchy expression, had a big smile and hearty congrats for his coworker across the way. I could imagine that here, and then it made a lot of sense for him to talk about the college savings!
The one thing you missed the boat on, lis, and you'll kick yourself...Phyllis should have asked about the colors and design for the nursery! (So she could steal it all for the next rendition of Vance twins!) Ha!
I really liked Michael's two-sided approach to his congratulations. The clueless inappropriate Michael as well as the Business School Art Show Michael.
Nice job.
Author's Response:
Oh, heavens, Phyllis would totally steal Pam's nursery ideas! Heee. Nice one.
Thank you very much, and thanks for the really specific comments! I think Stanley is a nice guy, just supremely uninterested in the shenanigans around him. And Michael- well, I love how they've made Michael such a fleshed-out character, so it is fun to show both sides of him at once. I'm so glad you enjoyed this!

okay, so.... isn't there a sign for an all hands meeting behind pam's desk? if i am not imaging that detail (and even if i am) thats an awesome little detail. and... what exactly is an all hands meeting... besides learning about avoiding forest fires.
Kelly's reaction - yep. And if the baby has eardrums, quite likely shattered.
And poor Karen, that couldn't be easy.
Okay, so, yeah, all the reactions are awesome. And I love Kevin's. It makes me laugh. Kevin always makes me laugh.
And such a sweet detail that they had a bet riding on it.
:D. Totally enjoyed it!
Author's Response:
Thank you! An "all-hands" meeting is one in which everyone in the company has to show up. "All hands on deck" sort of thing.
I also love Kevin. Heh.

that was sweet!!!
Author's Response: Thank you! Glad you liked it!

this is lovely! fluffy but genuine. thank you.
Author's Response: Thank you very much- "fluffy but genuine" is a lovely compliment, and it really is my goal in these lighter pieces. I think the show balances the joy and the tedium of life very well, and striving to capture that is a fun challenge. Thanks again!

Michael's "real" comments at the end just about made me cry. I mean, sure, I have my period, but still. But still! Great little story. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Author's Response:
Hee, I guess I only get credit for some of the emotions, then- thank your hormones for me! I'm glad you enjoyed this little peek into DM life. Thank you!

Michael's remarks to Pam were so sweet! He can do 99 things that make you cringe (or worse) - and then one thing that totally redeems himself. Great story!
Author's Response: Thank you! Yes, I think that about sums Michael up in a nutshell. I just like the idea that Pam knows that about him (after her art show, maybe she knows it better than anyone). Thank you again.

This is fantastic. Wonderful voices and a wonderful read. Perfect execution, as always.
Author's Response: Wow, thank you! I don't often deviate from pure Jim/Pam, so it is fun to play with the other voices. I'm so pleased it worked for you!

Hee! HR paperwork!! (Poor Toby!)
And a Dundie to you for writing about JamBabies!!!
Author's Response: Thank you, thank you! I've got babies on the brain (and, um, in the womb) these days. Heh.

Yay me!
So, I saved my list of favorite bits for here so it would be a surprise to you. First of all: a forest fire video! BWAH! Dwight's concern about hazardous chemicals. Angela's reason for her congratulations. And finally Michael. "Gets all his paperwork done." Awwww.
Author's Response: Awwww, thank you! This is a great surprise! I was particularly pleased with Dwight's line- it was a re-write from something sort of not that funny. Thank you for the great inspiration!

I love how Michael is all crude at first, but really quite sweet in private. It's very Michael-esque. Also, Creed's line was brilliant. Heh.
Author's Response: Thank you! Yes, I think Jim bet that Michael would be crude, but Pam knew he'd be sweet (eventually). I'm glad you enjoyed Creed's comment- it was really the whole inspiration for the story! Thank you again.

“You’ll be a great mom,” he said. “You’ll make sure the baby feels special, and respected, and gets all his paperwork done.”
Aww! That's really, really sweet. I've always thought Pam was forced to be a lot like a mom to Michael. lol The rest of the reactions were pure genius. :)
Author's Response: Thank you. I'll definitely take "pure genius" as a comment any day! I like it when Michael has one of his moments of actual insight- I'm not sure he is really aware of how much Pam mothers him, but I do think he appreciates her. Thanks again!

Brilliant. Spot on reactions...and even more spot on was Jim and Pam betting on it. Fantastic.
Author's Response: Thank you! I love that you think everyone was behaving in-character. This was a lot of fun to write- glad you enjoyed it!

I love any story that has sweet Michael in it and this does not disappoint. Excellent.
Author's Response: He does have a sweet streak, doesn't he? Which really saves him from being a total boor. Heh. Thank you so much!
Date: September 04, 2007 01:54 pm Title: Congratulations!
These are like little portraits of each character, all rendered perfectly in just a sentence or two around a theme. I'm a big fan of concise, clean writing and this is totally that. Especially loved Creed and Michael's reactions - so funny, but with a big aw at the end. And I could just picture Jim's face throughout. Totally delightful.
Author's Response: Thank you so much! It was a quick one to write, actually, because these characters are so fully realized on the show that, like Pam, I had no trouble imagining how they would react. I am so glad you enjoyed it!

This was great. "Mazel Tov Penny" Hahahahaha. Nice.
Author's Response: Thank you so much! Creed is a lot of fun to sprinkle in to a story every now and again, that's for sure.
