very intense. Although of course I was happy that they ended up getting together I never felt like they even said much to eachother in their conversation after Pam's speech. It was important but I thought they would be more honest to eachother. This story give that, despite going in a different direction. I liked it a lot.
Also second the comment below:
The "What you miss – that wasn't friends" line really great, could have been in the show.

I don't think I've said it yet, but I am so glad you posted more of your work here, and have so enjoyed reading it, so thank you.
Here is the part where I'm just having a conversation with myself over the internet about how awesome your writing is. The thing is, I sort of hate the angst fic where it's 5 years down the road and Jim and Pam are both married to someone else, and stay that way, but I make the effort to read things that aren't really my thing, to respect the work that goes into creating something. And I've read this like 5 times now, and as much as I adore happy, shiny, fluffy Jim and Pam, this is Wow.
"What you miss – that wasn't friends. That was us… that was me being something more. All the time. And I can't be that for you and be with Karen at the same time."
That really needed to be said.

OK, so first of all, I am so glad to see your work here. It's like an early Christmas present! OK, enough fangirling, on to the review...
I loved this... the fact that there wasn't really any resolution, that there was a lot of frustration... but my favorite line was this:
Her heart's still thumping like crazy, banging against her ribs, and she's not entirely sure what she just said. Nobody died, though, and the lake didn't boil and the stars didn't fall and everyone looked a little embarrassed and a little guilty, but they were listening to her for once.
This was so perfect, so realistic and yet the imagery was so out of the norm...
So, thanks!

This was so heartbreakingly sad. When Jim said he'd stay if she asked him to I was sure this would have a happy ending.... I guess it did - for Karen.
