Ok, you are trying to kill me. And DM is totally like the 3rd grade. Nice observation!
Author's Response: Yes, DM is totally third grade. Not second, and not fourth... ;) I'm well acquainted with third graders. And, I'm not trying to kill you. ;) I'm going to finish this tonight. Thanks so much for staying with this story!

Best chapter yet. Can't wait for the next one!
Author's Response: Oh, wow, am I ever glad to read that, NanReg! I was really nervous about this one..so I'm particularly glad that you enjoyed it! Thanks so much again for reading and reviewing!

Somehow missed this story before, but just caught up. It has a nice rhythm to it, and I really like how you've stayed true to what I imagine the characters were feeling at that time, yet interwoven a believable alternate narrative. Also like Mrs. B. here, Pam's emails with coworkers were all very in character (love Angela's) and I actually breathed a sigh of relief when she flirted with Jim at the end of this chapter (3rd grade analogy is perfect too.) Looking forward to more.
Author's Response: Thank you so much, Colette! I'm glad my characters seem realistic, and that you are enjoying Mrs. B. I'm glad Pam finally decided to give Jim a break, too. ;) I hope you will read the rest, just one chapter and an epilogue left. I think I'll be posting it later. Thanks again for reading and reviewing!

this story is WOW! I love it. You're really capturing Pam's Pain last season so well. It makes me want to cry for her. Poor Pammy. :(
Author's Response: Wow, Sharipep, I'm just so glad you're enjoying it. I have got to get done with this story; I have other things to do! Wow, fanfic can be consuming...anyway. You might be happy to know that I will probably post an update soon and complete the story later today. Thanks for reading and reviewing-- I cannot tell you how much I appreciate it!

"Pam, for whom asking him out to coffee was her equivalent to him saying "I'm in love with you." He remembered her awkward flirting in the break room: "REM cycle". She was insecure and vulnerable, at best; why had he not considered that when she took even the smallest of steps toward him?"
Nice job with Jim's thoughts - and the break-up with Karen. And I totally admired Diane's restraint in waiting 2 hours to check the computer! I'd be sitting there hitting refresh every 30 seconds!
Author's Response: Again, thanks kaystar. I have to admit (Is that braggy? I don't mean to be braggy. /Pam) that I am fond of the phone call between Diane and Jim...how she's trying not to let on that she's overjoyed he's calling, and that she knows exactly why. It tickles me that she makes herself wait as well. Thanks so much for the review and for pulling out parts of my little story to comment on. It really has been a huge encouragement for a not-very-confident writer...thank you!

"How was it that Jim was standing there looking at Karen, and Roy was being held on the floor by about six men, and the drums were still pounding and the music was still playing and she was still standing, still standing....and her whole world had just exploded itself all around her?"
"He doesn't want me anymore. But he doesn't want me to be with anyone else."
Wow. Poor, poor Pam.
Author's Response: Again, I'm glad that you reviewed this section particularly. I thought that Jim just wanted to stop her--once he did, he really was at a loss about what to say, not wanting to declare in front of Roy (of all people) and his very own (then) girlfriend. So of course, Pam misinterprets. But, Pam's mom to the rescue, giving Jim advice he didn't ask for and didn't know he needed. I hope you will continue reading; it should be completed today! Thanks again!

Really enjoye this chapter. It was easy to feel Pam's pain in the first section and Jim's sense of hope in the second. And in between was poor Karen, clueless while her boyfriend was planning how to break up with her.
And I like the way Jim's thoughts were escalating in this paragraph:
"He was already walking toward her, already seeing stars behind his eyes, already feeling his heart pound through his suit jacket, his stomach pooling into a puddle at his feet. It was too loud- there were too many people- Kevin was beating his drums and Jim had a visceral need to take those drumsticks and shove them down his throat."
Author's Response: Thank you so much, kaystar! I hoped to convey how desperate Jim felt to just stop her. It's not like him to have such a reaction to a pair of drumsticks! So I'm glad that seemed to come across. Thanks for the review; I appreciate it so much!

Oh! Oh, oh, oh--I love this story so much. I'm sorry I didn't review every chapter, but I honestly couldn't stop reading long enough to type something. I didn't want to take myself out of the story for even a minute to leave a review.
Pam's mom is an absolute angel, and I love how Jim opened up to her in the email--and the way he asked her permission to email her, and was so respectful...ah. So sweet and so very Jim.
Excellent, excellent story. I'm so glad you're updating frequently, because I can't wait for more!
Author's Response: Thank you so much, invis! I notice that you're very good at grammar, which makes me a little self-conscious about mine. **blush** I used to love to write. I have been away from it for a long time, and through this site have rediscovered how much joy there is in it. I know there's big flaws in my writing, but this has been 100% pleasure for me. I'm actually a musician, trained and professional and all that. ;) But I always, always encourage others to get joy from their music, whether they sing like an angel or a bullfrog, because that's what music is about. It's about the joy of it. And that's how I feel about writing these stories: it's just all joy for me. I'm hoping other people will enjoy reading them as I have enjoyed writing them, but I'm not really expecting that. So, you can imagine how incredibly grateful I feel when anyone who reads my stories reviews them as well. When someone with experience in editing and grammar does so, WOW....I'm just...wow. Thank you, so much. And thank you for overlooking my flaws **blushes again** ;)

Wow, just wow . Phylis' wedding just broke my heart, and this is like a delicious do-over! Love where you're taking the story, loved the emails and Jim's reticence with Pam's mom on the phone. Thanks for all the updates, I check back several times a day just for this story!
Author's Response: Wow, thanks Annika. As you probably know, it's all complete now. I really hope the ending did not disappoint! Thanks for reading and for reviewing; I really appreciate it!

So many updates ! I just love that Jim called Pam's mom. And then proceeded to tell her everything via email and not on the phone. Lovely. Please please more.
Author's Response: Thanks, amalia! I'm glad that you liked the phone conversation...well, what little of it there was. Yeah, he had to spill it all on email, too intimidated to talk to her, I think. Thanks for reading, and I hope you will continue to do so. There's only a bit left.... ;)
