Uh, YES. This is killing my soul a little bit, but in the best way possible. Bring it on. Angst, happiness, smut, whatever. I'll read it :D
Author's Response: Thanks so much, Wendy! It's definitely time to dilute the angst a bit. After dedicating my brain to these two chapters, my soul is definitely crying a little too. But I hope to make it all worthwhile -- all of those things are penciled in for future chapters. Hope you like them. :) Thanks so much for the review!

It is sad, but it's beautiful, too. I've read a few of these "what if" fics, but this is definitely at the top of my list. You write the emotions with such lush color and weight; I really like it. Waiting patiently for more!! --CH
Author's Response: Thank you so much, Becky; that means a lot to me. I had been throwing around various "what if" scenarios for awhile, revolving around the idea that even if Jim were present during Pam's breakup with Roy, starting a new relationship together would not have been a quick or easy process. Besides getting over Roy, Pam also had a lot of growing up to do herself. I think the show did a great job showing Pam's transition, but I thought I'd throw another possibility out there. :) Thanks so much for the review, and I hope you like the rest.

I LOVE this story. It's so so good. God, I WISH it could have happened like this between them. I cannot wait for more!
Jim - Don't move!!
More soon please!!
Author's Response:
Thanks so much, kells! Actually, I have my own theories on why Pam didn't tell Jim when she called off the wedding on the show -- I think she knew she wasn't in a position to start a relationship with him, but he had said during CN that he didn't want to be friends anymore. So she was kind of stuck. But of course I also think that if she would have just explained it to him he would understand, so... that's basically the premise here. :)
Don't worry, Jim is safe -- see the story summary ;) Thanks so much for reviewing!

Thirty, I'm always so happy to see a new story from you. This one does not disappoint.

Um.... I don't believe you - continue. :-) So good, I can't wait for more!

"Terminal cardiac fracture."
Great description of what my heart was feeling as I read Jim's thoughts in the shower. So sad, so heartbreaking.
Author's Response: Ugh, yes, writing all this Jim angst is breaking my heart. But, things are starting to look up for him now, so I'm starting to feel better. Thanks for the review, kaystar. :)

Sooooo...there is more right? When?! Because um... you got me hooked!

This absolutely RAWKS.
Author's Response: Thanks so much, Shassafrass! I figure Jim's head could not have been a fun place to be post-Casino Night....

please continue! I'm ready to go up...thats what she said. Seriously though sooo good!!! Please continue. I always wondered if he went, cause they never mentioned it after that...but great start!!
Author's Response: Thanks bee sly! Don't worry, I'm definitely continuing (chapter 2 is almost done), and things will definitely be looking up. TWSS. But yeah, it's interesting how they never mentioned Jim's Australia trip afterwards. I'm assuming he went, because I don't think his desire to be in town for Pam's wedding ever increased, but you never know. Thanks for the review. :)

Oops. Me again. I messed up the star thingy, so I need a do-over. (No wonder I usually don't use it.)
Author's Response: Ha! I'm just waiting for the day I intend to give someone 5 stars and accidentally give them a 5/10 instead. I just consider it dumb luck that I haven't yet.

You've got me. This line is just laser sharp for the whole situation at that point: Would she still say he was misinterpreting their fucking friendship? So often Jim-angst is written in a kind of formulaic way (just add one part Pam) but it feels so visceral and real here. If I didn't trust you, I'd think I was a glutton for punishment...but I can't wait for more ;-)
Author's Response: Thanks so much Colette! "Visceral" was exactly feeling I was going for. As I see it, a post-CN happy ending could have been possible, but it wouldn't have been quick or easy for either of them. Pam couldn't just drop everything in a flash, or even make that decision immediately, so I don't want to oversimplify that. But yes, life will definitely improve for Jim Halpert. :)

i was so excited to see a xiu xiu reference in an office fic :) and what a beautifully crafted story, too. can't wait for more...dang that pam. always running away.
Author's Response: Xiu Xiu! So good, but so unsettling. I thought it was appropriate for Jim's frame of mind. Glad you like it so far -- chapter 2 is almost done, so that'll be up soon. Thanks so much for the review! :)

I love it. So so accurate and beautifully told. Can't wait for more!
Author's Response: Thanks so much Stablergirl! These things take me forever. But I'm almost done with chapter 2, so that'll be up soon. Thanks for the review. :)

Very nice start. It'll be interesting to see where you go from here. Keep it up! -CH
Author's Response: Thanks, Becky! Yeah, I'm not entirely sure what I'm getting myself into here, but I do have a plan. Hope you like it. Thanks for the review!
