This is just adorable! I like that you made Jim do this for their anniversary and not for his first declaration of love. The "Of course I love you, you idiot..." just cracked me up!
Author's Response: Oh, I definitely agree, this wouldn't work for a real first-time declaration of love. Which is why hopefully people who were reading this were kind of confused about what the hell I was doing. This was great. I totally didn't see the end coming, I thought he must still be with Karen as I read it.
And this line deserves a Dundie for the best use of the word "accordion" in a story: ".... and the way her neck was probably going to look like an accordion in ten years."

I'm glad that I was able to mislead you with the beginning of the story. That was definitely my intention, and I wanted people to be confused until the reveal...generally speaking confusion is something I go for with my writing anyway, so this wasn't a challenge. And I accept the Dundie for the best use of the word 'accordion', and I'd like to think my Keds and my insomnia which made this possible!

Author's Response: There are quite a few fics out there that have lyrics in them, but how many with REO Speedwagon? What a tragic oversight by the MTT fic-writing community. So this is just a small step in rectifying that. I have another fic where there is a conversation about Styx, so I'm really working toward including every awesome late 70s, 80s band I can think of.
