If this were really true of Pam (which I doubt), there should be a followup- Jim should be in the parking lot and confront her worthless ass. Then dump her, go back to Katy or Kathryn. Pam could marry ryan and deal with his cheating, drugs, and worthlisness.

I think you come up to the edge of Pam OOC without actually crossing it. It's a strange situation and it certainly calls for unusual behavior.

I think it's a bit OOC, but you take care of that really by mentioning it up front, kind of a "slightly off character disclaimer." I think that's a sensible thing to do with some stories, and especially preferable to just writing OOC with no thought or care as to whether it is OOC. I'm sure we've both seen some of that.
I like that this is happening when she's at Pratt. Living in NYC for a few months actually should change he a little bit anyway; she'll be a bit more worldly perhaps, and certainly exposed to more types of people than ever.
I like that she leaves him cigarettes and he has the impression she'll visit again. It sort of proves the truth in "Oh, haven’t you heard? I’m too nice to hate anyone."
