Ahhh, that's better. They finally have the timing right and it's wonderful. The early days of their true relationship and it's a joy to read. The simple but fun gesture with the roses, a favorite resturant, and of course all the after dinner activites. Through it all, the fun banter that is just so JAM. Just a ton of fun to read this one and see them like this.

One more time of Pam fooling herself. I mean I get the fact she's lonely and hurting and Roy is there, willing, and familiar. However even now I think she knows this second chance with him won't really amount to anything. She knows where her heart should belong, but the timing's just not right.
Onto better days.

Yeah lots of confusing feelings for her here. I get the feeling she still really trying to put in the effort she should with Roy. Especially with a wedding date now set. However she's also very attunded to Jim and so she picks up the fact that he's slipping away from her. Which I think scares her even more. The fact that despite everything she still has Jim in her head is very telling of her true feelings for him.

More and more problems with Pam and Roy as the wedding gets pushed back. Seems like Roy just really doesn't get her. Yeah he does try there at the end, but at the same time he doesn't get her like Jim does.
Also telling that more and more Pam is reaching out to Jim for emotional support rather than Roy. Her heart has been shifting from one man to the other for awhile now.

Yet another delay on the wedding and yet another way Jim is there for Pam. Loved that he lets her have some space and then when he does come to find her, he also lightens the mood. Feels like Pam's really starting to hide behind a big old wall of denial about what her relationship to Jim means to her. Still really well written to get a lot of those emotions out.

There was a realnesss to this chapter. You said you had a hard time getting into Pam’s mindset but I think it was pretty accurate. She may have thought she was in love with Roy and so it made sense she would enjoy her trip with him and even make excuses for his not wanting her to do the internship. But her conflict and sadness and confusion over what was happening with her best friend you seem to nail. The way she kind of knew there was something about the old crush coming up and her own true feelings in the silence on the boat were wonderful insights. I have a feeling next chapter is going to crush me. And I’m only reserving jelly beans so I can drop them on the happier chapters to come after that. (Plus I hate when I run out too fast and then need one for an especially good chapter at end)

This one was super cute. Always a good time seeing versions of the mini-golf incident where Jim gets the Teapot gift. Some of the first more than friend feelings with Jim there on Pam's part too.

Yes Pam and Roy had their good moments together. A lady like Pam wouldn't have said yes to a proposal if they hadn't. However the foreshadowing is strong here with Roy already putting off the wedding.

Nope. Too sad.
And I like that you can really feel what's going on in Jim's head in this one even without Jim's POV, what he's up to with his distractions and what he's trying to get across with her here.

Oooof. Poor Pam. This all feels too real. And of course Jim remembered the "fries with that shake" line.

"Wait, is the boy suppose the hero of story?" Pam teased.
"He thought he was, but turns out the girl spent that time getting more courageous and when the boy was about to run away again, she literally walked through fire to stand before this boy and tell him she wished he would come back." Jim nodded, "So they saved each other in a way, I think."
I love this set of lines. So much.

THE FIRST VALENTINE'S DAY. I am 100% sure someone in the writers' room had a specific script in mind for this and I will not rest until I discover what it is. Or at the very least I'm gonna follow Jen Celotta on social media.Â
I love the bit about Pam's thoughts on the yogurt lid note. The idea that it was really just the communication-with-Jim version of her "we never got the timing right" talking head is under-explored and a really strong interpretation.
And the Jim-Pam dialogue throughout this is wonderful, and I have no doubt this is what they sound like behind closed doors. The "giant oaf/horny little devil" exchange is perfect, as is Pam musing about what her meemaw would have thought of how the figurine's capa was detated,Â
The flashback to Season 3... serious chills. Feels very real.

Again, be still my fluffy heart. I will never get enough of them being cute with each other like this. I love so much how they're able to talk about the "Spank Bank" lol, especially the callback to their first valentine's day.

Oh, be still my fluffy heart. I loooove this chapter, especially Jim's note at the end. It reminded me a lot of Jim faxing Dwight notes from Future Dwight, lol. I also loved Jim and Pam reminiscing about falling in love in the office. I wish we could have gotten a little more of that in the show, so this was so perfect!

This fic was the first to make the connection for me that the wedding episode is set around Valentine's, making it at least six more devastating. Thanks for that.
This was just really well-written, and does I think a good job of capturing what Pam must have been thinking (or not thinking) at this especially brutal point in the storyline.

First off, I *love* the choice to make them not having spent much time skiing in the Poconos mean exactly what Jim feared it meant. #TeamPamRoyGoodSexLife. And I like that even among the happier moments with Roy, she's still thinking about Jim - it's not just about her relationship with Roy being bad, but very specifically about him being a good fit. Also, the acknowledgement that Roy has a point about the difficulties of this internship. (There's some really interesting class stuff in this love triangle that doesn't usually get explored that I think you start to touch on here.)
In general, I'm noticing on reread how much you can see of Roy's good side in this fic. This feels like a guy she could keep talking herself into.
Ouch. Pam being devastated by Jim being disappointed in her. Such ouch. Really, a lot of her rationalizing here feels like you've hit it dead on.

Again, this logic behind one of the delays of the wedding adds a whole lot of context to why Pam puts up with it for so long. Her doubts are totally legitimate, but at least one of these delays is just life happening and not really on Roy at all. And I love giving Jim a moment where being a good friend to Pam means acting against his own romantic interest and him doing it unhesitatingly. Adorable.

NGL: I vastly prefer this to the superfan version of his proposal, because you can actually see why Pam might stick it out with this guy. I don't *love* reading Pam in love with Roy, but I think it's important (and good for our girl) if she was at some point, you know?)

So first off the chapter title for this one- that there is a word that means this and that you used it is here is so right.
Jim's card - loved it. Her reply sketches too and the conversations you write for them are a delight.
Hope there's still some of your signature fun to go along with the angst of what comes next.

I seem to be running through the holidays on my bookshelf. I just finished a Christmas story and now I'm onto Valentine's Day. This one was a lot of fun how is it enjoy a well-placed TWSS but I loved it even more than Kevin didn't quite understand it. I'm a sucker for any kind of origin story, teapot items especially. What adds to this one is the spot on banter. The banter you write for these two always brings me glee.
There was something just right about Michael having bought a kid golf set and I adore the picture of him playing with it for its disturbance factor but also the innocence of it.
And finally the small detail of Jim's apparent blush even in black and white photography was the perfect bit to close this out.
Author's Response:
Thanks so much, I really enjoyed writing this chapter. I love the Kevin not getting Michael’s TWSS joke too because I can so vividly picture it being acted out. I always kinda dread writing Michael because there’s definitely a needle to be thread between insensitive but not malicious, smarter than he seems but not nearly as smart (nor as funny) as he thinks etc etc and I like to think I did okay here. And I hope I also found the balance of early Pam being both somewhat aware and in total denial about Jim’s feelings for her with her noticing the blushing but also writing it off as nothing.

NLM - You are so creative- in all you do, the writing and the art and even the way you make this site so engaging and welcoming and fun.
As most I'm not a fan of Roy's but I felt so happy for them both here and I could just sense Pam's excitement in the moment. I kinda can't believe Roy was smart enough to pull the ruse of he fallen knife but I'll buy it.
Anyway, I just read someone's blog about how even the beloved and well-read writers still crave the reviews and comments and so I felt the need to drop you one.
Love this already and while it may take a while to read all the chapters I am excited to do so.
Author's Response: Much belated response but thank you for reviewing. You are right, getting a notice of a new review almost always instantly lifts my mood, especially on older fics! Yes, in light of those new superfan episodes where Pam says Roy proposed via newspaper ad with as few words as possible so it was cheapest, this proposal was pretty thoughtful and romantic (I did get the V-day proposal right though!) But I figured Pam’s desperately holding on to *some* kind of romantic, happy moment to justify staying with Roy so maybe they did have a nice proposal.

oh my god I'm gonna binge every chapter of this because I am totally OBSESSED. You're an awesome writer and this chapter especially really made me feel things.
Author's Response: Thank you! I have a soft spot for this chapter, early JAM was all about the sweetness and humor with the strong undercurrent of longing and I feel like this chapter really captured that if I may say so. Thanks for reading my little V-Day fic!

I've always loved the idea of Pam doing her own version of the teapot - you made it work so well!
Author's Response:
Yes I had fun coming up with items and imagining Jim’s reaction. Thanks!
