Yes, that was one hell of a cliffhanger!
I’m glad that you skipped over Roy’s lawyer’s
closing statement. I wish had an inkling of what’s
going to happen with the verdict, but there’s been
so much back and forth between accusations and blame, I really don’t know which direction you are going to take it. Either way, it’s good to see that no matter what happens, Pam knows she is free of Roy. Please update soon.

Murphy’s closing statement was very powerful,
and right on point, about how other women can become victims of Roy’s violence.
However, I can understand Pam’s doubts of Roy not being convicted. Roy’s lawyer is so slimy that
he would do anything to poke holes in Murphy’s
statement, to cause doubt in the jury.
At least Jim had the foresight to come up with
a plan to take Pam away in case things don’t
go their way.
I would love to see perhaps a chapter, or an epilogue, that takes place in the future where
we can see what has happened in JAM’s
life after the trial. Perhaps a C&P cameo.🤔
Yes, I have to admit that I would like to know
what could have happened to Roy, Kenny,
and even Karen, in the future as well.
You can call it morbid curiosity.
Lots of teapots for you.

After all this, it is extremely satisfying reading Murphy just tearing Roy's defense to shreds. Nice dramatic moment and some solid fan service, too. And of course Roy can't hold his temper even with years of his life on the line... how is anyone on the jury going to believe what he has to say?
And as always, I appreciate that you're acknowledging the fundamental inability of the justice system to address these wrongs - seeing Roy convicted will cost Pam so much, and it won't even begin to undo all the harm he's done. It's certainly not the end of the story, even if it's the end of our story.

Well done for Murphy painting such a clear narrative in his closing statement. Especially reminding the jury of the various outbursts Roy has had in the courtroom. I get why Pam is scared Roy will walk. In her experience Roy has never been held accountable for any of his actions, so why would that change now? Though considering how things have gone, I don't think there's any chance he'll get off.
Lots of big emotions with Pam, but it seems like she's able to deal with them a lot easier. Rather than the waves of some storm crashing over the sides of her boat and threatening to swamp it, the boat she's on cuts through them and continues on. The waves are still very much there, but she is managing the wave rather than being tossed by them. The reason I say that is because she admits she feels safe with Jim. It feels like it's been a long time since she's felt safe, so for her to admit that shows the kind of progress she's made.
As for what I would like to see going forward. Roy being locked away forever is of course number one. Roy's mother being read the riot act by everyone who cares for Pam would be another thing. However this is of course your story and you're free to write it as you will. Nice job as always.

I'm glad you worked in Betsy here... feels like Pam is going to need that sort of broad based support system moving forward.

Started out with a bit more of the same, though with some bits of confidence coming through. However in comes Betsy with some motherly wisdom. Beautiful conversation there between her and Pam. I don't blame Pam for wanting to keep that conversation between them.
Then she finally has finds the courage to really be honest with Jim. And it pays off. At long last they're them. The fun loving Jim and Pam who are madly in love with each other. Beautiful, simply beautiful.

You don’t give yourself enough credit
because this was a good chapter.
It’s seems as though Pam was having a panic attack that actually helped her have
a breakthrough.
It was like once she made it through the attack she knew that she was going to be okay,
no matter what happens with Roy.

Hard chapter to read, and I mean that in a good way. I thought you did really well exploring just how at the end of her rope Pam is, and the puzzle pieces coming together for Jim.
Date: November 08, 2021 06:48 pm Title: Chapter 47
Really liked Jim here. He doesn't know what to do so he's scrambling as much as she is. Trying to do anything to break the cycle of panic she's got going. I could feel his dread, anxiety, and worry waiting for the ambulance.
Speaking of that, nice job with the paramedics. You got the medicine right. A lot of that is exactly what I've done many times on similar calls. Check vitals, cardiac monitor, 12 lead ECG, even mentioned about slowing her breathing down to get her CO2 back under control. Well done!
Feels like the medics were able to give her the break she needed. To break out of the loop her mind was stuck in. And when she does break out of it, she reaches back for Jim. Loved that. You say this chapter fought you. You came out on top. This one was great. Wish I had a jellybean left to give this one.

Absolutely nothing wrong with this chapter. You conveyed Pam’s alarm and distress extremely well, and Jim’s seeming hopelessness that he can’t help her. Really well written!

Oooof. Brutal note to end this one on. I think the digging into Pam's trauma and the ways in which the trial isn't going to represent some sort of final victory over it is a good choice - there's not a way to end this story neatly and tie up all the loose ends, and they're going to have to come to grips with that.

This is a fantastic chapter. I think a lot of us have gone down the proverbial rabbit whole, I can understand Pam feeling that way.
I hope you made it out of your own hole safely and stronger for it. I can’t wait to read more

Bah! Well now you pulled me back in. Hope it's not too long a wait to read the next part. Thanks for coming back to this one. :)

Oh my word! What a cliffhanger! Very well written as always, so much pathos. Let’s hope Pam’s reached her nadir and it’s all up from here on in!
Date: October 18, 2021 08:41 pm Title: Chapter 46
What is happening with Pam?!
Is her mental/emotional trauma causing
her to become catatonic?
Roy’s mom is a nasty bitch!
It’s no wonder Roy is so messed up.
At least Helene’s testimony wasn’t too damaging to Pam’s case.
I have to admit that I’m nervous about
Roy not being convicted by the jury.
Also what is going on at the office while
the trial is going on?
Did the rest of the DM characters find out
what has been happening?
Please update soon!

This feels like a very real response to the trauma Pam has endured. Especially with having to re-live it all in court. She's going through a lot of peaks and valleys to be sure. Some are worse than others and clearly this one is a lot worse. Especially in the loop of thinking she's in right now. She spent years being conditioned to think those things. It makes sense that it would take as long if not longer to heal from those wounds. But however dark it is for her right now, she has a support system that is there for her.
Really liked that Jim and the Beeslys closed ranks around Pam with Roy's mom showed up. You could tell she wanted to do more, but her cowards heart showed its colors when faced with the bravery of Jim and Pam's family. Nice to have that bright spot in a dark chapter.

Aigh! You can't leave us on this cliff hanger! Sad face!!!
Ooo Roy's mom makes me so angry. I would have loved to see her get hauled off and put behind bars 🤭
Pam is actually not responsive to Jim now? Oh this is not good. It's gonna be OK soon, Pam! Jim's gonna take good care of you, you'll see!
You've got me hooked and I can't wait for more. Loving this story 💕

This was quite heartbreaking and from what I understand of DV victims, sadly not uncommon. Very delicately handled, nice writing.

Oh this was a little difficult to read. I had to slow myself down and really break down just WHY Pam reacted to Jim the way she did in the bathroom. You'll be OK, Pam. Just you wait and see. Jim will always take good care of you and Roy? Well, he's gonna get just exactly what he deserves and I cannot wait to see that happen!
I've been sitting on the edge of my seat with this story, especially as of the last 6 chapters or so. The best part is coming soon 😁

Still some rough seas to sail as we're nearing what feels like the end of the trial. It kind of feels like we're through the worst of the storm, but there's still heavy wind and waves to get through before it all calms down. Makes sense that there would be some old feelings dredged up from the deeps. However Pam has someone with her at the helm now. She also has a stronger boat to take on the wind and waves. While the storm may be giving her boat a lashing and maybe toss a few things around on deck, she's staying afloat. A lot of that is thanks to Jim being there with her right through the thick of it. She may not be sure of their course, but with Jim they're still making headway to the safety of the harbor. Hold on just a bit longer Pam and the lighthouse will be in sight to guide you to safety. Then you'll be able to patch up the sails and head out to sea once more. However this time knowing that you can weather any storm life throws your way, especially with Jim there with you at the wheel.
P.S. I just got done watching a series on Nat Geo about hurricanes, thus all the nautical imagry is fresh in my mind. Hope you don't mind to much.

Still absolutely gripping. Great work.

I had a feeling that Roy was from an
abusive childhood.
It was because he thought that what he did to Pam as more of a punishment, which in his mind she brought on herself.
Plus in Pam’s memory Roy was saying that
she is just like all the other girls he had been
with, so there is a clear pattern of abuse
with Roy, and Pam wasn’t the only girl he hurt.
Unfortunately the in typical abuser fashion,
Roy is trying to make himself the victim, and there could be people on the jury that would agree.
I can understand why Pam would lie about going to Penny’s parties. Roy didn’t like Penny because she didn’t think he walked on water, like the parents did, so he tried to isolate the two sisters.
Roy talking about Jim’s pranks was pretty funny, even though it didn’t put Jim in the best light.
Date: September 21, 2021 01:26 pm Title: Chapter 44
You've continued to do really well here digging into Pam's fear, and how much it persists even in this context - publicly, when there's security and they're physically and emotionally separated. Her scars come through clearly.
Date: September 21, 2021 10:02 am Title: Chapter 44
The thing I got out of this chapter is that Roy, in his inept attempts to defend himself, just gave the prosecution a huge gift. He admitted he came from an abusive family. Abused people often go on to become abusers. Add to his prevoius outbursts, I think any chance he has of aquittal is in the toilet at this point. Lock him up and throw away the key if you ask me.
Gotta feel for Pam. She's assaulted by memory after memory here. Makes sense some doubt and second-guessing would worm their way back in. But she also has other memories now too. Memories of Jim holding her and keeping her safe. Nice job with that part.
Date: September 06, 2021 09:16 am Title: Chapter 43
I think you did a good job acknowledging both the way in which this whole experience is re-traumatizing Pam and the progress she's made in being angry at Roy here.
