Great job here. We didn't get to see the immediate aftermath of the fire drill, but this makes complete sense. You got the characterizations down great too.
Dwight's pompous air that this was all for their own good and no one really got hurt because it was just a drill was right there.
Michael with the excellent come back line. Also great becasuse he actually thought Stanley's heart stopped. Hearts don't stop beating in a heart attack, but that's the paramedic side of me being pedantic, but Micheal wouldn't know that so him jumping to the worst possible conclusion was spot on.
How everyone dealt with getting out of work early was also really good. I can totally see them all doing that.
Jim and Pam rounding on Dwight on their way out the door and in the parking lot was excellent.
Great that they can have some time alone in their bedroom to decompress as well. Especially telling each other about some of their fears.
Really good job with this one.

Okay, complete transparency: I had NO idea about the heart thing. Given Michael that's just flat-out serendipitous. Appreciate the clarification!
I think it's thanks to NGU but I love writing the rest of the cast. They're all distinct and well-defined, even if some of them are one-note. And of course Dwight would be a total douche about it, especially considering the meeting with David and the other employee RIGHT afterwards.
JAM was especially fun to write, because in the clip we see both their genuine fear and Jim's complete exasperation that it was all just a test. Their relationship is still fairly young and the thought of losing that after so long just hit them like a train. And usually they can shrug off Dwight and his tendencies, but nah. They'd be pissed as hell.
Thanks for the review!

I am always on board for Stress Relief cold open fic, and you've added some real fun to the hilarity. Michael's "fullest ascent" line is great, and Dwight insisting on finishing the workday and continuing to lecture everyone is perfect. (I also love that Jim and Pam know Dwight well enough to know that this was about the PowerPoint, and Jim knowing what the Kobayashi Maru was.) Well done!
(BTW, the only other fic I can think of covering this incident is JennaBennett's Slow Dancing in a Burning Room, which moves it to Season 3 and lets Jim and Pam react accordingly.)
Author's Response:
Thanks! I really enjoyed this one. It was a lot of fun to try and rationalize both how real and how hysterical this situation was for all parties involved. Jim's a sci-fi nerd, there's no denying that, and I would like to think that the PowerPoint would have gone for an hour if Michael didn't stop it 15 minutes in out of boredom.
(I forgot about that one, I need to give that a read!)
Thanks for the review!
