Ah finally! Some nice open communication from the two of them. I'm kind of glad Jim didn't let her off the hook here. Granted he was mostly gentle about it, but he had the right to tell her that she made a rash decision without even giving him a chance to talk to her about it. I'm glad she was open to listening to him though.

And it seems like the little break the little break they had helped him to focus on what's really important. Not just the amount of money in his paycheck but the people who make life worthwhile. Thank goodness for Lewis and his moment of courage. Once that kid is ungrounded he probably deserves something nice.

And of course now Jim and Pam are back together again. Very touching scene as she's the one to re-initiate contact and it builds to a very sweet kiss. Bravo.

Kinda feels like we're about to wrap this one up. Looking forward to seeing how that all pans out.

I'm so glad this is back!! I love this divergent canon story and oh the feels when you used Pam's canon dialogue from casino night... ahhhhhh!! I don't know why Pam is so afraid that she isn't enough for Jim when he's clearly told her she is... but I also don't understand why Jim wasn't up front with her about the contract either. Hmmm sounds like canon issues, doesn't it?!

Jim is definitely father material here in this chapter, making sure Pam knows Lewis is safe and also, what a great job Pam has done in raising kids who are this empathetic! On the other hand, they've unfortunately been in situations that are making them act as tiny adults, which is also sad.

Can't wait to see what Pam has to say when Jim brings Lewis home! And I'm very glad Jim did not drive Lewis home under the influence. Just another great example on how Jim is all in for Pam--and her boys. Thanks for this great story!

I'm trying to navigate Jimm and Pam's canon issues, as you put it, with the fact that over 15 years have passed and they are both different people. 

About the kids having to be like tiny adults... at some point I considered bringing Roy into the scene and show those dynamics, but it doesn't really add to this story. But yeah, as I see it, these kids have seen their mom go through a lot, and some of it has affected their behaviours.

Next chapter is on its way, hold on tight! 

Great to be getting back to this one. Love that Jim and Pam are really starting to build something here. However the distance and everything with his job is something that's still causing anxiety. Which makes sense.

What I also love is that Jim is doing his best to be clear with her. He wants to be involved with her and wants her to trust him. Feels like he's giving her every reason to as well. Now she finds the paperwork with the move to Austin and it's not signed. Clearly he's waiting for something there. Hopefully we'll find out in the next chapter.

At this point, I think, Jim has the whole thing more or less figured out, but Pam is not there yet. She has doubts, and much more to lose than him.

wow, interesting turn of events. I was imagining some sort of misunderstanding between the two, which they would eventually work out, but not Pam running off without explanation. Good thing she has a son who cares about her. I look forward to the next meeting between Jim and Pam.

Author's Response: Thanks so much! I was wondering while writing this how much of the "old Pam" should I keep and how much could've changed after more than 15 years, two kids and a divorce. But I guess the misscomunication problems would still be there, which is why she just leaves. She had been hurt before and she doesn't want to feel that again.

I never thought I would read a new chapter of this story -one of my favorites, by the way- again. In fact I had already downloaded it as if the story was already complete, to reread it from time to time. So thank you for this unexpected gift.
I feel that Pam is going to have to decide a lot of things soon that will change her life completely. Or will Jim be the one to do it?. I look forward to the next chapter.

Getting reacquainted with this one so I can get to your latest update. Really love your Pam Dwight friendship here.
PLus I'm always up for a trip down memory lane.

Love that Angela even offered to babysit.

Even though it was Angela and Dwight, it was nice that after Jim was gone she wasn't alone.

Really excited to get an update! So much in this chapter to digest. Pam feels a bit surprised by and out of place in Jim's world which is understandable. She has only spent time with "casual Jim". I hope she is right, that "Jim was Jim. No matter where he happened to be."

I think it would be difficult for Pam and the boys to move to Philly. She has a support system and they're at that age where friendships are important. Her job may not be high-profile, like his is, but she loves it, it's important to her and something she sacrificed to achieve.

Time will tell if it is too difficult for Jim to permanently return to Scranton. It sounds as if he may be realizing spending time with his family as well as Pam's is where his heart lies.

It's swoon-worthy to find that the love they had for each other has remained through everything else.

Just reread this for the third(?) time. It's a wonderful story and damn it future Pam and Jim deserve some happiness. Pam's trajectory is so believable and the way they got pulled back into each other's orbits as well. I hope to see an update soon!
