I can see this as very plausible. Jim realizing he doesn't want to be manager, figuring out something on his own, and trying to not worry Pam about it by keeping it close to his chest which of course makes her worried. Feels very in character for him. Likewise Pam reassuring him that they're a team and it's best to be honest with her.
The rest of the cast is great too. Michael thinking he knows what he wants but actually wanting to stay in charge. Oscar being snarky. Erin being adorably socially awkward. Ryan looking like a deer caught in the headlights. Even Dwight being oddly supportive of this decision. Nice touches all around.
Good job with this one.

Much appreciated! Something I do actually love about S9 was that shift in Jim and Pam's dynamic, with him wanting more and her wanting them to be honest with each other, and I figured it'd be fun to see how this shift would have played out a few years earlier and with a lot less needless angst.
As I've mentioned, I love this cast and love writing them, and this was no exception. I'm glad you appreciate the Ryan bit, the realization of Jim somehow surpassing him even further hitting him like a truck was a fun touch to add.
Thanks for the review!

Interesting! And there a lot of fun little character details here - Pam's immediate frustration with Toby, Erin's oh-so-subtle attempt to keep quiet, Michael claiming credit for a plan that he didn't have anything to do with. And Jim trying to bond with Weirdo Gabe was definitely a scene I could on screen.
Welcome back!

Thanks, good to be back! I really love playing around with character interactions like these, it's so fun to write them play off each other. And I am proud of Jim and Gabe's back and forth, those two never really got along and this could be one of the reasons why.

This was a very sweet retelling of the episode.
Loved Pam figuring out what Jim had been up to all day. And it was so cute how Jim wants to provide for and protect his family, but Pam wants to be a team 😍
Nice job!
Author's Response:
Thank you! Yeah, I figured those would be the two's personalities considering that's what the later seasons focused on: him wanting more and her wanting to be a team. I'm glad that came through.
