Makes a lot of sense that Jim would get into his head about everything. He's trying very hard to be an anti-Roy and then he goes and does that. Considering it's a first for him I get why he'd be so concerned. Good thing Pam is there to help him wade through all those feelings.
Then he's right there to help her wade through a few more of hers. Even better now that they're doing a better job of communicating they come up with their little system. Fun for now and fun for later. Shows that true intimacy means good communication. When they can be so open with each other the rewards are boundless.
Author's Response: Open, honest communication and genuine connection form excellent foundations for consent and support of one another. That’s what this whole story is all about!

So Jim finds a new side to himself here. He may not think of himself as the kind of brutish masculine only thinking with his lower parts kind of guy, but it's clearly in there. Probably is for most guys to some degree. Makes sense that if he's never gone down that road he'd feel a bit off about it. However Pam's right there to assure him his display of masculinity was more than welcome. Doesn't have to happen all the time, but from time to time Jim it's okay to just let the caveman energy flow and go for it.
More than that though, they're doing a much better job communicating here. Always a great thing to see.
Hot as hell too.
Author's Response:
The side Jim found is something that many people do experience, particularly during pregnancy. Same type of 'inner strength' that you hear "so and so lifted a car off their kid"...being suddenly connected to our own base animal tendencies (because even though we have higher thought, humans are mammalian animals on the planet) and I felt this would have pushed Jim to a very different mental space than he has been before. When it is consensual, it is hot as hell! :)

I can see why that feeling is strange for Jim, because it’s definitely not something he truly seems to embody— so I’m glad Pam encouraged him to think about it and get back to her when he’s sorted through his feelings. It’s good that see that this is a good exercise for both of them. So sweet to end in a bath with Pam and baby in Jim’s arms— who wouldn’t want that?
Author's Response: I loved the ending, him wrapping up (literally) all that he loved and that it was all he wanted after what he felt. Playing off of the virility space many experience while their partner is pregnant, that also can feel JUST a foreign to them as the ramped up sex drive can for the pregnant partner.

Glad that its not only Pam who is feeling able to communicate more openly but also Jim feeling able to do so here. Hopefully once he has processed how he felt he will be able to relate that to Pam's experience.
Author's Response: 100% there will be an excellent conversation to be had! I am enjoying writing the process!

I'm glad they're both communicating better now! Hope they keep it up when they get home!
Author's Response: They absolutely will! Lots of good stuff to come between them!
Date: April 01, 2023 02:48 pm Title: Jinx
Hopefully no one is in that next room… or they’re certainly getting an earful! I love that they are getting the hang of communicating… will be so much better even when they check out! Sweet game of Jinx too… the rules are unflinchingly rigid… and I love that Pam picked up on “get” and not necessarily “buy”… clever girl!
Author's Response:
In my head canon they were between check out and check in… so I hoped no one was in that room either LOL!!!
I am having SOO much fun writing that series, but this week got caught in a storm for ‘Everything’ and so this one got no update. Soon though!! We have more purchases to have fun with!
Date: March 27, 2023 04:44 pm Title: Jinx
Probably the most sexy game of jinx they've ever had. Love that they can recall some line from the previous time but with completely new context this time around. Then to end it with a Hi/Hey was the perfect cherry on top.
Author's Response: YAY! Glad I captured the fun of jinx and brought it to a new place d84;a039;

All I can think of is patience is a virtue and one it seems Jim has learned well.
Author's Response: Hehehe…. Yes, yes he has ;)
Date: March 19, 2023 07:53 pm Title: Magic
So, clearly they made excellent use of at least this purchase. Feels like that itch that's been escaping her has gotten some attention at long last. Even better that Jim is right there with her to help release all that tension. And he's so delicate with the aftercare how could she not just melt into him. Lovely scene for sure.
Author's Response: 🥰yes, more fun with other purchases to come! But I loved the intensity of the situation combined with the sweetness after d84;a039;

Yeah the kid stands a chance. I know when my wife was pregnant with our first kid we had a lot of those same worries. We still do. So in that regard well done for getting into some real feelings.
I also applaud Jim here. Insanity is doing the same thing over and expecting a different result. So he goes for a different tack and it seems to work better. At least Pam doesn't retreat into a little shell. Really like that Pam is doing her abject best to listen to him too. It shows they do have a trusting relationship and I always love reading that. Great job.
Author's Response: I am so glad I nailed that and created true moments!
Date: March 19, 2023 07:31 pm Title: Morning
Now that's the definition of a nice morning! I really like that Jim's coming to the realization there's a lot more going on in her mind. That he wants to expunge any lingering negative thoughts shows his character. Feels like Pam's believing more and more that it's ok to let him in and drive those anxieties away. And of course fun in the shower is always a nice way to get closer together.
Author's Response: Yes, very much this is playing on both historical non-communication in addition to pregnancy anxieties… they start to figure things out.
Date: March 19, 2023 07:24 pm Title: Closer
Love how Jim takes care of her here. First in the car to try and ease away her anxieties. Then is just ready and up for anything she's ready for. Feels like he's rediscovering her a bit there too. No wonder it all came together so well. Amazing what happens when they're more open with each other. Great chapter.
Author's Response: Thanks! Hoping I blend the communication = consent and how wonderful it can be when they blend!

I have to ask, do you see your Jim in this story as the one in canon with the baby books?? I’m sure Jam were definitely reading them together in canon— but I’m wondering what your Jam has done so far in terms of “preparedness” for baby. On the other hand, bringing home a tiny human is pretty damn daunting! I’m glad Jim let the solution be theirs— and it sounds like a good one! I hope Pam leaves this little getaway having helped to satisfy some of her frustrations— seems like she and Jim are doing that preeeeeetty well, thanks to Morgan— so that they can concentrate on the bigger issue of her insecurities and their impending parenthood!
Author's Response:
OH MY GOODNESS, is there canon about that already??? Legit keep finding more hidden clips, and I have watched so many times but am completely not recalling it as part of canon!
The getaway is absolutely going to help ease tension and we are moving towards super ease in insecurity!

Oooh. Pam’s concerns and her previous learned habits from Roy seem to be a lot bigger than Jim anticipated… but I believe they can work this out! I love how good Jim is at reading her… and I think it’s a great idea to write out her worries on paper. I still remember my mom making me do this when I had a panic attack the weekend before starting my accelerated nursing program. I kept that list and going back to it occasionally, it’s crazy what I thought I would fail at, or what would stop me!! It’s been 12 years since I graduated in May— it’s really a powerful activity thought to put those fears somewhere other than your mind. I’m glad they’re talking and keeping this conversation going!
Author's Response:
AWESOME! I am so glad writing helped! I used a lot of the skills I share with my clients to ease anxiety & panic.

I'm glad that Pam had a sound night's sleep and that Jim had a sweet solo moment with their baby. You talk so lovingly about their little person and it's so clear how much this baby together means to them both. You do sweet and kind and romantic just as well as spicy--and yes, I agree with Jim, today is going to be a good day!
Author's Response:
Thank you, that was one thing I was not going to mess with at all…that they were both very excited and wanting of the baby.
I want a good blend of sweet and spicy, glad it works!
Date: March 11, 2023 03:36 pm Title: Closer
Jim’s really looking after her well here 😉
The use of the song was clever, and good advice from Morgan!
Seems like Roy really did a number on Pam, but I really hope by the end of this he’s going to be long forgotten!
Author's Response: :) yes, there will be a lot of talking in the next chapters, mixed with spicy time of course.. but there will be a whole lot of healing-in-relationship stuff that happens to help close Roy out of her mind.

I’m so glad Jim and Pam are getting this time to connect. It’s amazing how you go from super sweet Jim feeling the baby move in Pam’s belly to super sexy in no time! Jim is so very thoughtful, bringing Pam’s favorite nightgown, really listening to Morgan’s advice, and truly listening to Pam about her needs— and encouraging her to communicate them to him. Hopefully after this little hotel stay Pam will be waking Jim up when baby Halpert is keeping her up! So glad he’s getting through to her. I can’t wait to see how you write their eventual transition to parenthood. Thanks for sharing!!
Author's Response: Thank you so much!

Honestly, I’ve had 2 kids and I learned some useful stuff reading this chapter! Not only well written but a public education service as well! Nice work!
Author's Response: Hehehe…. My pleasure!! Sharing a wealth of wonderful knowledge in this from lovely midwife friends!

First of all the fact that her relationship with Roy has such long lasting effects hurts and at the same time makes sense. She was with him for a long time, thus it would take a while for new patterns of thought to really cement in place.
Their old nemesis of miscommunication strikes again. Though this time it's a new variation as if feels like they don't even know how to communicate what they need even if they could.
Very fortunate that they ran into Morgan who was so open about everything. Feels like just what they need too. Someone to cut through the BS, get to the heart of the problem, and find some practical solutions. Nice job there. Feels like they'll get good use out of Morgan's advice too.
Author's Response:
Oh yes, loveliness from suggestions will be had in the next chapter!
Morgan is a little share from my own past, had a really awesome conversation with another open-minded human in a sex shop myself years ago! No idea where she may be in life now, but hope she is just as wonderful as she was that night!

I love the way you write Jim in this… in canon, he is very quick to jump into fix it all with a “big Jim gesture”— which he also has been doing prior to your AU story too— but now he knows that he needs to be quiet, supportive, and just wait for Pam to find the words and the courage. I love his quiet drawing on Pam’s thigh just patiently waiting for her to tell him.. and the way you repeat the infinity sign later in the story too is ahhh!!! I also like that Jim backs down after Pam calls him on his smile after telling him how she’s been feeling— this IS better communication!!
Author's Response:
Awwww thanks!!!!
i am trying to walk a fine line between keeping to late 2000’s mental health knowledge and what Jim *may* have had access to in thinking how to learn more with Pam. Plus, I am hard core that Roy was worse and did way more damage than the show would have shown. I like the full in fics others have offered following Casino Night where Pam really has a hard time figuring out how to extricate herself from Roy and apprehension in accepting someone would love her like that.

Not the first time a similar backstory has been penned for Roy and Pam and probably won't be the last. Appreciate the warning and treading lightly with it though.
Nice that Pam can finally let some of those thoughts out. Clearly she's in a headspace she's very not used to. Thinking of things she normally wouldn't and so yeah it's unnerving. Nice that Jim knows her well enough to let her talk and get things out. Then also knows her well enough to be there in other ways for her.
Author's Response: Thanks! No plans to go heavy-handed with the past stuff, but feel it kind of needs to be there ♥a039;

Wow! What a first chapter! Im excited to see where this is going… this is such an interesting time in Jim and Pam’s life… and it’s so understandable that Jim is trying to be too nice, or not impose on Pam— and then they’re not communicating. As embarrassing as that was for Jim to walk in on Pam, hopefully this leads to them shedding more light on how they can fix their situation! I adore how he just wraps crying Pam up his arms and implores her to talk to him… and calls her ‘love’… my fave! So excited to read more!!
Author's Response: THANK YOU! I am working on Chapter 3 now, blending in a lot I hope works well for everyone :)

Just because communication can be hard doesn't mean that it's impossible. Also Jim usually has naturally good instincts for Pam. That shows up well here. While he can't get the specifics without her talking to him, he can get a general idea that gets them going in the right direction. Well done Jim.
The lead up and the scene in the rest stop though...smokin' hot.
Author's Response: Thank you! Yes, I am heading somewhere for Pam around communicating because Jim is very good at paying attention to the unsaid.

First off welcome to MTT and well done for posting your first story. That's one helluva way to start too. Pregnant Pam with all those feelings and emotions flooding through her. Nice use of mental imagery to convey it all. The other thing you brought in is one of the things I've felt was always a challenge in Jim and Pam's relationship. Real open communication. In the show it seemed their biggest issues always came about because they didn't really explain their true feelings until everything exploded. This very much feels in the same vein.
So Pam's outburst at the end there makes total sense and not just because she's also got tons of pregnancy hormones raging through her system as well. Nice job.
Author's Response: Thanks!!!! I hope you enjoy what I have coming for the next chapters… intrusive thoughts is a big part of it all, anxious barriers to healthy communication ♥a039;

Can't wait to find out where Jim is taking them!
Author's Response:
Working on it now! 😊♥a039;
