Even from the start he knew she's be great as a mom. Love that he could see it even early on like this. I'm sure at the time the thought that she'd be the mother of his kids seemed like a pipe dream. Later I'm sure it was a fond memory for him. Nice little stroll down memory lane for him.

Nice bit of self reflection here on Jim's part. He wants to be part of his family but is having a hard time figuring out where he fits. This almost feels like the night after their parking lot kiss where he doesn't go to Philly. His eyes are really open to what he's missed and it's killing him a bit. At the same time he knows what's really important so he'll be here for them from now on.

This is perfection! I love the way you laid out these images of Pam as mom in this order... it just worked showing the development over the years. This is such a sweet behind the scenes moment of the famous drug store scene... of course Jim can tell that something's up. And girl, the LAST SENTENCE???!!! OMG! I love the idea that Jim sees this now, because there's gonna be a lot of heartbreak before we get to "The Job"--but he sees this, and knows this, now. Already. So good. Jim’s sharing Athleap perks but he’s definitely reaping the benefits! I love how you work in such sweet little details like the midweek dinner dates, slow mornings, and the weekend getaway. Just expands on the richness and sweetness and spiciness of their relationship! You can just see them lingering over some cocktails midweek in a hip Austin eatery… thanks Jim’s parents!!
And just your sweet little amount of naughty Jim— very restrained yet everything!! Visible bra straps are soooo tacky Jim, okay? It’s just not always about you… though I’m sure Pam thought of you with this wardrobe choice. I love how she gets him back with her “no panties” remark— serves him right— and sooo funny! Their banter is EVERYTHING! Everything about Jam in this short little peek on their post Austin life is perfection— their sassy, sexy, familiarity is perfect. Just one question you didn’t answer. Is this beardy Jim?? Cause you know it’s all about the beard. Even if it’s 90. But I do defer to the author’s preference. Loved this!!

And then, just like that, your tore our heart in pieces remembering That Time which shall not be mentioned… oh the cringe. And what made this even more sad is that Jim wasn’t in Philly— he was in this room, he was in this scene, physically— so what a blow to realize his little family had gotten used to him NOT being their either emotionally or physically. I do love that he DOES recognize the signs of fatigue in her eyes, because I think in this moment, he could really go inside himself and make this about his sadness— but he is getting the moment to see how it’s affecting her too— and that it’s crucial to fix it. What a contrast from Soccer Mom! I’m sure this scene sobered Jim into realizing that he had to fix this immediately— and clearly he did. Thank God! Great angst without dialogue. So good lady!!!

MrsK, you are just on fire lately!! This is just so excellent, even if it’s not my birthday gift! Also, happy birthday YB! You just dove right in, set up this scene filled with details and love and emotions and it was perfect! I love that even in this mundane busy world of two active children (maybe more, it is your AU!) and work and coaching soccer Jim is still absolutely distracted by his beautiful wife. Both physically and emotionally— and that’s why we fell in love with them. I totally see her doing this with Cece too— just screaming at the top of her lungs encouraging her! And that line— ‘she was nothing liked what he imagined the mother of his children to be— she was so much more.’ Girl! Come on! Loved it!
