I'm so glad you expanded on the Jim/Karen derailment here -- the Booze Cruise comparison was brilliant! And this is so well written that I'll take the angst (for a little while, anyway).
And I love this thought from Pam: She’d always hated the concept of irony.

So long, farewell, auf Wiedersehen, goodbye. It was nice knowing you Karen, but I am in a SERIOUS funk and I need a little Jam loving. Great story (as always).

Okay, any story that begins by quoting Sarah McLachlan has me hooked from the start. I also really like how Jim struggled with memories of Pam because I think that's the way it would be in any rebound-relationship. Can't wait for the next chapter.

How do you do it? This is exactly how I pictured the two of them feeling. Thank you so much from the bottom of my Jam-frustrated heart!
I love the callback to the Dundies and all the parallels between what Jim and Pam said to Karen. It just makes your story read so authentic. Great interpretation!

Yeesh. I really, really like Karen, so as much as I adore JAM, this made me feel very bad. But I like that she genuinely got along with Pam because they seem like the kind of people who would get along; ordinary and nice and funny and warm. Hmm.
Oh, well; after that episode I'm all for happy endings, so can't wait for more!!

As much as it pains me to say it, you did a great job describing Jim coming to the realization that a relationship with Karen was something to go for.

"Never once did it even occur to her that it might be too late" - Poor naive Pam (and the rest of us 'shippers whose heart was saddened last Thursday.)

i turned on the song... good one. YAY JIM! I'm so glad that "second drink" got him! god Karen, what are you thinking? ha.

oh man...as much as the idea of Karen and Jim skeeves me out, it's just one of those things where you just know that John Krasinski has chemistry with like...wood. lol. But SO glad this is heading back to a JAM plan. :-) Thank goodness for all you writers knowing that this is our time of need. hehe

I've been thinking about this - A LOT more than I should be. :) I have such mixed emotions it's crazy.
I love that in your version Jim was the one to end things before it got all out of hand. I hope we get a nice mishmash of all these post-merger scenarios when it unfolds on the screen.
I'm going to hold my breath and try to enjoy the ride as this all transpires - but thanks so much for taking the time to wrap it all up quickly with (what I suspect) will be a pretty little bow. And btw - anyone who quotes Sarah McLachlan wins in my book. As a matter of fact - I think Hold On might sum up the Jim&Pam portion of The Merger almost perfectly. Hmmmm. Fanfic fodder. ;)

I *know* you're just the writer to give us the happy ending we so desperately need after Thursday's episode. I like where you're taking this...getting Karen out of the way in the best possible way, so Jim and Pam can work things out. I kinda hope Jim tells Karen it's all about Pam, though. It's not really fair to leave her in the dark about the whole situation.

such a mix of emotions, i'm happy that jim and karen broke up, but sad at the same time. good job!

Can I just 'ditto' all the other reviews? Kidding /Pam
I really like the idea that Jim and Karen have 'something' going on, but Jim is the one to put on the brakes, realizing it's still all about Pam. I hope the writers do something along these lines and soon! I am DEFINITELY on Team Beesley, but I don't think Karen should get hurt -- and I would hope that Jim has enough awareness of his own emotions to know it wouldn't be fair to Karen to try to use her as his band-aid. I really like how you incorporated dialogue from the show and added additional detail to what was going on inside the characters' heads.
And the Second Drink reference -- I LOVE that!!!!

I am liking this story. I thought you made the interactions between Jim and Karen very believable. I am actually surprised Jim didn't sleep with Karen, just to prove to himself he was over Pam. The characterization in general was good across the board. Looking forward to the conclusion! :) (Oh, and I love that Sarah McLachlan song, but really, Surfacing is such a great CD.)

YAY! DEATH TO KARIM!!!
I love this more and more as I keep reading..

Okay. He's attracted to Karen, likes her, in another circumstance maybe, but...in the end, it's still about Pam. Damn right.
Thanks for doing this - the way you frame it here gives me hope...now, if only the show writers didn't seem hell bent on prolonging the torture. Is it good comic TV when it becomes almost too painful to watch? Not so sure. Thank god there are stories like this to soothe the boo-boos! And lovely writing too - as usual!

*goes Darth Vader* NOOOOOOOOOOO
Ah, well. It was well-written, even if I don't agree with it. ;-)

Wow. That was an abrupt halt. I think I got whiplash.
Poor Karen.
Poor Jim. Poor Pam. Poor everyone involved.

Yeah, I hate Karen, so I love this fic.
Yes, I know it's completely irrational. But I'm Team Pam..and *sobs* I JUST CAN'T HELP IT!

i want more! :P this is great.

I like it. I really really like it. It makes so much sense...I think I may just believe this happened instead of the show. Because that episode just hurt a little too much. And people say I'm too attatched to fictional characters...psh.
Author's Response:
What's that? Too attached to fictional characters? I wouldn't know a thing about that....
Thanks for the review!

Love it! All of you stories are amazing and this is no exception. More please, and soon. This is so realistic, and you are an INCREDIBLE writer.
Author's Response: Wow - thank you so much! I was really uncomfortable posting this one, because I just wrote it...so it's nice to have some positive feedback. Thanks again for taking the time to review!
