This is a great account of what happened after that episode. I like how understated it is, not too over the top and very true to the show, and that map is just perfect!

"I'm your Pam".

Awwwww. That really got to me. This was a terrific story and I only wish there was more of it. Great job!

Oh, Susan,

I just read this wonderful story and every single review because I can't believe that I missed this before.  How did this happen? I have no idea because the title definitely sounded familiar.  Possible reasons:

a. I'm a loser.

b. I was deluged in fdf's after the finale and somehow this slipped by my radar.

But anyway, it's a win-win-win for me now, because I got to enjoy it in its entirety.

What a gorgeous story.  Your characterizations are perfect and I can easily picture them speaking the words.  And of course, we love getting into Halpert's thought process.  You're a great writer.  This just made me sigh:

In his neck and shoulders Jim could sense the fear, the anger, and the sadness that had felt so much a part of him starting to loosen. For the first time in a very long time, he felt like he could just sit that heavy burden down.

How true.  And hopefully, in just a few short weeks, with Pam by his side, we'll get to see a more relaxed and happy Jim Halpert.

You rule.  And so does Smiley!Jim.

Yay! Go Team Pam! I love how you wrote her in this chapter.

Makes sense that he would have fallen asleep after the day he'd had.

You've really captured their chemistry so well. Great job!

Very good exploration of Jim's inner thoughts, especially in regards to his feelings about Karen.

Pam's map? So cute! Your reference section really adds to the story.

Great job!

Great start to this one. You deal with Karen much better than most people. This seemed like a very natural conversation for them to have.

Such amazing stuff, I'm in awe.

"Yeah, this isn’t awkward at all."
Totally Jim, and is part of his speechisms that I have picked up. Its was bad enough that I started talking like friends (I really pick up others speech habits), and now I say things like fictional characters.

And Pam repeats it!

I get that way sometimes like Pam. Of course, my stuff is just little photographs (heck even writings), and its like, I feel so strange its like, someone is complimenting me about this little dinky crap....
So, I think you have that nailed down with Pam's reaction. And Jim being as sweet as he is.

I do think (as much as I hated it), that this season was necessary for the development of Jim and Pam.

Mentioning Email Survellienve - my favorite Season 2 episodes gets you like.. schrute bucks galore.

“I’m your Pam.”  so great

"It was all part of his ten year plan. "
such a sweet last line.

"huggy-hugs" hehe I love The Injury :)

"Jim wasn’t a complainer though," No he isn't.... The Client, one of the best 20odd episodes of Season Two. Haha.

Pam's hairstyle sounds so pretty. I love faces that can pull of tendrils. My face can't. The only hairstyle that works well with my face is the messed up hair style. The "it was at one point a ponytail, but is now some sort of mess of brown stuff"

"showed something, but not everything." Is Pam channelling Kelly there? hehe

Haha! So cute - Jim left a dryer sheet on!!!

Aww, Jim fell asleep. That is cute and funny and great. Although, not the best start to the date... but realistic considering his day.

She has a playlist named Jim. I have a playlist named "Jammy".... haha, I didn't want to outright name it Jam.

Kiss me is a great song. I love that entire description of them dancing and stuff. All great.

I can't wait for the next chapter (yes, i know all i ahve to do is click next.

"He didn’t have to consciously distance himself because a part of him was just… not there."
Of course. And both him and Pam knew it.

I love Jim's expression in Beach Games, when Pam is making that speech. He is just like.... gah, his expression is just amazing.

Just reading that BG/TJ stuff over again... wow. I loved those bits.

"Then Jim walked back into her life." Great.

This is one of the first during Job fics that I remember reading. I have read plenty of post Job, and stuff... but as far as I remember, first during Job parts.

" “Hey,” she said, smiling, “How did your – er, how’s it going?” " Great Pam.

"she was going out on a date.
With Jim Halpert.
Wow. "
Wow is right!!!!!

That little map - so cute and great.
Pam doesn't live far from DM does she.

I haven't even started reading it yet, and I just had to tell you that I think "Officeverse" is all kinds of awesome.

This really shows the difference between Jim and Karen really well. And just that interaction of them in NY.

"Pam. Periwinkle. Pam. Smiling. Pam. Poker. Pam. Surprised. Pam. Can't? Pam. Phone. Pam. Kissing. Pam. No. Pam. Gone."
SO good!

I enjoy them breaking up (that sounds mean), and can't wait for the next chapter.

So glad you finished this! Such a sweet intimate feel to this chapter - love her thoughts while he looks at her drawings, her kissing him all over his face when he tears up, the dialogue, just the right touch of heat...and great last line. Really well done. Hope you'll write more.

I like the way you've written Karen in this breakup.  Other than the fact that there's a lot of swearing, which, obviously, is somewhat out of character just because they can't talk like that on NBC, I felt like she and Jim were very genuine in this chapter.  Excellent job!

OMG.  Wow.  WOW.  Now I get why you & Smiley!Jim icon love the kissing so much, because...damn.  Wow.  This: Right now,” he shifted anxiously trying to alleviate the tightness in his pants. Oooh… “this is the opposite of help. I’m not made out of wood here, you know?”

Unable to resist herself, Pam stole a glance briefly down in the direction of Jim’s lap. Her eyes returned quickly to his face, a smirking smile stretched across her lips, her eyebrow cocked.

“Not… made… entirely… of wood, Beesly.”

...absolutely killed me!  You have just nailed their voices here, and this story ran the gamut from the hilarious to the tender (their hugging & the tears totally gave me tears in MY eyes) to the hot.  Wow.

Don't mean to push, but...would you consider keeping this going?  Because it is just incredible, really.  And if you don't keep going with it, I am so totally looking forward to what you'll write next!

Author's Response: Aha! You have figured me and Smiley!Jim out!  We are SO busted.  Yes, we do enjoy the kissing.  It's just so romantic, you know?  I'm glad you liked this chapter, it was a lot of fun to write.  I just sat back and let Jim and Pam do the talking (and smooching - yay!) in my head.  That's weird, huh?  Yeah. I thought so. :-)!

It is so kind of you to say that this story should continue.  When I originally outlined it, it was less than three chapters, but as I was writing it just took on a life of its own.  I think this part of the story is done for now.  I mean, how many chapters filled with kissing could a person read?  Heh.  Seriously though, I sincerely appreciate your encouragement and your kind comments.  It means a lot.  Many, many thanks.

"She looked through the peephole to make sure that it was Jim and her heart soared when she saw him standing there. God, he looks so handsome."

Swear to god, when I read that I got that fluttery feeling in my belly -- you really capture that moment well; I could envision what it'd be like to look through the peep hole & see Jim Halpert, and...guh.

Love the image of him asleep on her chofa (that sounded dirty somehow), and their kitchen banter had me grinning.  Then I full-on gasped out loud when he found her "Jim" playlist -- and, uh, clearly I have a sick mind, because I immediately assumed the Beyonce song would be "Naughty Girl."  *snort*

This?
“I’m going to kiss you, okay?”

“Well, I wish you would.” Jim mouth turned up slightly in a very lopsided grin.

Oh holy god.  Listen, you and Smiley!Jim icon totally know how to do the kissing scenes.  Wow.  This has just been so much fun to read!  I'm kind of pathetically close to upset that there's just one chapter left...

Author's Response: Aw, thanks for such a sweet review.  It's sad I had to look up the Beyonce song you mentioned and then....fjlksdjlskdflk Uh... *giggle* You are a naughty one, girl7! Yay!  I'm so glad you're enjoying the story.

OMG.  Such amazing insight into Jim here:

When he and Karen were together, he had enjoyed her company very much, but mostly he felt like an observer, like he was watching his life going forward from the sidelines.  YES - I can totally see this.

A part of him just clicked off. He was numb, but the newness of everything in Stamford actually helped him to deal. He got up every day in his new apartment, breathed in and out, hid in new suits that were too large and wrote himself reminder notes to smile until it all just became habit. He didn’t have to consciously distance himself because a part of him was just… not there.

Another bit that just made my breath catch, because I really think it's spot-on (and it's a devastating glimpse into his psyche).

And this? The caption read, “I want you here.”

OMG OMG OMG OMG.  You have turned me into Kelly Kapoor, just like that.  OMG.

Loving this!!!!

Author's Response: I wished I could think of something more intelligent to say, but uh...OMG OMG OMG OMG. *squee*  Seriously though, thank you for such a kind, detailed review.  How'd you get to be so awesome? :-)!

First of all: So sorry it has taken me this long to leave you a proper review for this -- I have been stupidly busy and unable to read much fanfic at all.  (DAMN YOU real life!!!)  Second of all, I cannot believe this is your first attempt at writing fanfic!  Apparently Smiley!Jim icon must have some magic powers or something, because this is terrific -- the details at the beginning totally conjured the image of the city, and their conversation in the hotel room was so believable.  I also really like the way you've written Karen -- because I'd like to think she'd handle it this way.  I think she has it in her....

Okay, next chapter!  Wooo!

Author's Response:

Wow.  Great finish, Susan.

I hope Jim's apology/explanation is as gracious as what you've written: Look, I know that I’m an unfinished man. I’ve made mistakes, and not just with you, uh…and I know that I… that we… can’t go back and change things.”

Pam's response just capsulizes S3 for me: "But seriously, as painful at times as this whole experience has been, it was absolutely necessary.”

Nicely done, Susan M!

Author's Response: Thanks so much lisahoo!   The S3 pain and suffering may have been necessary, but it was still damn hard to sit through. Heh. Let the healing (and the smooching!) begin in S4.

I'm glad you enjoyed the story. It was fun to write.
