As sleep had finally come, he'd felt himself ripped from the earth like a small, helpless rodent, the ground receding incredibly fast beneath him.

Fantastic last sentence. Great image. Kind of says it all.

Just read your prior response : )  The world will never know...  Sex on the brain, especially your brain, is a good, good thing ; )  Go, Shass!  Go, Shass!  Is it a bad thing that I'm at work with MTT minimized on my screen while I "diligently" work.  Updates make me look very, very busy.  I'm shooting for a raise here...

Where to begin?  For lack of a better word, your style of writing is just so sensual.  You have a way of describing things, people, whatever, that is unlike any other (that I've come across at least).  How someone can go from the Marx Brothers to mermaids in one work just floors me.  I enjoy each update more than you'll know.  Keep going, sister!  Long or short, each chapter is equally delicious.

Oh, please continue! I'm so enraptured by the way you write, so elegant and ethereal. This story has my complete attention. I'm dying to know what's going to happen next. Very, very lovely work.

Poor Molly having to deal with Jim's thoughts of real-Pam instead of memory-Pam. Poor Fred missing his post-poop ritual. Poor Jim trying to avoid the inevitable.

Definitely something more going on here.  I loved "you can always count on Zoe to cut through the bullshit" and Jim impatiently tugging at the pooch, but the image of him in bed, crushed by his own guilt ("thought-crime" is brilliant!) is so well-done.

I'm completely sucked in now.  This is so good.  Is it possible that Pam's husband is "Roy" only in a lawyer's clothing?  Poor Pam, her life seems so sad here.

Author's Response: Yeah, I feel like she didn't quite get to where she wanted to go...Hubby's definitely an upgrade, but maybe not all that different from Roy in spirit. She may not have fully learned that lesson, and might think that since she blew it with Jim, she deserved what she got...? I'm kind of along for the ride, here.

Oh, no.  I'm getting the feeling there's more going on here than just an old girlfriend surfacing.

This is awesome.

ps-You're pretty much my hero for using the term 'clusterfuck'. :)

Author's Response: Thank you so much! And yes, "clusterfuck" is one of my very favorite expressions.

Keep um coming. No rest for you!

Author's Response: Haw. I'm trying to keep myself awake here. I have to pick up a friend at the airport at midnight! Thanks so much for reading and commenting!

"Good night," she whispers to the mirage, like she has every night for eight years. "I love you."  Sigh...... Oh Pam!

UGh....this is so delightfully painful and sad. Is there a word for something so heartwrenching that it's good? I bet the Germans have a word for it.

The imagery here is so wonderful and part of me is cheering for Jim and Pam to get together, but the other part wants them to just keep on living their lives with the angst because somehow that's more real.

Sigh.

Author's Response: Hey M, I'm having a hell of a time here, because I'm kind of just writing it down as it happens, you know? I don't think this one's going to have a happy ending. I'm not sure, but no matter what happens, some hearts are going to get shredded, I think. It might just be ours!

I swear, my stomach was flip-flopping from the angst as I read this. I must be a sadist masochist to keep reading because I like my Jim and Pam fluffy and happy - not heart wrenchingly married to other people (and Jim married to one who paints?).  But because I love your writing, I will perservere.

Author's Response: Thanks, Kay. I hope I manage to make it worth it. It might get bumpy...

I absolute love this story. I've been holding my breath through every chapter. One thing would be better....longer chapters...Oh wait, I'd faint from lack of oxygen if that happend. Oh, but it would be a sweet death.

Author's Response: I am so sorry about the staccato posting style here. Word's being wonky and I'm typing directly into the interface. Hopefully you'll enjoy it like this! Thanks so much for reading and commenting. It means the world to me.

Have to admit, I've always been a sucker for the (surprisingly little used) Jim/Pam marry other people, then run into each other years later premise...so this is right up my alley. You make Jim's distress so raw and vivid here - I can't wait to see where this goes.

Author's Response: Neither can I, honestly. I'm just kind of along for the ride, here. Thanks so much for reading and reviewing.

I love this story, just like I love all your others.  I'm on the edge of my seat!

Author's Response: Thank you so, so much. I really love the encouragement I get here, you have no idea...

"And when she starts to shudder her own tears into his chest, he lets her do that, too."

You write the most beautiful angst of all the angst. Seriously. I'm dying here. So heartbreakingly beautiful.

Author's Response: Oh, Kay, thank you so much. It really doesn't feel like I'm doing the work here, though. It just kind of...flows through.

"He looks down, swallows again, his imagination spiraling out of control, picturing what Molly's reaction will be when she discovers that her unmet old nemesis is suddenly among them."

I'm so relieved he didn't marry Karen. And I'm anxious to meet Molly and see why she put off marrying him for so long...

Author's Response: So am I!

Oh, Shass.  I'm teary-eyed.  This is so heart-breaking and lovely.  You make us wait, but then it's so worth it : )  You always manage a different spin on situations while staying competely in character.

Author's Response: Hi Nan! I hope to do a good job of simply listening to them this time. I have a big problem, though. Sex on the brain. Hee-heee. How many licks does it take to get to the center of a tootsie-pop?

I can tell already that this story is going to break my heart. My only consolation being that Jim married a Molly (that's my name!) and they have a Zoe (girl name I love).
I can't wait to see where this goes.

Author's Response: Neither can I! Really, it goes where it wants. I'm just trying to keep up. Thanks so much for reading and commenting!

I think my heart might be breaking, but you're breaking it so beautifully.  The little phrase "humiliated by his weakness for her" just killed me.  Can't wait for more.

Author's Response: Oh, I think it's gonna get tougher, I'm sorry to say. They're really off doing their thing in here. I'm just writing down what I see and hear and trying to keep up with them...Thanks so much for commenting.

Oh, so sad.  I love the idea of Michael being Mr. Mom, though.  That's just perfect for him.  And the Albright Knox!  I love the ide of them strolling through Delaware Park!

Author's Response: This really, really is such a great location. Not to mention, I really love it here. We moved here three years ago and I can't really see myself leaving.

I can't wait to read the rest, but I just had to say...they're in my hometown!  YAY!  Okay, on to chapter 2.

Author's Response: Well, I live there now! It seemed like the most natural unlikely place for them to run into each other, and it really is a great setting for a story...
