I have a soft spot for when one of them launches a scheme to get together, and I really like that you’ve given that scheme some solid justification – Jim being self-aware enough to know he can’t count on himself to get this done. Also, that Dwight is involved, being such a big part of their courtship.

And putting it on what both in canon and in the past has been a pretty terrible day for Pam is a really nice touch.

I also appreciate the work that coming up with all those messages must have been, and that you’re working in a Beatles reference. The Beatles are always worth referencing.

Author's Response: Thank you! I had a blast stuffing in details like that, so I'm glad you caught it :)

You would think it would get old, the Bob Vance, Vance Refrigeration jokes but I'm here to tell you that it did not. I laughed every single time. What a great touch!

I also love the whole exchange between Jim and Pam when he's admitting he broke up with Katy and she's mad that she didn't know yet. Just really great banter there.

"Don't mumble. Real salesmen speak their minds." THAT's a perfect Dwight-ism.

This whole set-up is so great, I was grinning the whole time, but I think my favorite part (besides Dwight's disdain for the simple acrostic) was that you had Pam invert the last two letters - something so pure, but delightful!

And she kissed him! It worked! And Dwight ships them! Comfect, this was so much fun to read start to finish -- it just hit all of the right notes for what I look for in a holiday fic. Great job!

Author's Response:

I am glad it didn't get old, because I did beat that particular drum a lot...

Thank you for the comments on the specific moments, I'm really glad they landed for you because I was really enjoying them myself.

And yes! Dwight as a JAM-shipper is a favorite of mine, it doesn't turn up too often in fics but I firmly believe beneath the grumpy exterior it's the truth. Thanks so much for reading, and for the thoughtful review!

Great Vday fic! I'm a loser for Pam and Jim in season 2...
(And Dwight!)
Thanks so much for sharing!

Author's Response: So am I, for all 3! Thank you for the review :)

Oh, Comfect. I love how sweet this one is. My absolute favorite element is that not only is Dwight rooting for them but Jim is completely dependent on him for this to work. Dwight’s begrudging encouragement warmed my heart. Thanks for this holiday piece! Great stuff!

Author's Response: Thanks DC! Dwight was a lot of fun to write here, because I think he and Jim actually have a really cool dynamic in the early seasons, where Dwight resents Jim but also actually respects him a lot more than he'd ever let on--and Jim returns that respect in the form of making Dwight his nemesis. I do think Jim could predict Dwight this well, but also that Dwight would not actually sabotage Jim's happiness; he'd just try his best not to be obvious that he was actually helping.

Okay my first comment (thank you, father who drilled us with WWII facts at the dinner table from childhood through present day) has been confirmed.

Now.

Let me just say that with every “Bob Vance, Vance Refrigeration,” I laughed a little bit wheezier. That slayed me right up until, “what am I, a frat bro?” Ohhhh poor young lil Jim Bean.

This was so sweet and adorable! The cards are thoughtful, and he turned it into a prank, and dare I say Dwight is actually rooting for them?

Well done!

Author's Response:

Funny, I also had a father who drilled me in WWII facts from childhood on up, which is why I felt the need to explain that I understood what V-J Day usually means.

I'm really glad you enjoyed this! It's flattering to hear because I admire your writing so much, so it really pleases me that you liked the jokes and the emotional be(e)ts (and yes, Dwight is definitely rooting for them--I don't think he has much time for Roy, and I think his repressed and grudging liking for Jim is an underrated part of their rivalry even in the early years).  Thanks for the review!

Very sweet. Jim's creativity, a prank on Dwight, a better version of how Season 2 went, lots of fun references just about everywhere you look. This was great.

Author's Response: Thank you! This basically sprang fully formed out of my head--it's literally my longest single chapter ever, but I wrote it in 2 hours, so I'm glad it was up to snuff!
