Your third paragraph describing Scranton is magnificent.

This is the best Karen breakup scene I've read. You treat Karen with a gentleness and intelligence that she deserves. Jim's honesty with her is as gentle as it can be. I love how articulate he can finally be.

This is wonderful from the start. You have an amazing knack for description; it flows, pulling me along.
I will never, ever eat carbonara the same way again.

Not quite sure why you call this canon-divergent. Seems to fit well within established canon. Obviously Jim and Pam did go on a date that night so I don't see anything diverging from canon. Just your take on how the date went away from the doc cameras is all.

Anyway, lot of fun with this last chapter. Nice to get Pam's POV this time around. The shadows of their past are still there, but that's all they are now. Shadows. The light of their new relationship is easily casting those old fears aside as they reach out for each other here.

Very cute and very sweet to see them like this. First Date fics are usually a lot of fun. This one is too. Lots of great introspection as Jim and Pam finally form the JAM we all know and love.

Starting out with his nervousness, dare I say fear, was a good was to go here. After all he's about to risk his heart on her for the third time. But as the saying goes, "third time's the charm." And this time the saying is proven right.

Delightful banter between the two of them there after she says yes. I really liked the part where she asks if he's back and he confirms that he is. Great nod to that little scene from after her speech at the beach.

Once more getting into Jim's head here. Now that he's finally realized what he needs and wants he has the courage to finally be honest. Interesting that Karen does try to fight for him one more time. But then again she was always the one more invested in the relationship. Still the fight and the pain on both their ends is real. Her's since she's realized no matter what she says or does, she'll never be Pam. His that he let it get that far.

Great writing.

Always nice to see a new take on how Jim behaved in the interview. I liked how you brought us into his point of view with this here. That he pays that close of attention to the yogurt lid shows just how much he pays attention to Pam and now how much he's paying attention to his heart. Nicely done.

I am always here for a first date story & this was no exception! I liked how your breakup between Karen and Jim played out. I do wonder if the nonexistent canon version would have them talking about Pam as it happened or if it was the elephant in the room.,.
Their date was lovely and felt very them. This was a great read!
