I’m dying to know why Pam won’t go to the hospital or the police. I get the feeling there’s more involved than her exhaustion. I’m also worried that Jim isn’t going to be able to defend them against Roy... I’m excited for the next update.

Okay, I finally have time to sit down and actually write a review. Normally I try to review every chapter, but there's been a lot going on. I'll try to hit the big points.

First off there are a lot of Roy's in fics that I've come to hate. Most of the time its because he's abusive to Pam. I think this Roy is the number one most disgusting Roy I've ever read. He gaslights Pam, beats her, does everything to avoid any form of responsibility, I mean the Roy in this story is a monster. Plain and simple.

I love this Jim though. How once he's figured out what's going on he doesn't shy away from anything. I said awhile ago he's going to take some serious steel in his spine to see Pam through all this. That's been proven. Jim has the courage to stay involved. To not just accept Pam's excuses. To seek out the right way of doing things. And most importantly to defend and protect Pam. If the Roy here is the bar none the prime example of toxic masculinity, this Jim is what true masculinity is. Standing up for those you love, being willing to face the hazard, and tempering those hard vitures with love and compassion.

Pam's journey through all this has been the real rollercoaster. To see her gradually realize what's going on. She's able to shake off the fog that was holding her mind prison. Once she saw that it gave her the courage to leave and fight back. Great job Pam. Clearly there are going to be scars. Phsyical and mental, but through all this she's gained the strength to deal with things on her own. Also the wisdom to seek out those who will truly support her and protect her. A hard road to watch her walk, espcially since she backslid a few times, but she's moving out into the light of truth and that at least is good to see.

Great writing to bring all that out.

Author's Response:

Thank you for your insightful comments, and for seeing exactly what I hoped to show. I posted a ex explanation on one of the chapters on another site explaining why Roy so unlikeable, so very mean- I don't want to say exaggerated because there are abusers just like him out there and I'm not aiming to downplay what people are going through- but here is the explanation-

Roy is mean and nasty, he and Jim are polar opposites this way, like a black/white dove comparison. Roy had to be really mean and Pam had to be really dragged down to give things resonance that was lasting; and to show how devoted Jim is to her - the worse Roy is, the better Jim is. Hope that made sense.
