When he goes to work the next day, he thanks Pam for her note.  They have a pleasant, polite conversation about his interview.  She seems genuinely happy for him, wishing him luck with everything.  He notices Karen trying not to listen from across the room.  He stays at Pam's desk a few seconds longer than he should.

When he finally walks away, he feels it again.  A sense of disquiet.  But again, he pushes it to the side, reminding himself that he is doing the right thing.  He will be better off in New York, away from Pam, and starting over (again) with Karen.  He starts to think he could love Karen.  He just needs to get away from here.

When David Wallace calls and offers him the job later, he takes it.
