I love this little glimpse you provide. I love that they have a short-hand conversation, without really needing to spell things out. They know and we know just how much this means, how tremendously impossible this day had seemed from the vantage point of the Cujinos lunch table. And now he is marrying her. He is marrying HER. He is MARRYING her. It's really palpable in your story, that feeling of amazement, contentment, and joy. Thank you. :)

I am a little late to comment, but I just found your stories and I have to say thank you. This is beautiful. I searched for another, weightier adjective, but "beautiful" just fits. The true beautiful that shines on its own, without distracting frills and noise. I love your writing, I love the way you handle details, descriptions, emotions. It's elegant and simple and so true to who these characters are. It doesn't matter what the situation, I never have trouble seeing Jim and Pam as we know them, not slight variations of them or some entirely different people that happen to have their names. Your stories are funny in a quite, gentle way. The Pam way. And they are sweet in non-sugary but truly poignant way. The Jim way. So, thank you! And please write more. I mean, those turtles need names!

“We can have this baby, Beesly, you and me.”

Yeah, kill me, why don't you?! I'm loving this fic. For all the -- really scary details of the reality of childbirth -- there's such sweet feeling here. That little sock hat is like a perfect metaphor. It's make-shift, it's comfy, and it's a bit alarming. And comforting, too, like a promise that everything will be alright.

Thank you for this! And please, don't leave us hanging for long. :)

Author's Response: Yeah, I thought Jim needed something positive to focus on to get him through this, and a hat might do the trick. I'll try to get this next one out - if only my family would stop demanding to be fed...*snort* Thanks a bunch, Peanut.

You had me at "Snow. Wine. Bolsheviks." :) How can I pass this by?! I love this already, and that means, you have to drop everything right now and write the next chapter! That's right, never mind you life and whatever you need to do in it. I want to know what happens! :)

I love how atmospheric this story is. Perhaps because I am looking at the great snow piles outside my window right now, but this works for me on such an empirical level. :) And, of course, there's this anticipation hanging in the air... Can't wait!

Thank you!

Author's Response: Empirical? Wow! Glad you can feel the atmosphere here - and the anticipation. Hope part two doesn't disappoint. May I suggest reading it with a good shot of Russian vodka? Thanks, PG!

Summary: This is no fun. Set in the moments following the Booze Cruise. But I guess it IS fun, if you think about where our two lovebirds are NOW :-)

Let me get this out of the way first: I demand a sequel! :)

There, said it. :) Now for the actual review: I really like this. This hurts, but it hurts so good. Poor Jim! I keep flashing back to that look in his eyes on the deck during the 17 seconds of painful silence. How, how did she not see it?! And poor Pam, too. Supposedly happy day, and yet, as much as she tries, she can't ignore the glaring inadequacy of her happiness. She knows, deep down, that she is settling. And she knows that Jim's supposed attachment to Katie shouldn't bother her. She knows all that. She realizes that this momentous day shouldn't end with her in the bathroom sneaking text messages to someone else other than her husband-to-be. She just can't process it yet.

Sigh, such a good trip down the memory lane. I can especially bask in this hurt from the warm and fuzzy safety of how thing turned out. :)

Thank you!

Author's Response: Oh I love this! I was just nodding as I read through your review...YES, YES, and YES...she shouldn't be doing any of these things. She shouldn't be texting him, but inside she knows...she KNOWS. And her "sorry" wasn't just because he broke up with his girlfriend. ::sigh:: Oh Pam. Oh Jim...How I wish I could tell you your future...Sadly, I can not. ;-)

You know what's crazy? I finish reading this and I feel like crying. I know how this ends. I know all the great, positive, hopeful things to come, and yet, this is so desperate and hopeless and heartbreaking...

Basically, it's all your fault for getting into post-Casino Night Jim's head like that. :) Because this feels very true. This dark place he must have gone to after. And how the hope leapt up again and then slowly trickled out as Pam didn't call...

Yep, crying now. You are evil. That is all.

Thank you!

Author's Response: As long as I can be a hobbit, I don't mind being evil. Aw, is it mean of me to be excited that I actually got a sniffle out of you? I couldn't imagine how awful it would have been for Jim to hear about the cancelled wedding from everybody but Pam. Thank you so much, Peanut, for reading and reviewing.
