playing along with her prank was analogous to raising his arms in surrender, saying out loud, "It's over; you won. I'm yours - do whatever you want."

This was a really great line, that and the part about the carpet still being the same. An excellent start. Off to read the rest.

Author's Response:

Thanks so much!  I really saw that moment as one in which Jim - whether consciously or unconsciously - started to fall back into it all over again (much to the delight of millions).

Thanks for reviewing!

P.S. Can't wait to read your latest stuff!

wondering whether or not it was her right to try to remind him

This is a very realistic concern for Pam, even though it's just one more excuse to not be brave. Great POV.

Author's Response: Thank you so much!

He wasn't as light-hearted here; they didn't bicker playfully over squeaky chairs or go on record scavenger hunts for her favorite brand of potato chips.

This makes me feel very sad for Karen because it's not what she signed up for. It makes me wonder about the possibility that if Jim carries on like he has been, she'll call the whole thing off on her own. I like the way you've written her.

Author's Response:

I completely agree with you - I feel sorry for her, too, because i get the sense that she has no idea about his history with Pam.  While I don't subscribe to the whole "Jim is a jerk" school of thought, I do think that he's inadvertently playing a bit fast and loose with Karen's affections. I just hope she's as strong and savvy as she seems to be, and will classily step back as soon as she realizes what's what.

Thanks for the review!

a sparsely worded email from Pam: Don't ever - ever - confide in Michael. Seriously.

Oh, dear. I can imagine the look on Pam's face. Nicely done, girl7!

Author's Response: Hee - I could, too.  The comments Michael made in "The Convention" made me wonder if Roy had ever actually confided in him....

Yay! More! I'm supposed to be writing, but instead I'm reading this!

she so obviously felt more than that, too; the feeling of her in his arms - slightly stiff and unyielding at first, then without warning limp and totally acquiescent, her lips and hands telling him the whole story, no denial, no flight instinct. Oh, yum.

only to find her filling the teapot he'd given her with water, all he could do was stand stock still, frozen, their eyes meeting, a multitude of things left unsaid passing between them before he deliberately turned and walked away. Oh, Jim. Don't be scared. Teapot=Love.

Great Karen POV!

transfixed by her every move, hanging on whatever crumbs she offered him, praying desperately that she'd change her mind I'm intrigued by the idea that Pam is experiencing Jim's past emotions at the same time that Roy is. Interesting insight. More, please.

First of all, I have a terrible head cold and read at least two paragraphs before I realized it was "mediation" not "meditation". Hahaha.

Secondly, this chapter is brilliant. It's not over the top at all, you hit just the right notes with all the characters. I was seriously reading between the fingers covering my eyes. I was so horrified for everyone and actually shouted "Michael! Don't!" at my laptop. So, good on ya.

Great line: as Michael dismantled the carefully constructed facade she and Jim had pieced together since his return.

You've done a great job with Roy here, I love how he totally misunderstands Jims feels for Pam, because that's just what Roy would do.

And Phyllis saying "That's too bad for Karen"? Awesome.

You've written Pam's thoughts on Jim's confession beautifully.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I left Pam at Jim's New Year's Eve party and I have to go rescue her before midnight.

Summary: Karen and Pam decide to throw a party and Jim hopes that by New Year's he'll have some things resolved. Spoilers through Benihana Christmas.

Oh dear. This cannot end well.

I like how detailed you are in your writing. I can imagine each scene so clearly.

Squeeeeeeeeee! And I love Pam wanting everyone to know that she's totally going to have sex with Jim later.

It doesn't hurt this time. Wonderful line!

And this: Now he knows it feels light, like air, kind of like he's had twenty-five phonebooks resting on his head and shoulders for the past five years, then all of a sudden someone came and knocked them all off. It feels like that. Guh. Amazing.

I really like Karen giving advice to Roy.

And, unless I'm out of line, I thought you might want to correct his line: rubbing the back of her forehead with a soapy hand.

Karen and Jim's break up was really heartbreaking, even though I was rooting for it just a little. And I loved this line: Because he's learning that honesty is never wrong. It may not always get you where you want to be, but it's never wrong.

Oh, yay. Lots of yummy admissions! I really like your Karen and because she's in a tough position, I didn't even mind her being accidentally mean to Pam.

Yay! I finally had time to sit down and read this through. Chapter one is a great setup, especially: Only now his shirts are a little more expensive and uncomfortable and he has to look directly at Dwight all day. It's a nice, subtle nod to how screwed Jim is, without hitting us over the head with it.

"Mrrhhhllff," he answers, his mouth full of food. He points to his face, chewing. "Purple. Yeah, that’s what I thought, too.

Bwah! Classic Jim/Kelly exchange!

She takes a step backwards and tosses blue, green, and yellow paper napkins into the cart, in addition to the white ones they’d already picked out. Hee!

I was totally holding my breath when Karen was looking around Pam's room. I knew there had to be something to catch her out!
