I came to The Office really, really late; hey, I got on the Russell Crowe train really late as well. Life was complicated when The Office first came out, but I got here through a series of serendipitous circumstances -- pandemic lockdown, Internet outage, and a gift of the boxed set of The Office.

I wrote fan fic for a much smaller site a long time ago with a writing partner; we were the Stupinski/Eisenberg of that fandom.  This site with it's extremely talented writers stirred the urge in me once again though I'm a much better editor than I am a writer and ALWAYS an avid reader.

Summary: Feature

Beth the waitress returns!

A series of stand alone, slice of life, one-shots in Pam and Jim's life, all tied together with the thread that runs through them; they all end with dinner at Christopher's, where (in my headcanon) they had their first date.

The first and the last chapter NOW COMPLETE work in tandem, but everything in between is its own story if you want to pop in for one whose title strikes your fancy.

Sorry I'm late on this review. Whenever I read a reference to Jim's nose, I get the giggles and have to go to Offsite Recommendations and reread Primae Noctis where the phrase "potato nose" was coined. That's my story, and I'm stickin' to it.

Jam turning to jelly is in the same league.

Good onya

Author's Response:

I love how you always wind up on a tangent when reading...in a good way. As I respond I am looking at my Jim funco pop and I don't quite think they got the nose in the right proportion.

Anyway so glad you enjoyed and got the giggles - I did myself when writing - in particular the jelly line.

Thanks for the review- they are like my aphrodisiac - well I guess more like my post-coital smoke (or since I don't my smoke, cuddle - and now I'm off to read It had to Be You  -the Harry Met Sally related AU)

Cheers!

This was delightful. I think the Meredith and Pam chapters were the best because you nailed their voices and outlook.
Both the Jim and Pam companion pieces were great!

She might have mentioned the odd name Jim Halpert signed on her pelvic cast thinking John Krasinski was one of Jim's pranks. I think she would have been delighted he had pranked her.

Congratulations on your first fic here. Excellent revelation of Pam's nature, both in being prepared (every office has that one person who can always be counted on) and her reaction to the pharmacist. Birth control in our modern time is presented so well.

55s, Drabbles, and One Shots are excellent ways to declutter and get the juices flowing for other projects.
"She is not risk aversive. She takes pride in the idea that she is risk calculative." is so insightful into Karen's mindset. Thinking Jim is worth the risk is a nice end button.

Author's Response:

Thank you for saying that. I feel so validated that my assessment of Karen's character isn't completely off. Though I was never a fan of hers but again a mature side of my brain does believe she was quite a smart person.

And yes, the little drabbles indeed helps in stimulating brain. I hope I will have something ready for my longer fic soon, which is my first born.

Stellar chapter.

Even when Texans have trained themselves out of their accents, y'all slips out sometimes, most often when we're tired or hungover. Y'all is such a convenient word for a group.

The analogy of Angela and Penny's barn cat is so apropos. Barn cats can be affectionate at a time of their choosing but always keep a feral streak. Angela's utter control is only surrendered when absolutely necessary.

Nice usage of Clark and Pete. Pete's girlfriend with the feather in her hair immediately snapped an album cover image to mind. You didn't name her, but in my head she was Janis or Pearl.

Good onya

Author's Response:

Thank you so much! I'm really pleased you enjoyed it :) And ha yeah to be fair, y'all does seem like a pretty convenient word. Glad you liked the Angela/cat comparison too! I do feel like it's the animal she'd be (as well as the animal she loves). I did have a lot of fun including hippy Clari and Pete here, and that's amazing on Pete's girlfriend, lol.

Thanks very much for reading and taking the time to review!

Halfway through the first chapter you had me invested in the paradigm shift.
Danny - the nice guy
Jim - The Manwhore of Scranton (That had me cracking up since he could have been that all along)
Cathy - a cross between Ryan and Karen

I do like that you've updated Pam's language to include coarser vocabulary and more direct conversation. It's a sign of the times as language evolves and propriety changes.

Author's Response:

Thank you so much!

Other than Mark Sloan, my other thought process was if I turned Jim into JK if he was a total douche (which as far as I know, he's not). And I just couldn't let the manwhore thing slide because of how much it made me left.

I rarely see Cathy here so I wanted to utilize her. And I need her to be the crazy ex-girlfriend.

With Pam yes, badly put, I needed her to grow a pair because she has to stand up to Jim since he's a much more direct person in this story.

The Captain America shield did make me smile. There are many more of us MCU fans than I thought. LOL

I don't think Reed Richards is is going to happen. The first nail in the coffin was just how long the negotiations had gone on.
Marvel has indicated that they want a more diverse cast. They did cast a black actor as one of Richards future descendants in Phase 4 or 5. Sorry, I didn't save the link where I read it online as that was the second nail in the coffin for me. I gave up hope even though I made sure to watch Wandavision for any clues (what a disappointment that was).
Here's the third nail. Blunt is supposedly out. https://bgr.com/2021/03/21/marvel-movies-fantastic-four-cast-emily-blunt/ Her reason raises more questions for me. A peek at IMDB Pro doesn't shed any light on the matter. No, I didn't subscribe to it just for this. I grew up in LA, and it's a way to keep up with old friends whom I've lost touch with over the years; it's cheaper, more targeted, and more accurate than subscriptions to Variety and Hollywood Reporter.
At least we have that wonderful fan art of Krasinski as Mr. Fantastic

Author's Response:

Thank you so much!

Yes! I am a huge MCU fan and then I became a huge Office fan.

It's so sad if Emily is really out but I was half expecting that the two of them won't do it at the same time given it will be too time consuming.

This chapter was engrossing and fun to read. Sometimes the journey to the destination is 75% of the fun.

You really brought out the characters' personalities and interactions well.
Ryan having no idea how inept and insulting he is at sales and then landing low blow after low blow on Jim, manwhore though he may be.
Dwight being the one having a complaint filed on him instead of him doing the formal complaint on someone else was a refreshing change.
I really liked the three negotiating the detente though I wanted to bash Michael for not defending his two best salesmen, but I often feel like bashing him. When left to his own devices, Michael will choose the worst possible solution to any given situation.
Nice way to slip in Crazy!Cathy. Just a reminder of her character.

There were three other characters in this chapter -- Snap, Crackle, and Pop. This posting was full to the rim with them. I'd give you a bowl of Rice Krispies if I could. A jelly bean will have to stand in.

Good onya

Author's Response:

Thank you so much! And thank you for the Rice Krispies haha

To be honest, I was really scared adding this chapter because it wasn't in my original outline but I ended up having so much fun writing it. I was just in that mindset of making all of these people (outside of Pam and Danny... and Jim to an extent but he is inherently a douche in this story) be as ridiculously awful as possible.

Ryan was definitely the worst of the bunch. He just wanted to get Jim riled up to the point where he was genuinely hurt by his comments. He was a literal high school bully here. I mean if he can make someone like Dwight, who literally locked someone in a coffin, turn out to be a more decent human being then that's saying something.

With Michael, although yes, it was a terrible decision from his end (I mean obviously Jim would be upset), he just wants everyone to get along which was always his downfall.

Cathy is literally just a crazy ex-girlfriend through and through. I don't think I'll be able to find a way to redeem her by the time I finish this.

Maxie, Maxie, Maxie or Goldie, Goldie, Goldie. My eyes already think I'm peeling onions from your What if the umbrella summary. I feel an ugly cry coming on.

Don't worry about Darryl's location; he's dodging Val or Val's boyfriend works as an excuse. I keep looking up distances from Scranton on Mapquest. Scranton is kinda centrally located to most places on the East Coast -- 2 to 3 hours and you can be anywhere (except the BBQ is suspect, I'm sure). I've commuted 90 minutes one way to work and have been known to drive two hours to try a new BBQ joint.

Spotify already thinks I'm pretty weird because the Ben Rector Love Like This is on no fewer than THREE playlists, multiple times on each playlists. I almost have it programmed to automatically invoke the repeat function whenever it recognizes Love Like This.

Friendly Tip. Buy Kimberly Clark stock on spec immediately

Author's Response:

You always crack me up Once!

In the episode this takes place he is in Scranton but in my version he is already spending a lot more time in Philly.

Such an awesome song. If I were 10 again, I'd be needing a new needle from the constant plays (although vinyl is back baby, my 15 year old has been building up his collection and goes to the vintage record store every weekend. We get to hear a lot of Dylan, Simon and Garfunkel, Paul Anka, Donovan out of his room - wow that was some tangent Angela). Hope you take a listen to Gold  -not quite Pam and Jim (although based on interpretation it could be) but it is also hauntingly good. It got me writing a season 9 story that I never thought I would.

Thanks for the review -always love to hear from you.
