Oh, that is just wonderful. Poignant and sweet and totally Jim. I'm so glad we know what we know--that Pam is no longer with Roy and that there's a date coming up--or else I'd be just too sad to go on.

Oh, man. I can totally see this happening at that first-date-that-wasn't. Excellent, if not sad, story- loved this in particular: "He’s making plans for a future that she has planned with someone else. He’s building them a house when she has already built one across the street."

Poor Jim. This is like Romeo and Juliet, where you know the ending and you know it's coming but the characters don't know and you wish it could change for them to prevent heartbreak.

Awesome! I love the running count of dates in Jim's head...and the end was so heartbreaking! That was a very well-chosen way for Jim to notice her ring. I actually wrote my own "First Date" fic at Cugino's, but I think yours put mine to shame. Great job!

I think this is my favorite story ever. It was beautiful and so typical of Jim. It was heartbreaking at the same time because we know she's engaged and we're just waiting for his heart to break. Does that make sense?

This is doubly heartbreaking, because we know where it's going even before he does.

I love this story. So sweet, so simple, so sad. I loved how full of hope Jim is: "He decides that one night they can order in pizza and sit on the couch with a couple of beers, enjoy a television show or just each other" And then his hopes are shattered in such a drastic way: "he’s fallen hard and he can’t pick himself back up." Great Job!

I'm glad you finished this, too. Poor Jim. Even though we all knew what was coming, it's still heartbreaking. At least he has a real first date to build on now. I'd love to get your take on that one. I hate black jelly beans, too.
