There's really a lot to be mined from taking Meredith seriously - there's tons of tragedy treated like comedy in her canon backstory, and you've done really well exploring it here. And this is a truly original concept in pairing her with Ryan back in the times when we thought Ryan might be kind of normal/possibly compassionate - you can see him at that point still identifying with someone who's been the target, and maybe feeling a little guilty she took the bullet for him. And it actually even still works knowing what we know now - Ryan is at the beginning of the slide Meredith is depressed about being at the end of in a lot of ways.

This is terrific...huge originality factor, but that's not even why. Meredith is so well fleshed out here - such subtle and believable detail. That drunken sense of everything being out of kilter (happening inside of a Tilt-o-Whirl - great description) really comes across, as does how very young/naive Ryan is and how jaded, but still raw, Meredith is. Love that when he kisses her, it reminds her of her first husband and that being in her own home, seeing her kid, snaps her back to reality, so to speak. Really poignant and bittersweet and true. (And Ryan singing My Perogative? Oddly perfect.)
