Aww this was so great. I love all your stories; I've been meaning to review one of them. I loved the Lessons Challenge, especially. This AU is especially hard to do, but it really turned out well. I hope your book's just as good!
Author's Response: Thanks, Kelly -- I hope so, too :)

So - first of all, this was a great story. I just saw Before Sunrise/Before Sunset, so I've been in a romantic, dreamy state of mind recently - and this fit the bill! I love that you are developing this further; after all, love is love is love, existing anywhere - even outside of this fandom! Lately I've been on this kick of AU fic for Jim & Pam, putting them in outer space or in the 1930s or underwater. I like what you did because they were still them in many ways, just in a different situation. They were adorable and prankster-y and great. Thanks for a lovely tale.
Author's Response: Thanks, Emilys List :)

So good - still amazed by how seamlessly you've transported the characters to an entirely different era, context, etc. yet kept them so intact and true; also by how vividly visual this is, without relying on long, wordy descriptions.
Glad to hear your book is going well - I've self-cannibalized fics to write non-fanfic stories, but a novel is a huge undertaking - I hope your attention span is contagious ;-) Thanks for re-posting this, shan...really a treat to re-read it (especially the parts you've added.)
Author's Response: Thanks, Colette, very much :)

Nomadshan, I am so happy you reposted this story, and to repost it with additional material is such a wonderful gift! You're a testament to the best of what fanfic can be--not just an expression of your love for a TV show, but a platform to help develop good writing. I have always loved your writing, and Hope is one of the best pieces I've ever read, not just in fandom but anywhere. If writing it led you into other genres, that's wonderful. Thanks for returning it to us, and a million good wishes on your professional career.
*sniff* They grow up so fast...
Author's Response: Thanks, NEJ -- I appreciate it. I think some good material has come of trying to expand this story.

Oh. My. God.
I didn't start reading Office fic until after you had pulled this; and to be completely honest, I wasn't sold on the whole "Jim/Pam in the Great Depression" thing, but I decided to give it a shot when I saw this morning it had been reposted. I am so glad I did.
I don't know how you did it, but it's like you took the spirits of Jim and Pam and embedded them into this story. It was beautifully written and absolutely pitch perfect with reagards to the characterization. The thing that surprised me the most though was Roy. He wasn't a focus, obviously, but you really made him into a wonderful, loving character, and it made Pam(and Jim)'s struggle so much more real.
Nothing I can say here will express my love for this story, so I'll just say thank you for reposting it and giving me the chance to read it. It is absolutely wonderful in every way.
Author's Response:
Thanks for giving it a chance, starblossom, and for reviewing! Writing this made me a fan of Roy -- I could say that the show took the easy way out in removing him from the storyline, but I did, too. :)

Sorry, I'm leaving you like a million reviews in a row. But I wanted to say I love that we find out that Pam and Jim did have their happily-ever-after. I know if was eluded to in the original version with Jim showing up on the farm again, but I love the small details you've added about it.
Author's Response:
My pleasure :)

Aww, so we'll never see these chapters of "Hope" published in a real novel form? That's too bad. This is truly one of my favorite stories of all time (and I mean, including every novel I've ever read), and I love the addition of the chapters that hadn't existed in the original version.
But I'm looking forward to reading what you will end up publishing in novel form.
Thank you for posting this back up on the internet with the added chapters. I will continue to read it over and over.
Author's Response: Thanks, Puff -- maybe I'll have good news about the novel in the next year.... :)

Oh! I had never caught the fact that the medal and the note in 1945 had been from Jim! Wow. I don't know how I missed that.
Author's Response: :D

Yay, good to see this back where it belongs!! Hope is a cornerstone of Office fanfic, you can't think of Office fanfic without thinking of Hope.
Author's Response: Thanks, happy to put it back now :)

Shan, I am sooo excited to see this back on line! My most favorite story ever. I can't wait to read it again and I'm going to do that right now! Welcome back - I've missed you and Hope!
Author's Response: Missed you too, kaystar -- thanks :)

I was so happy to see this back online! I had read it way back when but never reviewed because I was being a big weirdo lurker creep, so I have to tell you, this is probably the best fanfiction I have ever read. I remember first seeing the description of the story and scoffing, thinking that Jim and Pam in the Great Depression sounded so lame. Well, I was so wrong! Something about your imagery, your style just completely draws me in. My heart literally aches and soars right along with the characters. And, you win for the only fanfic to ever make me cry. I think this is so much better than The Notebook - and that you'd be hard pressed to find someone who wouldn't be moved by it if they gave it a chance.
Author's Response: Thanks for de-lurking, supergirlsudz, it means a lot :)

Oh my goodness!!! I gasped when I saw this had been resubmitted. It's absolutely one of my favorite stories (independent of being an Office fanfic). It's definitely the story that turned me on to AU.
It's just simply lovely, thank you so much for sharing it again!
Author's Response: Thanks for that, McGigi -- Annakovsky's O*F*F*I*C*E was what got me interested in AU -- just payin' it forward. :)

I didn't have the pleasure of reading this the first time around so I'm glad you've let us have the opportunity to enjoy it again. I'm not sure if I even have the words to properly illustrate just how brilliant and gorgeous this is. I'm just completely blown away and just.. gah. Absolutely perfect, and if I may add, definitely wonderful to read before the premiere of season four. :)
Author's Response: Hey, thanks for reading + reviewing! It means a lot, even after so long :)

Thanks, nomadshan, for returning this story. So many people who missed it the first time around, will now be able to enjoy it. It's such a classic in the fandom and makes me cry every single time I read it. So thanks again!
Author's Response: Thanks, EverybodyHurts, I appreciate that. :)

I'm so happy to see this again! It grabs me just as much as it did last year. And I loved the bits that were new and different. Thank you so much for posting it again, and good luck with your career as a novelist!
Author's Response: Thanks, lianhanshee -- glad you liked the new bits :)
