Crap - you just reminded me I left a load of laundry in the dryer that needs to be folded. Guess I know what I'm doing once I finish this.
Really excellent job. You have a way of delving into Jim's bruised and slightly out of control psyche at that point in late season two, without making him too overly dramatic.
The last scene was fabulous. Really great work as always!
Author's Response:
Hee -- sorry about the laundry reminder! (Though if it's any consolation, I've got a load -- the third I've done today -- in the dryer. And I always feel incredibly resentful at that damned buzzer when it goes off, LOL.)
So glad to hear you say that my Jim comes off as bruised / out of control without being overdramatic -- so relieved, actually, to hear you say that, because I think in a lot of my earlier fics, I was *definitely* guilty of melodrama, particularly when it came to Jim (and still am, to some degree). So it's good to hear that you found it believable. :o)
Thanks, as always, for the review!

The comparison between the old Jim and new Jim was so perfect. It's so very nice to have new Jim, who's so in love with Pam and recognizes all they've been through and charishes every moment. And that end scene? Wowza.
Author's Response:
You know, I hadn't thought about it like that. :o) You're so on it, as always, I swear. And thank you, BTW, for the invaluable beta help (and the awesome Scranton package -- eeee!)
You rock!

Wow. I just needed to take a deep breath. That was so emotional and tense. You are so good at capturing that tension and passion. More quickly, please : )
Author's Response:
So glad you enjoyed it! Yeah, this chapter -- or part of it -- is recycled from my Away From the Cameras, and during that series, I absolutely drenched poor Jim in angst. :o) JK just does the angst and the longing and the heartbreak all too well.... :o)
Thanks for the feedback!

ooh! I didn't want that to end! Purlease write another installment! I love your juxtaposition of Angsy Jim and HappyDazed Jim.
Author's Response:
Heh - yours is one of those screen names that makes me giggle every time I read it. :o) I'm glad you enjoyed the angsty alongside the happy -- because the angst was ENORMOUS in this particular chapter, I know. (And - *cough* - that's what she said.) :oD
Thanks for reviewing!

After reading this twice, all I can say is "Bravo!" and throw confetti.
I don't know how you manage to put a different twist on the UST in each of your stories, but you do it magnificently and my eyes are flying across the screen and, like them, I'm just holding my breath, wondering what's going to happen. So, so good.
Love how you're blending the past and present in this story. I had to rewatch all the Jam scenes in "Money" after reading.
Glad you got some chores done today. I have totally been wasting time on the computer. I'll be folding laundry until late tonight probably to make up for it. Hee.
Author's Response:
Thank you so much, my friend! Really -- so wonderful to read such a happy, enthusiastic review. :o) I keep saying that I worried about this one, just because the last two or three I've written have hinged on a fair amount of suspense, whereas this one is more an exploration of what was going on in Jim's head. So it's naturally less compelling, I think -- and therefore it's a relief to get feedback. :o)
Thanks so much, as always, for reviewing!

You continue to thrill me. I love how well you know these characters and how faithful you are to them. Your writing is wonderful and so finely tuned. I always have this sweet ache everytime I read your stories and I hate when the page scroll bar nears the bottom because I know it'll be over way too soon.
Author's Response:
I'm so glad to hear that you're enjoying this, really. As I told Starry Dreamer, this one is so heavy on the interior monologue with really very little suspense that -- after the fun of writing Climbing As We Fall, which was heavy on the tension (which I love writing) -- I've worried that this one's a bit slower. So it's really nice to hear that there are people reading and enjoying it. :o)
Thanks for reviewing!

Okay, it really shouldn't surprise me that this is fabulously good, but wow!!! It's awesome. And I was listening to the song in the background as I read and that just made it ten times better. Seriously, this is amazing. I think you've outdone yourself.
On a related note, I was sooo glad to see something new from you. I was worried that the new season wasn't providing enough inspiration or something since you tend to do the angst so well, but I should've known better! :)
Author's Response:
You are too sweet, I swear. :o) I'm thrilled that people are interested in this; I was worried that nobody would care for some reason. It's true that I haven't felt as inspired lately in the absence of on-screen angst (NOT that I'm complaining!), but Money really knocked me over the head, and I had to explore it....
Thanks so much, my friend, for reviewing!

I really enjoyed reading this, girl7. You're a fanfic master. I can't wait till it gets to the steamy stuff.
Author's Response: I'm so glad you liked it! I just posted the next chapter, and the steamy stuff is included.... :o)
Date: November 05, 2007 09:01 pm Title: Chapter 1: Breathe in, breathe out tell me all of your doubt and everybody bleeds this way just the same
I must admit, after "Money" aired I thought to myself: "I really hope someone writes what Jim's thinking about during his conversation with Dwight and that long walk up the stairs..." I'm SO glad to see that you're are writing this! I have enjoyed reading a number of your other stories, and you always get the characters and the angst just right! So I'm thrilled to keep reading as this story evolves!
Author's Response:
I'm glad you were intrigued by that, too! I was really glad to see the writers emphasize just how miserable he'd been, because I really do think he was in absolute hell at the end of season 2 (and I'd written him that way before, which made me feel a little vindicated, hee). But I was thrown off by the fact that he seemed to have such an epiphany -- and that Pam seemed to see that, too, based on her response to the kiss. And it's ultimately that epiphany that I'm working toward here.
Thanks so much for your review!

I like where you are going with this...or where you seem to be going. Please keep it up!
Author's Response:
So glad you like it! THere'll be at least one more chapter, and it's the same format (begins in the present with Dwight, flashes back to ca. Conflict Resolution, then comes back to post-The Job).
Thanks so much for your review!

Angst ensues? From girl7? What a surprise. Just kidding, dear. I'm overjoyed to read something new by you. I'm glad you are delving into Jim's thoughts during "Money" since you commented in the episode thread that you felt vindicated for the angsty Jim scenes you had written in prior stories.
Looking foward to more S4 analysis from you!
Author's Response:
I know -- me writing angst?! Get OUT! [/Elaine] I don't know why I'm drawn to it, but alas, I can't resist torturing our poor Jim. And yes, I knew as I was watching the episode that I'd have to revisit this - too much going on beneath the surface there not to.
Thanks so much for reviewing!

You. Hee! Such a creature of habit. You start out with some perfectly good Dwight sadness and move directly into historical Jam angst! HA! Really well plotted though. Nice movement between eras.
Author's Response:
Me? YOU! First of all -- sorry I haven't responded to your reviews of Climbing As We Fall; it's been a bit hectic lately. But still, you should know that it was so thrilling to get all those new reviews in when things had been quiet for a while. Thank you so much for that!
...And for this one as well. You bet your butt I'm a creature of habit; it always goes back to the angst for me, hee. :o)
Thanks for reviewing!

just absolutely beautiful. and the vid... wow... i can see how it inspired this! i'm in tears!
Author's Response: That video left me all teary, too -- so wonderful. And it has definitely been the inspiration for this. :o) Thanks so much for reviewing!

That was very sweet. So JAM

YOU CAME BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!
You were missed, greatly!
I've been hoping someone would take the cue from Money and write something so (beautifully) angst-y - Thank you for taking the time to fill in the gaps - you have such an excellent handle on the characters' voices & situations that it's really difficult to not think it canon!
I can't wait to read where you take this story. Thank you, again!
Author's Response:
Oh wow -- thank you! :o) Believe me, I missed writing; I had such a great time writing Climbing As We Fall that I was sad to see it end. But when this episode aired, I just knew immediately I'd have to write about it, try to figure out what was going on in Jim's head -- because it seemed like such a major moment for him.
So glad you enjoyed it, and I really appreciate your review!

Wow! I just finished watching 4AMinsomniac's "Two Princes" fan-vid. It's so weird that you would steer me right back to that page, to another unbelievable video that I had not yet discovered. Wonderful! I too love the fan-vids...and your writing style by the way. Great job, girl7!
Author's Response: Isn't she just amazing? Her videos are always just terrific. Thanks so much for your review!

I hadn't realized that Breathe In, Breathe Out was the inspiration to your fic. That video is just beautiful and it's completely amazingly fitting in connection to your chapter. I absolutely lovd the ending... even though I think you're going multichapter-- I love the conclusion you've created. That the past is the past and they are moving forward. [me banging on the keyboard] Listen up! It's awesome and beautiful and that kiss... oh me! Loved it!
Author's Response:
Yes - and I have you to thank for directing me to it! Heh heh, you and the keyboard.... :o)
Thansk for everything!

Wonderful mix of angst and tentative first date. It's funny how I can handle the angst so much more now that I know the outcome:) You have a real gift for getting into the heads of these two crazy kids. So looking forward to more.
Author's Response:
It is funny about the angst, isn't it? But that's one thing I was counting on -- because when I posted the original version of the Conflict Resolution chapter (which is every bit as angsty as this one), it was a few weeks before the season 3 premiere -- so, eeee. :o)
Thanks so much for your kind words, and for reviewing!

perfect! I wish it were longer, though. :(
Author's Response:
THank you! And there'll be at least one more chapter, so more's on the way. :o) (BTW - love your handle. Hee.)
Thanks for reviewing!

So great. I was swept up in it, didn't want it to end!
Author's Response: Really? Thanks so much! There'll be at least one more chapter, BTW. Thanks for reviewing!
Date: November 04, 2007 04:32 pm Title: Chapter 1: Breathe in, breathe out tell me all of your doubt and everybody bleeds this way just the same
Wow. I have never commented on a story before, though I read almost all of them. girl7, this is beautiful and so true to character. You use subtletly in a way that is profoundly moving in relation to the characters of Pam and Jim. I can actually buy this as their first date, not to mention how Jim was feeling when he was talking to Dwight. Very well done! More, please!
Author's Response:
Well I have to respond in kind: WOW. Seriously -- for some reason, I worried that this story wouldn't resonate with anyone but me. :o) It's amazing to hear that it translated -- so glad to hear that you related to it.
...And it's always thrilling to hear someone say that he/she hasn't commented before...! Seriously -- so glad you enjoyed this and that it rang true. I'll be updating soon!
Date: November 04, 2007 04:06 pm Title: Chapter 1: Breathe in, breathe out tell me all of your doubt and everybody bleeds this way just the same
Well, look at you, missy...as if I didn't feel lacksadasical (sp?) enough, not even being able to crank out one little vignette and here you go with a whole new multi-part fic. Dang. I like the awkwardness and tentativeness of their first date and tying the narrative back into previous episodes. Using that stairwell convo with Dwight as the springboard is interesting and full of potential, cause that moment kind of galvanized their whole emotional history...for Jim and for us. Okay, ready for more, popcorn's in the microwave. Have at it, you ;-)
Author's Response:
Oh my god -- I'm seriously chuckling at your comment re: not being productive. I wrote the initial draft of this thing three weeks ago and was absolutely paralyzed -- had no idea where to go with it.
As far as your own procrastination goes: You've yet to write a single thing that isn't just breathtaking (which sounds like hyperbole, but honestly it's not), so take your time if you need to! (...I might have re-read "That Night" to get back into the groove for this fic. *cough*)
In any case: So glad to hear that my vacillating between the present and flashbacks work for you; I had my reservations. But I'll follow your advice and have at it. :o)
Thanks, my friend, for reviewing!
Date: November 04, 2007 04:03 pm Title: Chapter 1: Breathe in, breathe out tell me all of your doubt and everybody bleeds this way just the same
That was really cool! Anytime I see your name on a fic, I know it's going to be awesome and this was no exception. I love that video that inspired you too - it's a great song and really greatly edited.
Author's Response:
Whoosh. *breathing a sigh of relief* Seriously -- I worried about this one: Would anyone still care three weeks after the pivotal episode aired?
...So great to hear that you enjoyed it, and equally awesome to see a familiar name review. *beaming* (And yes -- how freaking brilliant was that video?? Baffles me, honestly....)
Thanks again!
Date: November 04, 2007 03:43 pm Title: Chapter 1: Breathe in, breathe out tell me all of your doubt and everybody bleeds this way just the same
This is funny. I've just spent my last 2 days at work reading "Away from the cameras" (its been very slow, and it was the perfect solution) and I loved it. Then I get home and see that you've posted a new story! This one was wonderful. Although after reading all 30something chapters of the other story within a 2 day timespan I think I desperately need a break from the angst. The ending here made up for it though! hehe
Author's Response:
First of all (revealing self as a slight 80's R&B nerd): Is your handle an allusion to the Brenda K. Starr song? ...No? Well, okay then. :o)
I must tell you that it's really, really thrilling to get a review from someone who recently read Away From the Cameras -- I'd really worried about pulling from that particular chapter. I didn't want it to come off as lazy or simply unnecessary -- but the truth is that as soon as I saw that scene (with Jim's confession about not being able to sleep or taste food...!?!), I thought of the uber-angsty chapter I'd written for "Conflict Resolution" and was so tempted to mine that, sort of bring it into the present season.
That said -- must extend my apologies for your having read Away From the Cameras in two days...!?! It was the second full-length fic I wrote, and yeah, I just wallowed in the angst and definitely pushed the boundaries of reality with regard to the sexual tension. :o) But I have to say that writing it was so much fun -- got me totally addicted.
But I digress: Thank god you felt like the current story made up for the angst in "Conflict Resolution," because honestly..... :o)
Date: November 04, 2007 03:34 pm Title: Chapter 1: Breathe in, breathe out tell me all of your doubt and everybody bleeds this way just the same
So I sat down for a minute just to catch up online and WHAT? New girl7? I was so excited I think I forgot to breathe for a minute! YAY!
As usual, you never disappoint. I'm especially excited to see where this goes because I think there was so, so much going on in Jim's head in those last few scenes of Money. Who better to dissect and turn it into fanfic than you? No one, that's who! So, I await patiently for the next chapter, which I know will rock like this one does. :)
Author's Response:
All right, so first of all: While I sort of shamelessly embrace all reviews (and am really stupidly thrilled at every single one, honestly), it's especially exciting to see a review from someone who regularly comments on all my stuff -- makes me feel as if it's in perspective, if that makes any sense.
In short: Seeing a Timbuck2/kells review makes me all kinds of smiley! :o) (See?)
It's such a relief to get feedback on this, because honestly, I wrote the initial draft immediately after "Money" and wasn't sure what to make of it. (There are some episodes that end, and I just look at Mr. Girl7 & say, "Okay...mind if we do our own thing for a while?" ....And he knows I've got to go write, LOL. That episode was one of those times.)
That said, I was worried I wouldn't do the nuances justice -- because I think there was a lot that hadn't been said between Jim & Pam at that point. (Otherwise, why would he have looked so shaken after talking to Dwight? And what about the kiss?)
The things left unsaid is/are the driving force of this fic -- and I'll leave it at that, lest I totally tip my hand. :o)
Thanks so much -- really -- for reviewing!!!!
