"She got into her car and started the engine. It came to life with a gentle rumble and she pulled back onto the road, not bothering to cast a glance back at the pick-up truck still in the breakdown lane." This part made my heart break for Roy.

This was lovely and bittersweet. It's a very real look at what these two people are to each other now - disconnected, but with a strong history and a sense that they *used* to know each other really well - and it's okay, if a little weird, that they don't anymore.

They had agreed to be friends and this was the sort of thing a friend would do for a friend. Even if they hadn't spoken to each other since the conversation where they decided to stay friends.
I love this thought, it's so true, we've all been there in some form.
Once, at her insistence, he had tried to teach her what all the tools were, but she couldn't differentiate between wrench types and he got frustrated and gave up. She supposed she couldn't get mad at him for that, because if she had ever tried to explain a monochromatic color scheme, the same thing would probably have happened.
Again, this is a fantastic sentiment.
Carbondalien, this story was awesome! I really liked how Roy wasn't portrayed as the bad guy, just not the right guy. You've captured Pam's growth in a single shot, and it's fantastic.

Wow, this was great! So realistic.
But please please please give us what happens when Jim finds out...I could see a little tension there, especially if Pam didn't even call him to tell him she had car trouble in the first place...
Just a thought, I love it as is though!

Wow. This is an excellent little story. Short, succint, and really readable. Thanks for it.

Woa, it looks like you're carting all of your work from livejournal to over here.
I love this -- read it on livejournal yesterday -- it's very realistic and non-confrontational, which I expect from Pam, but was kind of suprised to see from Roy... what was his rationale behind that.
Oh, and I wonder what Jim would think of that whole thing... second chapter??? :D
Author's Response: Yeah, one of my friends convinced to start posting here as well as LJ.rnrnAs for why Roy wasn't confrontational, it's because it's set after they've already had one of those sorts of situations (mentioned in the story as a conversation they had where they decide to remain friends). He's already gotten all his huffiness and puffiness out. And writing that makes me want to go and write that conversation...rnrnHmm, Jim. Now, see, that gives me another idea... so maybe I'll take these ideas and add them on as chapters. :)
