I've always thought this is probably the truest look inside Pam's head pre-Casino Night on the archive - it changes the ending of Casino Night in a way I obviously love, but I actually think it's got a lot of explanatory power for how Pam actually reacted to Jim's confession.
It's really difficult to make her both a) as unaware consciously of what's happening with her and Jim as she would have to be to explain her behavior in S2 and b) not just completely boring and disconnected from the events of canon. This manages to pull it off better than anything else I've read.

Brilliant, especially the early portrayal of Pam’s history. I’ve read this three times and every time it Hurts when Roy comes to her dorm and she starts crying, telling him he has to wear something because she doesn’t know who he’s been with. It’s such a likely but so telling part of their story. Really wonderful.

This is without a doubt one of my all time fave office fics. This one came up often in our 10th anniversary survey last year, and someone made the comment that this was "the truest characterization of Pam I've read" which I definitely agree with. I pretty much recommend this to everyone who will listen ;-)

great story! I enjoyed seeing the early days of Pam's relationship with Roy, and felt sad when I saw her neglected (and the symbolism of the yard being nurtured and then neglected, even by Pam).
It was hard for me to read in the middle, because you glossed over the Jim parts, so she seemed absolutely clueless and "clearly" (oops, I was wrong) had no love-feelings for Jim.
I had no idea you were going to change the outcome of Casino night. And then when they did have sex, I was afraid it was going to be unsatisfying for her. But I think that negativity was coming from Pam's viewpoint "he does this differently".
The ending was good. I was surprised that she wanted to long-distance it/take it slowly, but she's right, it is the correct decision for her. I loved how sincerely supportive she was of Jim's transfer to Stratford. And I'm glad Jim came around to her line of thinking.
And damn! There is Roy waiting for her and worried. That certainly makes the break-up part faster.

I'm fucking hopeless with writing reviews, but I just had to here... And how in the hell does this only have 8 reviews?
This story is brilliant. It could not even be a fanfic... Just a short story published somewhere out in the world. You have an absolutely wonderful writing style. Nice work.

Wow, I can't believe I just read this. Colette recc'd it to someone on the boards and I decided to take a looksee. I'm so, so glad I did. This takes me back...and in such a great way. This is the most realistic, heartfelt journey through Pam's life that I think I've ever read and you do it with such seamless elegance. I also loved that after everything you didn't have things kick immediately into high gear with Jim. As much as we all would have loved that...this type of journey made more sense.
Gosh, I'm glad I finally read this. Better late than never I suppose. GREAT, FANTASTIC work.

Okay, I really want to see what happens next.
Author's Response: Funnily enough, I was just thinking about this story the other day and wondering myself. The ending was sort of a surprise even to me (I didn't know exactly where I was going with it when I started), and it's actually a little similar to what they're currently facing on the show, so I'm curious to see where they go with that plotline.

Wow wow wow. I love this whole story so much... the detail of Pam's life up until Jim, and everything that happens afterwards, is so perfect. There's a familiarity because we know the characters already, but you make us see them with Pam's eyes, from her perspective, with all her memories of Roy in high school and college and instead of just watching it, you make it feel like we're living it. That's really hard to do, and you make it look so effortless. Wonderful job. Just wonderful!

So, I was going through a bunch of recs on the mtt board and started browsing, and oh. My. God...this is an absolutely amazing story! It gets so in depth as to how Pam became the person she is...and there's just so much description that makes it wonderfully written. So, this is really late, but wonderful job.

This is amazing, how there's this staggering amount of detail, and you have written it in such...I don't want to say ordinary, because it's not *ordinary* or *simple* but those are the only words my mind can come up with... language, but it never crosses the line into being a laundry list of just everything that happens. So, just wow. Awesome.

This is really fantastic! You did just an awesome job covering so much time, and all the details and references are great. Pam and Jim are so in-character, too, I love it!
