I was doubtful at first and ready to be fooled but i was still surprised by the ending. It was really sad but in a way it fits. I am still a JAM fan though.

Honestly, I'm not a big fan of this story. And not because he chooses Karen over Pam, that's fine if you can do it while keeping him in character. I just think it was way out of character, which is a pet peeve of mine. Maybe you can show me where it was in character that Jim would leave his wife for Karen? I just didn't see that kind of loyalty, devotion, love, whatever you want to call it.
Author's Response: First, thank you, thank you, thank you so much for leaving a negative review that was still respectful. You have no idea how much I appreciate your honesty and candor. I am sorry you didn't like my fic, though. I dunno, I guess to me, Jim's proven that he has a tendency to settle, and my goal was to address the restlessness that is inevitable when you settle. He thought he wanted Pam, but he realized that he had over-idealized her and it was in fact Karen that he loved. But being the settler (and simultaneously idealist) that he is, he would actually go through with it and leave Pam. I think he would try to keep whomever he truly loved in his life, whatever the context may be. But once married, I don't think he would actually leave his wife. He might really want to, but he could never carry through with it, because don't think he's one to break a commitment as serious as marriage. Hence, the chapter title and lyric: sometimes the hardest thing and the right thing are the same.

surprise ending there. gotta say, i hope things never end up this way.
Author's Response: Oh, me too. I'm a romantic, I swear. But sometimes, you just get bitten by the angst fairy and you've got no choice but to go with it!

Wow. Third grade level angst kills just as sharply as other angst. (which also could be third grade level for all I know.) Seriously, this was very well written and I didn't see the end coming.
Author's Response: Thanks for reviewing, kaystar! Yes, angst at any grade level can be brutal. Glad I gotcha with the ending!

:) I loved this - you got me! Well done, beautifully written, and wow, the punch at the end!
Author's Response: Thanks for the review, notatoy! I love me a punchy ending!

Woah, I did not expect that! Great job with the fooling and what not. Lol, what not.
Author's Response: Hehe.. Thanks! The prankster in me is pleased. ^_^

At first, I loved your story, Perfect song, nice and angsty. BUT KAREN?!?! Aughhh... :)
I love the Fray, my first songfic was "Look After You". So glad you chose this song, you really looked at the words and put it into a great context.
Author's Response: Thanks so much for the review! The Fray is seriously one of my most favoritest bands. I think I remember that songfic you wrote.. I'm pretty sure that after reading, I checked their myspace, listened to the song, and promptly bought their CD the next day! And I'm sorry, but I'm kinda glad it left you unsettled. Angst isn't angst if you walk away satisfied. I'm not a mean person, I swear!

hahaha, you got me. I was all for him leaving a wife and kids until the very end and then I did the unthinkable...I hated Jim Halpert just a tad. Wow I'm a horrible perosn. Well done - I love that song too and you worked your story around it really well. Oh, and I happen to love a 3rd grade level after textbooks all day!
Author's Response:
Yeah, go figure, because after the initial euphoria of the S3 finale, I started to feel really bad for Karen, and there were fleeting moments where I thought, "Wow, Jim's... kind of a duechbag." (Is that how you spell it? I don't know..) Thanks for reviewing and I'm glad you liked!

Nice, StarShine -- I like that for the first two sections, Jim could be with either of them. I don't usually like song!fic either, but this song fits very well, and could very well be something that would stick in his head, causing him to doubt himself + his relationship.
Author's Response: Thanks, nomadshan! I tried to make it as vague as possible which one he had ended up with, but I'm pretty sure it was easy to guess early on that this was not going to be a happy Jam ending.
