This story is wonderful! I love that you captured some of Rashida Jones genetic history but made it purely Karen. And wow you fleshed her out. I fall firmly in the "I like Karen but not for Jim" camp so this was a delight to see. She learned to respond "calm and vindictive when provoked" was a phrase of beauty AND truth about Karen. Well done!

I'm always anxious to read your stories, EL. You're so good at putting a unique spin on a situation, bringing up ideas that wouldn't normally come to mind and exploring situations and points of view that are out of the ordinary.
Author's Response: anxious, huh? i don't want to do that! i appreciate what you're saying, though. it's definitely something i strive to do, to fit a niche that no one has written about. of course, this does not include all the post-the job fic that i've written! but even then, i try to spin it. thank you for noticing and of course thank you for reading!

Wow, interesting idea. I'd never really thought of Karen's parents being inter-racial. Great job! You have a really good handle on her character.
Author's Response: well, this is the thing. i remember reading a blog, or some fic, that was disappointed that ms. rashida jones was playing someone italian. and it's awesome, because she's able to cross those lines, but the woman playing karen fillipelli is black & white, and would it be so bad if jim dated a non-white chick? it's an interesting exploration and it was something that's personal to me - always good in writing. i kind of love karen sometimes. i want to see more rashida!
