Well, I finally watched the movie, and freaking loved it, and so I watched it a few more times, and loved it even more, and now I adore the fact that you have brought two of the best things on film together.
And I get the references now, and I love Dwight as Inigo, and Packer as Humperdinck, and everything! Everything everything everything. It's amazing how you tied these two together because alone I don't think I would've seen any resemblances, but after reading The Paper Bride I can make all sorts of comparisons, and that is awesome.

So, I'm back to reading fics again after a looong hiatus of sort and I'm trying to catch up on what I've missed. I came across this one because you mentioned it in a reply to someones comment in another story of yours.. blah blah. So I had to look for it.
I have to say I honestly don't think I've read anything like this. It was so amazing, lol. I laughed so hard. And while I don't really like The Princess Bride *gasp*, this was fabulous.
And you sneaky, sneaky thing! The whole "H" on the cufflink thing had me thinking "Halpert" as I'm sure it did many others, I literally gasped when the granddaughter giggled at Kelly being at Ryans apartment yadda yadda. That killed me.
Anyway, great, wonderful, fantabulous job. I think I've just wrote the longest review in the history of reviews but still, it's so wonderful. *adds to favs*

Love how, when it's Dwight's turn to be in action, Ryan is refered to as The Temp.
Ryan's the narrator? Since I still don't know the original story, it surprised me. I'll have to go back to previous chapters to look for clues...
Author's Response: The book was "narrated" by the author, and the movie used a grandfather/grandson duo where I've used grandfather/granddaughter. The dialogue is very similar. In the movie, though, the story is complete fantasy - you don't ever get the impression that the grandfather was actually in the fairy tale, the way Ryan is here. But I wanted someone who had witnessed Jim/Pam to tell the story; I figured he could learn the bits he didn't know later, after they were friends, happily ever after.

What a delight, from start to finish. And I don't even remember the original movie, so this really stood on its own. Love when Dwight says 'Vengance is almost mine.' Perfect.
BTW, I don't know if you ever saw one of my older stories, 'The Visit' but there's a chapter in there called 'Do-over' in which Pam also asks Jim for the same thing, though in an entirely different set-up.

This is getting so crazy/fun/silly, and I'm still loving how closely you're sticking to the original.
Ryan in Miracle Max's role is NOT what I would have expected, but it worked so well, with his ailment being drunkenness rather than death! Hee.
And Ryan = narrator! Now I understand that "irony = I'm madly in love with your grandmother" comment from one of the early chapters - I just thought I was completely slow and ignorant before.
