This whole story has been a treat to read - and I have spent an embarassing amount of time over the past 36 hours or so reading it - but this chapter is really beautifully done.
These two lines in particular:
"...those memories flashing relentlessly again - not images of regret, those, but rather, moments that reverently ushered in the end of a ten year relationship, marked the demise of a dream - an illusion, she realized now - that this was the man she was meant to marry."
"Startling that there had never been jinxes or paper doves or exchanged looks that could've passed as entire conversations."
...do a beautiful job of communicating how it sort of slowly and inexorably dawned on Pam that Roy wansn't going to be her happily ever after.
I can't WAIT to read the rest!

This is definitely not too long for a couple who have been together for 10 years -- they do deserve a proper 'mourning' for their relationship. You have captured Roy really well -- and the comparison with Jim -- no jinxes, or paper doves -- just awesome.

Ugh....Happy New Year to us! TWO NEW CHAPTERS OF ONLY! yay! But ok...I'm already anxious for the rest. I just know that Jim is going to be exactly what she needs when she gets home to be with him. I LOVED the idea of her thinking of him throughout the whole chapter. The thread of Jim getting her through it. Send more please! :-)

This chapter was so great! You just describe exactly how I would picture her relationship with Roy, he's a good guy at heart...just not the guy. Agh...I hurt for him in this chapter.
I've just started reading all your stuff...and it has completely ruined several days of my Christmas break. But thats a compliment.

oh my GOD.
okay, I'm seriously bawling right now. it's a painful thing to see a strong man break down, and this is not an easy situation. I like that Pam is trying to be as fair as she can to Roy, even in her thoughts, and struggling not to lean on Jim for everything.
This chapter was absolutely heartbreaking (again).

I swear, whenever in a fic Roy figures out that it's Jim it just breaks. My. Heart. I got the exact same feeling in Away from the Cameras during that break up scene. I espeically like the ending to this one. Pam needs to know that Roy will be okay and you showed that beautifully.

Okay, this is just so...so sweet. i can't thank you enough for this little introspective, because I don't think that enough writers focus on why Pam was even with Roy in the first place and why she stayed with him for so long.
But I love that you've added another little dimension to it (whether intentional or not). Jim sounds like this Todd guy and Pam probably spent a lot of time denying what she and Jim had because of what happened with Todd. The parallel is a little eerie (at least to me).

Just got caught up with this and have to say, it's the gift that keeps on giving. Jim on the floor in jeans and t-shirt taking apart the vacuum - why do I find that so adorable (okay, so hot)? And the ring on the chain? And how much he adores her? And he's still her friend. Oh, it's all good.

And Jim's supportiveness when Pam goes to talk to Roy -- wow. Freaking amazing, that man. You actually have me looking forward to reading the conversation with Roy, even though it will be totally gut-wrenching.
Thanks for the quick updates and for all the care you are putting into this story. I'll keep reading if it goes to 100 chapters!

So much to love about this chapter - sex in the shower, Jim picking out the blouse, Kelly thinking Jim looked heartbroken, Michael thinking Pam was giving Jim the cold shoulder, Pam taking off her bra and dropping it on Jim's lap - and Michael handing out condoms! Great, great chapter!!

::sigh:: I don't think this man could be any more perfect if he tried. GREAT characterization here. That is such a Jim thing to say. ANd I have to say I also love that Pam didn't take him up on the offer to take off the ring, but instead wore it around her neck so that Roy wouldn't see it before she could tell him about it. I can't wait for the next chapter - her conversation with Roy and even more than that her seeing Jim afterwards. GREAT work!

Daggonit, I thought I had posted my review! Anyhow, I am so thrilled to see the reappearance of The Ring! And I suppose Pam & Jim will have to make up a proposal story to tell the grandkids since he's in his underwear (again, yay!) and she's in a blanket. Ahem.

It bugs me that Roy still thinks he's got a chance with you.
This is a great line for Jim. It describes Pam's way of doing things perfectly.
Ahhhh. The ring. I loved it. This was awesome; and I love Coldplay.
