I always wondered what Pam was thinking during her and Roy's dance. You know, because they're all smiley and happy but Roy was at least buzzed from all the snorkel shots and they'd JUST had that moment and there was no way that Pam didn't know what was going on there. This is definitely the closest to what I think went on in Pam's mind. You do such a great job fitting in how scared Pam is and how she just can't do that, but that she knows it's so messed up and she wishes she could fix it. Gah, this was great. You're like...a fountain of fanfiction greatness, or something.

Every time I read a new story from you I think, wow, that's her best yet. And then you write another and it becomes my new favorite. As does this one. I really enjoyed Pam's POV in this. Her jealousy acknowledged, her empathy for Jim, her realizing that no matter what she does, someone will get hurt. And my favorite line:

"I can feel myself sliding down a deep hole with nowhere to go, and the sunlight is becoming just a dim circle above me and I’m lost in a sea of my own tragedy."

This is lovely. It's so nice to read a story which depicts Pam's thoughts during that fateful voyage. I especially like this image: “There was always something about Jim that made me feel warm and comfortable inside. Something about him that was sweet and calm, like falling into a bed of cotton balls.” I can imagine Pam describing her feelings for Jim in this way.

And this is just so very sad - but I think, true: “So I pull my jacket on around me a bit tighter, tell him I’m cold, and I run inside so I don’t have to see that look in his eyes anymore. So I don’t have to acknowledge that there could be something better out there for me.”
