I really enjoyed this story! The whole premise was great, and I loved this universe where Jim and Pam were school friends. The way you used Katy and Roy here was sooo good, and I loved reading every bit of the weird relationship the four of them shared in the past and how close Jim and Pam were even when they were dating other people. I'd say I can't believe it took them so long to see how perfect they are together, but well. They are still Jim and Pam so, it was pretty in character, I guess.

Thank you for writing and sharing this story with us!

Lovely ending!

*And why are all the boxes so big and…presumptuous? He needs a box with one or two that says just in case for tonight, but no pressure either way. Is that so hard? Not a bulky eighty plus box that screams I WANT SEX WITH YOU ALL NIGHT AND THEN EVERY NIGHT. (Although, also, he wouldn’t object). *

This made me LOL.

Love that she got a little resolution with Roy, even though it interrupted sex. They've got plenty of time. :)

Author's Response:

Ah, thank you so much! Haha, I'm glad you enjoyed that part. And I feel like the only time I really liked Roy on the show was during their final breakup, so I did want to give them some resolution here too lol.

Thank you so much for reading, and for all your kind reviews - I really appreciate it! :)

I am so confused now about how I feel about Katy (maybe it's because I read the last three chapters back to back). It's still awful that she slept with Roy and then lived with him and Pam but I guess she really did regret it? I'm glad she put Jim out of his misery though by giving him an out. I guess he never learned from not terrible Louise.

That voicemail. Ugh. I can totally feel the pain Jim was feeling. At least he finally got it out.

So glad Jim fucked around with Danny. Hope he didn't get into too much trouble for it.

Can't wait to read the epilogue!

Author's Response:

Thank you so much! Yeah, I think in Katy’s mind she made a mistake that she did really regret - but she knew afterwards that she only liked Roy as a friend, so was sort of ok living with him…I definitely think Roy’s more at fault here though, lol. And I’d like to think Jim would eventually have got there haha, but Katy sped things up. Glad you enjoyed Jim fucking with Danny too, that was a lot of fun to write :D

Okay, you can forget everything I've said about Katy in the previous chapters. (And I was really praying that Jim wouldn't just cheat on her so I'm kinda glad they broke up) That was just brutal. I'm gonna have to be hard on Jim on this too. He had weeks to tell Pam, but chose not to. I really wished he realized he had to tell her at some point, and he should have just ripped the band aid out.

It's so heartbreaking to watch him beg and plead though. And the 'I can't reference'. I wonder how this will end?

Author's Response:

Haha - yes, Katy may have made a little mistake…hopefully she doesn’t come over as a total villain if you read on. And yeah, not Jim’s finest moment either. I have tried to keep the angst relatively minimal/short-lived though 😁 Thanks so much for reviewing!

Well, at least Pam didn't sleep with him. I was so close to thinking they were just gonna have sex and he wouldn't call her again. I wonder what caused Jim to say he's a dick.

I'm still glad that you're not portraying Katy to be a bitch. It's almost kind of amusing because she does mean well (Roy, on the other hand...what kind of a fiancee buys a two dollar bar of soap?). I'm kind of siding with her on this one because Jim seems to be all over the place when it comes to being honest.

I think Jim genuinely wanted the Danny thing to work out just so Pam could come out of her shell more. It must've broken his heart a bit that it didn't (feelings for Pam aside). Can't wait to read the rest!

Author's Response:

Thank you! Yeah, I always got the impression Katy was genuinely well-meaning (well, in that brief glimpse we saw of her on the show), even if she doesn’t quite get it. But I don’t think Jim’s conflict avoidance would really have helped in that relationship either, lol. Thanks so much for reading!

Well I'm glad you decided to give us an epilogue since this was a great ending and felt very real.

Running into an ex when you live nearby is inevitable and awkward and when it's Roy well, you nailed it. Of course it would get to Pam.

I'm glad you put the condoms thing in there, not only because it keeps it real but so we could get this line, “I wasn’t really getting shampoo, you dork.”

And even this whole runner I could see played out in a movie to great effect.

But it allowed for the last lines that I adored....

*But Pam’s in his arms, and he knows their third time (and the embarrassingly large box of condoms in his trunk) isn’t going anywhere.

And neither is he. *

Bravo- another terrific fic for the archive.

Author's Response:

Ah, thank you so much! Haha, I always felt like they must have had some awkward run-ins with Roy at some point, so this was a lot of fun to write - I’m really pleased you enjoyed it :) Thanks so much for reading, and for all your kind words!

Have a lot to catch up on. I love the story about Jim and not terrible Louise. As horrible as he led her on, that non-confrontational part about him is so relatable and I couldn't really blame him. The part about going down on her so he wouldn't see her face was just hilarious. And of course, Pam just had to walk in on them.

Ugh, Danny. So perfect you just want to punch him in the face Danny. And all because he forgot his wallet. A part of me almost wishes that Jim wouldn't help her but he's gonna be too good of a friend to leave her hanging out to dry.

Great job!

Author's Response:

Thanks so much! And haha, I wondered if the Louise thing was a bit far, but…I feel I could also see Jim doing something like that. And lol, the Danny in your fic is so nice that I felt a bit bad about making him into a tool here…you have made him much dreamier. Thank you so much for the review!

I can't believe I'm saying this, but bringing Roy made this epilogue only sweeter. It really feels like closure and the tiny discussion about 'we should've done this earlier' - I love it!
Also, I found the fact that they weren't able to take things slow adorable.
(Also, it's my personal headcanon that Pam's smarter than Jim, and it pleased me to find it here :)))
Thank you so much for writing! I'm looking forward to your next masterpieces!

Lol. The awkwardness of Jim figuring out how to buy condoms while shopping with Pam is delicious, long before Roy and Pam show up. This is classic canon-style cringe. And ugh, it's so very Roy to think that her starting to date Jim after they broke up somehow evens up him cheating on her while they were together. (Although I really appreciate you giving him enough consideration to genuinely apologize here.)

The dinner scene is very sweet. And I like what you've done here with this quiet moment of them contemplating their past - it's a different degree of missed chances than in some of your other stories, and it feels like you pitched it well.

Anyhow. Well worth the epilogue, and a great story as always. Can't wait to see what magic you've got cooked up for us next!

Author's Response:

Thanks very much! I am a big fan of the cringey supermarket run-in. Preferably in an embarrassing aisle. And yeah, I always go back and forth on just how awful to make Roy, but I have some sympathy for him maybe lashing out here because he’s a bit wounded. I’m really glad you liked that moment - I figured they could enjoy the what if a bit more without the years of angsty pining behind them, lol. Thank you so much, as ever, for reading and taking the time to give such lovely feedback!

Great way to wrap this one up. I like that they're quick to jump into a relationship with each other, but still taking their time taking things further till now. There's quite of bit of history between them so yeah, go easy.

That is until history rears it's big angry head. I was wondering if we'd ever actually see Roy. Seems he's still cut up about Pam leaving the relationship. To bad Roy, should have treated her better. REALLY like that Pam in no way lets him off the hook. It doesn't matter if the incident was years ago. It shouldn't have happened in the first place. Rock on Pam, let Roy have it.

Jim's mental gymnastics considering his purchase there was a lot of fun to read. He's still getting a it to much into his head about things with Pam and that comes across well. However I really like that he is more than willing to hit the brakes and follow her lead when they get back to her place.

Good job on Pam's purchase there too. Always good to be prepared. Though methinks that Jim's purchase will also be used as intended too.

Fun way to see this one out. Great job.

Fortes Fortuna Adiuvat

Author's Response:

Thanks so much! Yeah, it was interesting to think about how their relationship would go for this one, because they don’t have the years of angst from the show…but they’ve still got that transition from friends to more to deal with. Similarly with the Jim still getting a bit too much into his head. And haha, I felt like Roy deserved a goodbye since I gave Katy one. But yes, definitely not letting him off the hook! And preparedness is key 😏

This was a wonderful way to wrap this up. They have really started not only to be honest with each other but with themselves. The meeting between Roy, Jim (and Pam!) in front of the condoms was awkward, angry perfection. Nice to see Pam doesn't let it knock her back several steps.

Thanks for writing this epilogue, I wasn't ready to say goodbye to these characters. Also we would've missed out on "...a bulky eighty plus box that screams I WANT SEX WITH YOU ALL NIGHT AND THEN EVERY NIGHT."

As I read this I was yelling at Pam. Come on answer his texts. You love him. He loves you. He didn’t mean to hurt you by keeping this from you. He’s got to have his reasons.

However I can understand her needing to go though the motions of anger at all three players abd then go through her own introspection at what she might have done and what her feelings were.

You really had me there when she finally decided to send a text of her own but I loved what you did having her meet up with Katy. And it was a nice touch to make Katy and her still stay somewhat friends in the end. I do like that you did not make her out to be much of a mean girl.

The little more Jan, Kelly and Erin added to the fun but what was so satisfying was how you had Jim give it to Donny corduroy even before he knew Pam was there. That’s perfect Jim.

Loved the wrap up of this story. Tbh I don’t know how much longer I’d would be able to take of Pam in denial. It was a beautiful moment when she asked for his advice about him. Really loved that.

Of course always happy to get a little more happy jam by way of an epilogue.

However you go, as always the whole thing was so entertaining to read and played out in true romcom fashion. Well done.

Author's Response: Thanks so much! And ha, I wasn't sure how long to keep going with Pam, but: I figured it was more about her needing time to process the triple whammy of Roy cheating on her, her kissing Jim, and her being allowed to want him than just her being mad at Jim (and I don't think she handles sudden revelations from Jim all that well in the moment, lol). I'm glad you enjoyed the Katy conversation! I still feel bad for her from the show and sort of wanted to give her a proper ending. The Donny Corduroy was a lot of fun to write hehe (also, I genuinely thought that was his surname when I first watched the show). And thank you! I was trying to go for a romcom-y vibe, I feel like there's something about the radio that lends itself well to that, so really pleased you liked it :) Thank you so much for your review!

I genuinely don't know what moment is my most favorite. The tally of unanswered messages? Pam's racing thoughts and her 'I miss him'? Meeting with Katy, so awkward and so right? Jim's voice mail? Him roasting Danny on the air? Her coming to see him? The second closet kiss? Everything above?
I love the ending, it's perfect. But if you decide to add another chapter, I won't be opposite that :)
Thank you for this lovely journey, and I really wish I could give this story more jellybeans...

When I saw there was an update, the first thing I did was scan for "completed" and was relieved when I saw "no". So put me in the YES column for more chapters and/or an epilogue.

Pam meeting with Katy was a surprise but considering their long friendship the right thing to do. I smiled at the thought of Katy realizing during her hookup with Roy that there wasn't really anything between them. Suck it Roy! A lot of guilt for little return.

Big fan of Jim ragging on Danny & hopefully deflating his enormous ego on air.

The part about the difference holding hands now, something that is not new to them at all, being both strange and familiar was really nice.

Author's Response:

Ha, thanks so much! I am currently the process of writing the epilogue :D And lol, yes, I have limited sympathy for Roy in this scenario. I’m also always a fan of deflating Danny’s ego. Thank you so much for reading, and for your kind review, I’m really glad you enjoyed this!

If you’re worried about even chapter numbers, I say one more chapter with the date and then an epilogue! :DDD No but seriously this chapter was great, I loved Jim messing with Danny in exactly the way he deserves and how “the people of Scranton” deserving more than that became synonymous with Pam deserving to be treated better. Ahhh, it was so perfect and I’m glad they worked it out!! Them hiding from Wade was also precious and had me laughing out loud.

Yes to the epilogue! 10000% Yes to the epilogue.

Anyway, lots to kind of mull over here. I fully get why Pam would react the way she did. She needs time to process big huge news like that. Her thoughts are spinning in a million directions. She wants to run away but just about everything reminds her of the past. Past with Roy, past with Katy, and especially past with Jim. I also get why she'd go silent with Jim. It's a hard hit to her heart that's for sure.

I wasn't expecting the conversation with Katy at all. However I'm also very glad she was able to stick to her guns and get some answers. Really liked that she didn't back down from the fact that what Katy and Roy did was wrong and she wasn't going to let Katy forget about that. Doesn't matter if she and Roy were drunk or if there were no sparks or anything like that.

Kind of a slow return to Jim there. Listening to his voice mail ad nauseum makes sense now that she's really getting a handle on her true feelings for him. The feelings she's had for him for quite a while now that she's really being honest with herself. Really good use of the whole abscense makes the heart grow fonder kind of thing.

Loved Jim cutting down Danny at every possible opportunity. Saying his name wrong, highlighting that he has no awards, calling him out on his flaky tendencies and all the subtext behind that. The fact that Danny can't worm or charm his way out of that is great. Always fun to see him getting taken down multiple pegs.

And even better that it's the catalyst for Pam to seek Jim out. The description of Jim when he sees her was wonderful. Then the quick heart to heart and finally they're together. Even better because Pam is quick witted enough to back up Jim and it looks like he'll get away with bad mouthing someone on the air. They really are a great match for each other and that comes off brilliantly.

Then they're off for a date. Just like that. They've waited long enough so why wait any longer. Great image there.

Bit of a roller coaster with this one to be sure. The payoff was spectacular though. Really hope you gift us with that epilogue.

Author's Response:

Thank you so much! And haha, I am now currently in the process of writing an epilogue - thanks very much for your support :) I'm glad you enjoyed the Pam/Katy conversation - I felt like Pam sort of needed to speak to her for some level of closure. Oh, Pam desperately needs a hug here. You wrote her internal monologue as she spirals really well, and it hurts to read. (And the pairing with the glimpse through the voicemail at the inside of Jim's brain is nicely done.)

I love the use of the ensemble at the gallery here - Jan and Kelly would indeed be a force to be reckoned with. And Pam getting down into the details of how much she's counted on Jim to get through the bad times with Roy is beautiful: "And now she’s wondering how many times she’d done that, hidden against Jim to avoid seeing her fiancĂ© reaching for someone that wasn’t her" is quite the line.

I like what you've done with the Pam-Katy conversation and how it allows Pam to play the parallels in these mixed and tangled relationships out to their conclusion - and specifically in the difference between Katy's reaction to being with Roy and Pam's reaction to being with Jim.

Also, lol at Jim beating the crap out of Danny and in the exact form he probably resents most. A bit of cheer most don't get in dealing with a fuckboy.

I will never object to reading more from you, but honestly this does feel very complete like this. The two of them heading off into the sunset together after this adorable conversation. This was great and very charming.

Author's Response:

Oops, I'd only just finished responding to your other review when I spotted this one - thanks so much!! I'm glad you liked Pam's spiralling/internal monologue - I wanted a Jim who actually gave her time to process things, which felt a bit more plausible in a scenario where he hasn't been hopelessly pining after her for years/ just laid everything on the line.

And ha, I would personally love a Jan-Kelly team-up. I've sort of now decided that radio is the perfect career for Jim - ample pranking opportunity and the chance to hit people like Danny where it hurts.

Thank you so much, as ever, for reading, and for all your lovely feedback!
