I remember this, I think. It's so lovely. And this:

He nods. “Okay.”

There isn’t any sadness in the word though. It comes out flat and he’s still focusing on something in front of him.

It's what really happened, isn't it? It gave me shivers when I read it just now, because I can see it. Love this all so much.

Unfold! One of my favorites - just gorgeous. I especially love their hours on the playground - such truth there. Love your spare language and imagery. I remember the first time I read this, I cheered at this:

And she does. She tells him all of this even though the trembling in her voice conquers her words in some places and they come out as tears or fragments.

This was so beautiful. It made me cry more than once. I love the ending, and this also was one of my favorite parts:

(He would tell her, if the words would come, that he liked feeling her body against his in that moment. Because the inward curve of her hips matched his own contours perfectly. And he had always liked the idea of people being jigsaw puzzle pieces. He liked being put together. He liked the idea of filling in someone’s missing parts and them filling in yours. He liked feeling filled in for once.)

I don't know what it was about this story, but it had this beautiful build up that literally had me tearing up the whole story then finally actually crying a little at the end. Amazing.
