tidying up his coat collar as only a mother could. I loved this image of Jim's mom fussing over him a bit. It makes it easier to believe that he doesn't look so broken these days if he has his mother to rely on.
"Her adorable middle child". Oh yeah! .... off to read the next chapter!
Author's Response:
There's a reason Jim prefers to date Moms..... ;-)

I ADORE Larissa!!! And Pam certainly does have sparkle -- a great observation. I cannot wait for Thanksgiving!! This is awesome!
Author's Response: Yay - thanks for all the !!!!s - they inspire me to get moving on the Thanksgiving day chapter!

I think that probably some people might think that Laryssa was a bit intrusive in the way that she handled the situation, but I can honestly see myself doing something like that if I had the same relationship with one of my kids that she has with Jim. Based on what you wrote, I doubt she has really ever interfered to this level before, but she knew what she was doing, and seemed to sort of know that he probably wouldn't kill her for this. It's not out of the realm of possibility for a parent , (imho a mom) to do this.
I like how he ran into her arms in the kitchen. Very sweet. I am also intrigued at how Thanksgiving will play out, because she has hit the nail on the head with the similiarities between Jim and Pam. Can't wait for the update.
Author's Response:
Yeah, Larissa has definitely been a "I trust my kids to work out their issues" kind of mom, being there to listen/advise, etc - but not doing the dirty work. I think (hope!) I left enough clues that showed she knew what she was doing wasn't something she was entirely comfortable with, but she just couldn't stand to sit back and watch her son be so miserable. Not when there was something she could do to help. (At least she thought she had greater chance of helping than hurting!)
Had Larissa not immediately liked Pam (and really, who wouldn't?) I don't think she would have invited her over. Like she said to Jim in the parking lot, she was amazed how quickly Pam won her over, given that she's on Jim's side!
And while I know I would freak if MYmom ever tried a stunt like that, my mom is also in no way as cool as Jim's mom. (No offense to my mom.) We just don't have that kind of relationship. But like you said - Jim and Larissa are close (but not in a creepy way!), and in that position I would have done the same thing, too. Parents do all sorts of crazy things for their kids' happiness, don't they?
Onward to Thanksgiving - thanks for the review!!

Oohh, I loved this chapter, too. And I love Jim's mom. hehe.
Author's Response: Thanks - I really think she'd be a cool person "IRL" ;-)

Gooooooooooooooo Larissa!!! And YAY Pam. You go get him. Oh I can't wait for Thanksgiving!!
LOVE. THIS.
Author's Response: I do seem to be stuck on that damn holiday, don't I?? :-) Thanks for reading along....

Author's Response: Thanks - it was a fine line between helpful & pushy!

You need to write more! I love your writing style.
Author's Response: Thanks so much - I'm sure some people probably think I write too much! ;-)

Sela as Larissa? Very interesting. As a once rabid Once & Again fan that defintely makes me happy to imagine the two of them on screen together.
I can't wait to see what else you have in store. You have more...right?
Author's Response: Oh yes, I have more.... [insert evil laugh here...] :-) Glad you like it! I just think Sela is the ultimate cool mom/beautiful woman.

I love how you wrote Jim's mom. She sounds great.
Author's Response:
Thanks - I thought it was time we give her some coverage :-)

This is an amazing portrait of Larissa.
Author's Response: Thanks - I want to make her believable, but clearly a strong woman who's influenced Jim a lot.

Another mom weighing in here...love this perspective. I can so feel where she's coming from - I did a short thing (drabble) where Jim's mom can't believe anyone would reject her beautiful boy...so this really touched a nerve for me too. And of course he's the middle child (middle child here too!) Makes total sense. (Sela Ward, huh? Interesting.)
Author's Response:
I thought the moms of this group might appreciate this fic a little more than most. It's a nice change to write about Jim from a protective loving frame of reference, as opposed to the hot and steamy kind..... ;-D
I'll have to go back and re-read your drabble!

You've heard of "Take your daughter to work day", right? How about a "Take your Mom to work day" ! Seriously, loved the beginning of this and can't wait for the next update.
Author's Response: Thanks, kaystar! I believe we will be finding Larissa stopping in at Dunder Mifflin in the next chapter....

Wow. You know, on the Jim thread (at TWoP), there's been a lot of discussion about how little we know about Jim, and I tell you, you've very realistically filled in the blanks here. I can completely see him as a middle child between two overachieving siblings (BTW: Jonathan - yay!), with a father who pushes him, a mother who really understands him well. This is one of those fics that I wish GD and Co. would just make happen on the show.
As always, this is just terrific, Moxie - can't wait for your updates!
Author's Response:
Thanks so much - you are too kind! I do remember reading the Jim thread and I agree completely - it would be a little easier if they just filled in a FEW details, wouldn't it? That's the one thing I did like about LOST - the flashbacks that gave the character more depth. We seriously need those. ;-)

As a mom, this story really spoke to me. We have seen other stories from Pam's mom's POV, but this is, in my memory anyway, the first from Jim's mom. I love how you described how she loved all her children equally, but differently. That is the truth. I love how Jim is so close to his mom. I love how she wants to whup Pam's ass (okay, that's the KY mom in me coming out there). But I have had all those feelings. This is so great, and I can't wait for you to update. I'm favoriting it right now.

As a mom, thi
Author's Response: Thanks - can you tell I'm a mom, too?? ;-) But don't worry, I know her irritation with Pam is completely justified in her mind (and to mine too), but she'll see the complete picture eventually....

I'M A MEDIA STUDIES MAJOR!!! AH!!!
I didn't know anyone else had ever even heard of it?!?!? You win in my eyes. Forever!
Author's Response: hahaha! I love it. :-) See - you do not toil invisibly!

Larissa is awesome! And it is so perfect that Jim is a middle child. Cannot wait to see what Sela-Larissa has up her sleeve.
Author's Response: Thanks! Here's hoping she can help without being too heavy-handed! (though sometimes that's what those two need!)
