I've read this before, possibly a couple of times, and it's always still good. Gah pretty much sums up all I can say about it.

I think I've said this before, already, but it's odd that being in love with the same person brings them closer together defines Pam and Karen in a way that most people don't really get across, but you know this is a brilliant fic, so, uh, that's it for that, but
I finally got my hands on Wincing the Night Away [because I'm law-abiding - actually, no, not really, I just didn't get it sooner.] and I fell in love with Australia, easily my favourite track, and I love that that's where you got the title from.
Yeah I'm done.

did you know when you wrote this that there would be a line in the new song "australia" by the shins (off new album, out just today...) that is:
"you don't know how long i've been, watching the latern dim, starved of oxygen...so give me your hand and let's jump out the window"
did you? just curious.(even better is that the song after this one is called "Pam Berry"!)
good song too. and sweet story. i'm glad it prompted me to come back and read it.
Author's Response: Yeah, I actually have had the new album for a little while now. Heh. And Australia was immediately my favorite song and thus I titled fic after it. I absolutely love the new album. It's amazing.
Thanks for reading. :)

I love this. The Pam/Karen dimension is something that's pretty new to me but I absolutely love it -- I think there's something so heartbreaking about being in love with the same person and the way it connects you to your "competition" (for lack of a better word). You've written this just beautifully, showing us so clearly the way Pam and Karen feel about each other. It's a nice change from having two generic girls fighting over one generic guy -- this, I think, is something that happens more than you might expect.
Anyway, I'm rambling about this because I just finished working on a Pam/Karen piece and I'm feeling thoughtful about it. About your story I'd like to comment that the tone you always bring forward is just fabulous -- it's quiet and contemplative and really just about the connections these characters all have with each other. And you bring this all forward with so much subtlety... I think it demonstrates what a great hold you have on all the characters.
This is just wonderful. Thank you so much. :)

I just saw this because the first time I saw it I hadn't watched the episode yet and afterwards I guess I just forgot - I was doing random things, though, and I found this, and well - wow. I love that they could be so close even though they're in love with the same person, without getting slashy, and - I really like both of them, as much as I don't like going around admitting I love Karen, and to put them both on the same side even with them knowing about each other, it's just - wow, because I never thought of the situation playing out this way, and it just fits, perfect.
I babble when I find something absolutely amazing, so - I'm sorry. I realise that first part of my review was just a sentence. oO Good Lord.
I'm going to read this again because I adore this to bits.

I find the Pam/Karen chemistry to be so interesting. They really do make a good team, and Jim sort of mucked up the works with everyone, didn't he? He's like the glue of so many things and the undoing of so many other things in the office. It's an interesting thing about him. I see that you marked this as completed, but I'll be honest: I'd love to read more in this universe. Do Pam and Karen remain friends? Does their chemistry push them farther? Does Karen break up with Jim? Does he break up with her? Do Pam and Jim get togther? There's still so many questions about where things stand with all of them here. I really liked it, though ... it seemed very realistic given the events of ABC. Nice work.

I think you've captured them both, and that awesome energy Benihana they had. I love the way you're skating the edge of slash- it's intriguing. I'd love to see it continue, in either or both directions.

I love this! I love that they can talk about him. I love that they can somehow simultaneously totally awkward and completely comfortable with each other.

This was very touching. The situation you describe could just as easily gone in the other direction, but your Karen was just so mature. I love the fact that being in love (if Karen is indeed in love) with the same guy can build their friendship.
