Nice story.  I especially like the line about everyone knows it was her fault, so why didn't she know.

This story fills a gap we desperately needed filled, and you did a beautiful job of it.  Just excellent.

This is heart wrenching and beautiful. Love these lines:

"They all seem to know it's her fault, and she wonders why she didn't know until it was too late."

"There was something missing, and it had always been missing. Now she knows exactly what."

"...and she doesn't know how she's going to upend what amounts to almost half her life just because a shaggy-haired boy with the most beautiful eyes she has ever seen said he loves her."

Those were just so perfect and I think really got across what Pam was going through. How she made herself blind to all of this and that it wasn't something she could decide in the few minutes Jim gave her. Loved it!

Author's Response:

Thank you! :) I'm glad it came out the way I wanted it. I really don't think she saw clearly what was going on until it was too late, and then we were all in a mess.

I'm glad you enjoyed it.

Love the parallel phrasing: "not there" in your story and "not here" in "The Job".
Nice job capturing Pam's thoughts here. And, by the way, there's no such thing as watching too much Season 2!

Author's Response:

Thank you! The use of the "not there" parallel was totally intentional - after the fact. I realized I'd done it when I was halfway finished. That Jim, he just seeps into your brain. He says that in "Dwight's Speech", too, when he's planning his trip.

I agree there's no such thing as too much season 2. But the angst will eat your brain. lol

The dread pulls and twists at her stomach day and night, and she doesn’t know how she’s going to upend what amounts to almost half her life just because a shaggy-haired boy with the most beautiful eyes she has ever seen said he loves her.

That's a beautiful line. Very nice job!

Author's Response: Thank you so much. I have to admit to liking that line myself, and I'm my own worst critic. ;)

And Fancy New Beesly is born! This captures Pam's anguish so beautifully and simply. I love it very  much.
