Wow! Good for Pam. I was expecting the usual "get them together somehow" ending, but you threw a curve. Very realistic throughout and I've enjoyed reading every word. Thanks!

Author's Response: Thank you so much for reading and reviewing! I'm glad you liked it.

A fantastic ending to this story,DM, and a bold place to end it, if I may say so. Most other writers would have used this phone conversation as a springboard to something else, some grand act of bravery on Pam's part where she tells Jim exactly how she feels and he comes back and they ride off into the sunset together.

Instead, you've chosen to point out something that I think most of us overlook during this scene: namely, that neither one of them ever really expected to see each other again, and that it very well could have been their last conversation ever. And, even though we all know that's not what happened, I applaud you for being brave enough to suggest that if it hadn't happened, that it would be okay. :)

Great job all around, my friend.

Author's Response:

Thanks! I didn't want to take it further, I didn't want to delve into their relationship. I didn't even want to acknowledge the text that was sent during Diwali. I wanted it to feel realistic to life and to the story line that happened during S3. I like how it ended too, it was probably anti-climactic after 11 months of waiting but it felt realistic.

I'm so glad you stuck it out with me, it's been nice to at least keep a few loyal readers.

I'm so glad to see this story back. I really think it's one of the strongest things you've ever written, and really showcases your ability to get inside Pam's thoughts. I especially liked how you showed Pam's nervousness and anxiety about going on a date, but coupled that with the excitement of "spreading her wings" and "loving every second of it." I totally believe that about S3 Pam. It must have been scary for her, but thrilling as well.

Great work!

Author's Response: Thank you, I was glad to see it back too. These last two chapters  probably would've turned out completely different a year ago. Because of where I am I can see it a little clearer and believe that that's truly how she was feeling at the time.

The reaction from the people at DM was very amusing, especially that sneaky Phyllis. The relationship you created between Pam and her momo is one filled w/ kindness and understanding. You can see where Pam get her kindess.

Author's Response:

Your reviews are making me want to go back through this entire thing and re-read (and edit). :)

It's been almost a year since I started this fic, geesh I'm slacking.

Pam's anger and frustration w/ Jim is a nice refreshing approach. I like how you haven't made her to be a "victim." The scream in the truck is such an honest raw reaction to her situation.

The directness and abruptness of Jim was Pam seems like such a natural reaction ("No, not now." His voice showed his obvious exhaustion.) Another example of how these two lack in the communication area.

Great job. Pam's anxiousness and nervousness is very apparent in this chapter.

I think the character descriptions are insightful and thoughtfully written. Also I like the dramatic mood you set around the desk and the kiss.

I love this line: She lost her breath, and was also losing her friend. I think that Pam knew right then and there that after Jim's confession that nothing would ever be the same.

Author's Response: Thanks Alamos! I was trying to draw the reader into Pam's emotions and feel them as she would have.

An Update!! Yay! I've had this saved to favorites since I discovered it last February! I loved the interaction between Pam and her mom. Please update again soon.

Author's Response: Thanks! Sorry it's taken me so long to get the updates going. I've been hit with a bit of writer's block but I think I've freed it up. So hopefully I'll have another on in the next week.

I liked Pam's conversation with her mom.  I felt it was very realistic and haven't read any other stories present it quite this way.  That plaintive "What did he expect of me, mom?" is just what I think Pam would've felt.

And this progression was very nice too:

I didn't know, he never told me before. Well, maybe I knew. I don't know what I knew. I had felt it…

Author's Response: Thank you! It's nice to hear that it felt realistic. I always imagine Pam only being able to really talk about things with her mother. Roy's so oblivious to everything Pam related and of course she couldn't say anything to Jim. I just figure she rambles when given the chance to discuss what's going on in her head.

Ohhh mannnn.... please update again soon. *pleading* This is SO good. I hate scrolling down, knowing I'm coming closer and closer to the end of a chapter like this one. So much emotion - it was gut-wrenching. It made me mad at both of them at the end to see how they handled their confrontation, but it was so realistic of their characters. You've done a great job.

Author's Response: Wow thank you! I'm glad to see that I'm keeping it realistic and I'm happy to know people are enjoying it. Thanks so much for your review it's nice to hear back from the readers.

Great chapter and story.  I remember reading it in the fall and am so glad you updated!  You've focused on Pam's emotions in such detail which makes it seem like we're right there with her.  Can't wait for more.

Author's Response: OMG how did I miss your review? Thanks so much for the kind words. I'm hoping to update more often than every 4 months. :) Actually there should be another chapter any minute now.

Awww... Poor Pam! Is it wrong that I just want to give her a hug? (Well, considering that I usually want to do that anyway.. ;P)

Seriously, though, you've done a nice job in this chapter in showing the borderline panic she must've felt when she found out he was gone and not coming back. Look forward to more!

Author's Response:

Thank you my devoted reader. :)

You can hug her, at this point I don't think she'd mind.

Yeah, can we not wait another four months? ;P

One of my favorite Snow Patrol songs. A sad song and a sad chapter. Poor Pam. She should have stopped him from walking out the door.

Author's Response: Yes she should have! I hope you liked it! I'm not sure when I'll get to update but hopefully soon.

DM - You have such a way with words, and are such an amazing writer. I don't think there is anything that you can't do if you put your mind to it! The way you can put all these emotions into words, and really look into your self for these feelings is awesome. I feel while reading these, I can feel what the characters are feeling...and what you are feeling. :o)

Author's Response: Thanks D ;). You know where I draw the feelings from so now you can see it through my words. Crazy stuff going on in my head huh?

Guh, so I realized I'm a terrible terrible person and never got back to you on this chapter :( I am so so sorry.  Blame life and it's wacky ability to completely spin out of control.  Again, I apologize profusely and hope that I can still beta for you!

P.S.  This was great.  So many heart breaking images; Pam needing to take pills to sleep at night?  So sad.  Love what you've done here and can't wait to read more!

Author's Response:

Don't worry about it! CM was online yesterday and I just asked him to sneak in. I was struggling with tense issues and had talked to him about it so it's all good. :)  I will be working on chapter 3 soon so you'll definitely get a crack at that one.

Thanks for the glorious review!

DM, this story is so achingly wonderful. Really, there's so many amazing images and emotions here. I love the way Pam's tears and the water from her shower are mixing together. Such a great way to describe the mixed up emotions she's feeling at that moment. Great job!

Author's Response: Thank you mister beta man! It's really hard to write and still end up being in a good mood but that's your job, to cheer me up, and you do an excellent job of it.

I'll never get tired of CN stories, especially when they are as well written as this is!   You wrote with such a depth of emotions that I felt the sadness all over again. Great take on both Jim and Pam's thoughts.  I couldn't help but chuckle over Angela's  "Will this affect your work performance?"

Author's Response: Yep Angela is so predictable, that's why we love her. I'm so glad you liked it, I will be working on chapter 2 this evening!

I loved that Jim asked Angela to give Pam a ride home! Sigh. It's been way more than a year later and Casino Night still can pack such a punch. Great job and I look forward to reading more :-)

Author's Response: Thanks sudz! I'm pretty sure that that portion of the story wasn't a huge stretch, I would think our boy Jim is still a gentleman even when crushed emotionally.
