I found this thanks to the recommendation thread.

It's my lucky day. Beautiful, poignant, it felt so very real. Your writing from Jim's POV was flawless.

Thanks, and you owe me a tissue or two.

*sniff honk*

This story is just so wonderful. I see hundreds of reviews, very well deserved, and don't know what I add, but it brought a tear to my eye and really moved me. Thank you so much for writing and sharing it.

So lovely! I've been reading and enjoying stories on this site for awhile now, but yours is the most lyrical and true to the characters (both those we know as well as the newly introduced ones) I've read. Beautiful, poignant story and fine writing!

I'm a complete unknown to this forum, just found it today via twop recs and have been reading various rec'd fics off and on all day... All of which are serious handicaps to you taking seriously my unabashed sucking up to your story!

I, too, created an account *just* to be able to leave a review. I've read fanfic for a lo-o-o-ng time and I've managed to find *something* positive in most of them with varying degrees of effort.

Enjoying yours was effortless. The characterizations were flawless, the insights penetrating, and the turns of phrase a refreshing study in "how TO do fanfiction -- heck, fiction, period.

Wow. Just...wow.

Ooh, first person!  Nice.  This piece was highly recommended by nqllisi.  Definitely off to a great start.  Love the character you've given to Pam's dad.  And of course I love her mom's name (I'm not biased because it's my own, nope, not at all).  :-)

Ooh. Wow. But Jim's there with her, and for her...and it'll be OK. Your style is lovely- sparse and precise, with just enough to set the scene and let us know who these people are and why they are gathered. Gorgeous.

This story is lovely. I love that it's from Jim's point of view and I think your characterization is spot on. That ending had me in tears. It was beautiful.

Author's Response: Thank you so much AllysonB.  I'm glad you enjoyed it, and what a nice thing to say about the characterizations!!!

So, I know I'm late to the review party, but I had to give this story a few days to sit in my head so I could articulate what I loved about it rather than just saying AMAAAAZING!  (Though that is also true.)

So, here goes:  I think you did such a great job of making everybody in this story human and three dimensional, especially Jim.  He's not perfect -- he feels jealousy and insecurity and uncertainty just like everybody else, but he's doing the best he can.  Watching him put aside his own feelings so he can be there for Pam and her family was so touching.  Being a good person doesn't mean being impervious to mortal flaws, it means you do what you think is right even when it's hard.  And I think you captured that so well here.

Scenes that stood out to me: Pam crying on Jim after reading his letter, and Jim and Pam's father's conversation at the end.  Just, so good.

So... I loved it, can you tell? :)

Author's Response: I do not have a problem with late reviews! lol. Thank you so so much thirtypercent for such thoughtfulness.  I'm a big fan of the non-perfect side of Jim.  I find Jim to be perfect BECAUSE he's so flawed at times.  Because even though he can be a bit impatient, I think it's the fact that you KNOW he will totally end up doing the right thing...that's what draws me to him.  Along with of course that humor.  Thanks so much again for the wonderful review.

THis is the most beautiful heartbreaking story I have read in a LONG time.  I'm seriously crying my heart out here.  The way you wrote Jim was awesome... sooo him.  It's nice to get a story from his point of view.

Thank you

me

Author's Response: Luchy thank you! I'm so happy this was such a fulfilling read for you. It was certainly fulfilling for me to write. Thank you!

Seriously. How do you DO that? This is Jim all the way, you captured him perfectly. I actually imagined him throughout the entire story; not once was I taken out of it by anything non-Jim. Amazing.

The ending was just dramatically perfect, and yet so real life and RIGHT, too. These are conversations I can completely imagine happening in the family down the street....or my very own family.

You are extremely talented. I know everyone else around here knows that, but I'm new in these parts and just have to gush. Sorry. **blush**

Author's Response: Well let me be the first to welcome you to the neighborhood Recorderalways! What an awesome review!  I think the highest compliment any fanfic writer can be given is that the reader was never taken out of the moment by something out of character or just off...that's so so great to hear.  Hope you stick around! :-)

Man, that was just so touching.  The way Frank died so peacefully and the family got to be with him.  This is one story for the ages.  Thank you SO much for this wonderful story.

Author's Response: aw thank you so much. That's so very kind of you to say. You're so awesome. So encouraging...thank you.

Thank goodness you didn't finish this last week when I was PMSing or I'd be a blubbering mess at my desk right now. Wonderful work.

Author's Response: Oh man...well it's a good thing I didn't wait to write this until next week -- it would have been even MORE angsty...lolol. I hadn't thought of that! Thanks so much for the feedback Andys_Gal!

Grown women should not be blubbering messes at their desks during work hours. This was an amazing holiday treat. Well Done.

Author's Response: hehehe, I've been blubbering at my desk due to stress before, so I figure it's ok to do it because you're reading something you're into! hehehe. THanks so much for the feedback Macolly...:::here's a tissue::  :-)

OK.. so, wow.  With this story you've prompted me to do something I've never done before... leave a detailed review...

Thanks so much for this little work of art - it was amazing through and through... I can't express enough how much I love your characterization of Jim and Frank and I loved Roy's explanation for why he belonged there... it made me so .. just wow... yeah, no words...

My fav bits from your final chapter?  Frank... he was awesome...

"That's my bacon...I said go eat something, I didn't say to eat my bacon." Loved that he was ornery

"Really? Come on...you haven't called me sir...ever. Why start now? Respect for the dead?"  I smorted at this... What an amazing mix of nervousness and fear and grief and reality and laughter...

Finally... His eyes found mine. "She paints more now."
What an amazing example of 'man-talk'... loved it...

And my absolute favorite bit????  The beauty of this line:

And without fanfare...and just a little drama, I moved into the next phase of mine.

Thank you soooo much....

Author's Response: I'll tell you what, there is nothing better than a detailed review like this....you are gonna spoil me with this! lol. Thank you so, so much.  I have to tell you my favorite dynamic  to write about was that of Frank and Roy. Even though they really never had much dialogue together until the end...I was trying to draw a parallel with what kinds of people they were and how they handled situations (like stressful ones) in much the same way. Thank you, so so so much for such a great detailed review. I love that!

It's like, completely, utterly, borderline unfair how perfect your Jim in, especially in all his imperfections (that makes more sense in my head than it does here).  This chapter just made me weepy.

Author's Response: No, that absolutely makes sense VelvetMorning. I think that's totally what makes Jim perfect...is all his utter imperfections wrapped up in such a sweet and funny package. I'm glad you think of him the same way. You're right...it's totally unfair. I want to be Pam! Thanks for the review!

Well I don't cry too often with stories but this one got me.  Pam saying promise me you'll go first was too much.  The letter was perfect.  In fact this whole story is perfect.

Author's Response: You are TOO KIND. Thank you so much for just so much encouragement.

I waited for when Pam would go to Jim and let him help her, but, WOW, you made it so much better than I could imagine. That was an amazing letter Jim wrote Pam, and so heart wrenching whe she asked to go first. What a beautiful job you did with this chapter.

Author's Response: Thank you so so so much. So great of you to be such a loyal reader and reviewer.

That was so great.  I loved the whole Roy/Jim talk.  It was perfect and so true.  I can see how Roy would be feeling the loss too.  Can't wait for more.

Author's Response: Hope you enjoyed the wrap-up!!! Thank so, so much for the review!

This is really really good, lovefool - I love that it's from Jim's POV.  Poor guy.  I hope Pam cuts him some slack soon.  ;)

And Roy being there?  painful.  and awesome.  and I hope we start to see what Frank really thinks of him, because something tells me he's okay with Jim being the new guy.

Author's Response: Hi Moxie!!! Thanks so much for the review. I hope you enjoyed Jim's time with Frank...that was absolutely one of my favorite parts to write.  My idea from the beginning was to have Frank and Jim actually be very very similar in many ways. So glad they got to bond!
