Lol - that was so perfect. I loved Laura's explanation and Pam's 'daddy spoiling-time' line. So cute. And the fact that Heike was a SCHRUTE - oh-so perfect. What a lovely, hilarious story. Great job!

I love that Dwight and Angela named their child "Heike". That's just...priceless. In the words of Kevin? Niiiiiice. (;

Author's Response:

It's a good (although not very common) German name, pronounced "Hike-ah."  Let's just say I knew a Heike once.  So I wanted to come up with something a bit odd, and with the Amland (Amish) background...  Heike was a fun fit.  Wouldn't Urkelgrue have been funny, too? :)  But Urkelgrue isn't a real name, as far as I know, so I went with believable but odd.  ("Mose"' for example -- believable but odd.)

Hey, cool.  I just found out from wikipedia (best thing ever) that Heike is also a Japanese clan name.  That is priceless for Dwight's kid.  Er... I mean... I knew all along about that Japanese connection... that's how smart I am. ;)

Thats how I get my haircut - Locks of Love! Free haircut all the way - plus the added bonus of doing something good with it! Really, its win win win (the third win is the shorter hair which makes everything better)

Pam - seriously - daddy spoiling me is the best time ever.

"Heike Schrute!!" AND HER DAD!
This got even more awesome!

Author's Response:

That's cool that it's free for grownups, too!  Do you get your picture in the local paper? ;)  It's definitely a win/win/win.

Kids figure out pretty quickly that moms are for business, and dads are for fun (and spoiling).  I'm sure it's not like that in every household, but it's pretty common, and I think Jim would be a fun dad. :)

I'm glad you liked my silly bit of kidfic.  I couldn't resist throwing a little monkey wrench into the sweetness by adding the Schrute family.  Laura Halpert and Heike Schrute, best friends 4eva!

Thanks for reading and reviewing, EmilyHalpert!

Kev, this made me smile! Not only does it take place on my 40th birthday (yikes) but it TOTALLY fulfills my jones for Schrute/Halpert 2nd generation best friends! I love writing them and reading them, this made me very happy. Fine work!

Author's Response:

Isn't it fun to think of the Halpert/Schrute BFFs?  Holding hands, skipping down the sidewalk, with the parents following behind thinking "how did this happen?" ;)

I'll be nearing 60 (hopefully) when this one takes place, so... I see your yikes and raise you a yowza. ;)

I'm glad you liked this, and thank you for my Stanley Dundie.  (Was that intentional?  I enjoyed it regardless of intent.)  Thanks so much for reading and reviewing, McGigi

"What?" Pam hung up the phone immediately and looked at her daughter. "Laura, I'm sure Daddy would love to spend the day with you tomorrow. But I don't think he's going to want to include Heike Schrute and her dad."

LOL!!! That totally got me!!!

I'm actually growing my hair out right now for Locks of Love.  Almost there.  :)

This was a fun little story.

Author's Response:

Ha!  I'm glad I surprised you with the 'reveal' at the end.

The whole Locks of Love thing may have come from personal experience from Pam's side of things. ;)  It's neat that you're doing that.

Thanks so much for reading and reviewing, BJB! :)

I love the name "Heike" - so cute!  And how sweet that Laura obviously has her dad wrapped around her little finger!  And the "new pet graveyard" was so funny!

Author's Response:

Heike's a real German name, pronounced HIGH-kah.  I wanted to give her a similar name to Dwight's cousin Heindl.  The name was a little bit of a hint of the 'reveal' at the end, as were the little blond girls and the mother who likes a good value. ;)

You know that Jim will be crazy about his kids and happy to take them out and spoil them silly.  The new pet graveyard -- man, you can write anything about the Schrutes!  Nothing compares to 'beet wine' and Mose having nightmares since 'the storm,' and all sorts of things we've seen on the show. :)  Schrutes are fun to write about.

So cute! I just love your holiday stories! Do we get one for Presidents day??

Author's Response:

President's Day is up now!  I'm off to Scottsdale for a week, so I had to post it early.  That's okay, though, because it's actually set 'today,' Friday, instead of on Monday.  It's not anything like the last 2 holiday stories, but hopefully you'll still like it!

I'm glad you liked this one!  Thanks so much for reading and reviewing, hues8.

Aww that was so cute! I love how Laura clings to her dad, wanting him to take her for her haircut. And Heike is a Schrute!! Heehee! =)

Author's Response:

Ha!  It's not that she clings to dad, it's that she knows dad will spoil her rotten! ;)  Dwight has a cousin Heindl, and I sort of thought it would be fun to give a Dwangela kid a similar name.  Heike is an actual German name.

Thanks so much for reading and reviewing, FinerThings! :)

That was all kinds of adorable, and cute, and funny, and I loved every bit of it.

Author's Response: Thanks, Keds!  It's definitely a 'certain kind' of story, and not everyone's cup of tea, but I'm so glad you loved it.  Thanks so much for reading and reviewing -- I really appreciate it. :)

The new graveyard? Who is buried there? The questions, they haunt me! I love that the Halperts and the Schrutes ares still so entangled.

Author's Response:

Ha!  It's the new pet graveyard.  Hopefully, Dwight has learned not to mercy-kill Angela's pets, but she's bound to still have pets, so I imagine there's a need on Schrute Farms for a pet graveyard.

It's fun to imagine that Jim and Pam's child and Dwight and Angela's child are BFFs.  It would be fitting, in a way, and riotous to see the parents have to deal with each other.  (Would Pam let Laura stay over at Schrute Farms?  Would Angela want Heike to stay at Chez Halpert?  Yikes!)

Thanks so much for reading and reviewing, lis! :)

I was wondering who Heike was.  Mystery solved.

But I think a Dwim double date on Valentine's Day would be extra awesome.

Author's Response:

Heike was named sort of after cousin Heindl, just as Laura was sort of named after Larissa.  I think a Dwim double date would be double-dreadful for Jim. ;)
