This is a remarkable start- your first ever? Really? You really convey Pam and the dilemma she's in perfectly.
Two lines in particular really jumped out at me:
She didn't have to lie awake examining her own broken heart in the middle of the night if she just stayed angry. This is SO insightful. Really amazing. And...
...but she did keep it. And she remembered it was there. Of course she did. Wow. Please keep going!

Yes, I'm new to this, but I just love the characters so much that I think it really helps me channel them.
I'm working on Chapter 2, and hope to have it up in the next day or so. I have a resolution in sight, but no idea how long it's going to take to get there. :-)
